I'll be putting up a pool as soon as I can (after release of course).

After the coin is released, check out http://yum.baconpool.com

Also, reserved...

Holy hell that was fast! Awesome!
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CACH] CACHeCoin released on: January 06, 2014, 02:11:15 AM
Yeah, ok I get it now, thanks. Well, I don't want to mine with my CPU Tongue. Can anyone get a pool going?

I may be interested in starting a pool... Anyone have any idea if this will be up on Cryptsy to trade for within this month?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Genesis Block on: January 06, 2014, 01:07:24 AM
This is, by far, my favorite article on the steps required to create a new cryptocurrency based off of Litecoin. It goes into great detail how to create the genesis block and what you need to do to start mining your new coin. I know it's redundant to my above post, but it really is worth taking a look it. 4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Barcoin.EXE Crashes on Launch on: January 05, 2014, 10:22:43 PM
Hiya! I've been following this tutorial to try and build the Barcoin source (a copy of Litecoin), and I downloaded all the dependencies, compiled them, and ran the makefile in the Barcoin src folder. It created the EXE file, but when I try and run it, it crashes. I also made sure to download the correct dependency versions for the Barcoin, and not Bitcoin. I'm NOT building with QT... Just command line. Any help? Thanks!
5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: I want to build bitcoind on linux on: January 05, 2014, 07:12:05 PM
It's my opinion that there are way too many dependencies in the Bitcoin build.

Tell me about it! I'm trying to build on Windows, and I've went through about, oh say, a dozen guides and still no luck, and the official docs that ship with Bitcoin tell more or less nothing, especially when you're trying to build a modded version.

Thanks for sharing! I hope this helps out other members.

Noah,

Thank you for this terrific response. I opened the thread with the intention of answering then saw this Smiley

LOL. Sure!

less is more, prefer no more alts thankyou  Grin

I understand. Still - I'm getting board of helping others out with creating their own coins. It's prime time I make my own.

Like the above reply said, the official docs are a great place to start, though I'm finding that StackOverflow and other Bitcoin developer's blogs are much more helpful as I get into things like compiler errors (damn Windows).
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Dice game script? on: January 05, 2014, 02:48:06 AM
First you'll need to install a X-coin daemon onto something like a Digital Ocean Ubuntu server. That's what I use for hosting mine.

As far as finding good, full code repos... That's where your luck ends, though it would not be that difficult to hook into the daemon with JSON RPC and just Google for 'PHP dice scripts', it comes up with a fairly long list of code sites and blogs with examples, such as this one. From there, you just need to modify it to send / retrieve coins from the game's wallet hosted on the Ubuntu server. You could also make the game go a ton faster by not having to wait for transactions on each roll, but instead keep the values in a simple database (that's super secure), so that when the user wishes to cash out, THEN it sends the money to the user's preferred address, instead of sending tiny amounts to their address on each bet. Feel free to ask if you need more detail.

If you don't know how to develop in PHP or another server-side language like Ruby on Rails or Node.js, you would be hard pressed to start a new site. So in the end you're really left with two difficult options: Create the site from scratch yourself or outsource another developer. Sorry. Tongue
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Genesis Block on: January 05, 2014, 02:41:16 AM
What was the question?

I think he's asking for how to create a genesis block. If you're looking into getting started making your own coin, I recommend looking at this tutorial. I'm currently using it, and it worked out great until I had to compile the wallet for Windows, though I think I'll get it solved here soon (I just posted a new thread).
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin / Litecoin Compiling Error on: January 05, 2014, 01:45:39 AM
Hiya! I am working on a new dummy coin for testing and when I try and compile the Windows client I keep getting the error:

Code:
../mingw32/bin/ld.exe: cannot find -ldb_cxx

I have the Berkeley DB installed at C:\deps\db and I compiled it with:

Code:
  ../dist/configure --disable-replication --enable-mingw --enable-cxx

I am following the amazing tutorial for creating a clone over here, but I also tried the instructions on StackOverflow and the error was the same. If it helps, I'm running Windows 8 x64 with MinGW 20120426. All the versions for the dependencies are the same as the ones on the tutorial linked to above.

I checked in the C:\deps\db\build_unix and sure enough there is a file called db_cxx.h, but no library to be found.

I'm not trying to compile the non-Qt version, so no need to worry about that. Thanks so much for any replies! Smiley
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Do You Want to See in an Alt-Coin? on: January 05, 2014, 01:37:35 AM
premined, that gives some presure to the devs to increase the coin price on the excanges.

Well, when you have coin like Quark with 98% premine yes, that puts some pressure on DEV´s to continue working on the coin because they just cant dump in one go so many coins! In time they have to make an effort to push and promote the coin, creating partnerships and trying to spread the coin to flow into markets and if people take interest in the coin and its structure, the coin takes off almost on its own due to so many parties already involded OR it can be a long term pump and dump for all parties involved /scary Grin

DOGE for example if it stays as its has been one of the most profitable coins to mine for awile long you can rest assure it wont die because real investments are taking place around DOGE.

Then you have the instantmine and premine like around 2% claim from DEV´s for Giveways, bountys, etc... to sustain the coin. These are tricky because either its a dumping coin as soon it hits a market like for example Mooncoin or it can be a coin to watch and keep an eye on like Earthcoin for future investment!

And lately we had coins popping up like cherries which at launch dont have source codes ( WICH IS A REAL DANGER BECAUSE ANYTHING THAT YOU DOWNLOAD IS A POTENTIAL VIRUS) wallets or anything else but a DEV with a premine coin to just dump hit at the first chance he or they can get Shocked

So, this is the general overview that in my opinion you have to look and think what you want from a coin to give to the world as a currency but probably its just me Wink

Good trading

This is by far the best post so far. Thanks for your input! It's going to be 101% open source with only like 0.05% premine to supply competitions and the like. Smiley

Neat! I'll look into that, but remember, the goal of it is to keep it simple. Not complicate things by adding more. Wink

Thanks for all your thoughts! I understand many of you are against the development of new currencies, but what's the harm in doing so? If people love Bitcoin, they'll stay and I see it as doing the community a service as in getting the word out about cryptocurrencies (yes... there are people who have no idea what they are). I'll put the posts here into consideration as I continue developing.

There's no harm, but there's really no need for new ones either unless they bring something new.

I'm thinking about a totally new wallet design, simpler install, and really just cutting the crap out of cryptocurrencies to their most basic form.

I'm currently building an alt-coin for minimalists, perfectionists, and designers. What would you like to see in such a coin? I intend on totally revamping the UI for the QT wallet, I created stunning custom marks, and am working on a zen website that couldn't make it simpler to get started.

I don't want to see any more alts  Cheesy. Unless there's something revolutionary or unique I don't see the point.

I totally see your point. I just wish to leave my mark on the cryptocurrency community. My difference is that most alt-coins today can be ugly in design, install, building, mining, etc. My point in the creation of a new one is to remove all the clutter and make starting with the coin as easy as three button clicks.
