"In the internet, no one knows you're a dog"
"In the bitcoin, no one knows your dog is a millionaire"

Recently I have watched a vedio in YouTube from Andreas M. Antonopoulos regarding where we are headed in open networks of the information economy. It will give us consice explanation about what might be our future with blockchain technology. So I thought it's worth to be shared.

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bounty hunting advice for a newbie on: October 28, 2018, 03:37:39 PM
I think this Bounty campaigns in a nutshell... thread created by me will help you to get an idea about bounty campaigns Smiley

But my advice is DYOR before participating in any campaigns. Most of the ICOs are loving bounties. The real problem is most of the ICOs are scams these days. So you need to consider several factors before joining a bounty campaign. Following threads (created by Coolcryptovator) will help you to spot scam ICOs and don't bother to participate any bounties of those scams.

6  Other / Meta / Re: Meta board flooded by account recovery thread ( ban/locked and hacked account) on: October 28, 2018, 11:10:06 AM
Unfortunately, all of the ban appeal attempts in this section will fail. Modz has 100% accuracy when they ban an account! This is the only way OP that we could help the admin to resolve some issue for the ban appeal of some users in this forum. But, for those locked accounts then I cannot comment a post for this time.
I'm afraid to say that you're wrong. Because I have been banned by a Global Mod mistakenly when I was a member and unbanned with an apology. They are also humans and I can't imagine how much workload they got assigned with the limited number of available Global Mods.

The rules can be amended. Besides, they're 'unofficial' and I don't think anyone is trying to prohibit users protesting or appealing completely, but rather to limit the number that are needlessly doing it and also clogging up Meta in the process. If the way bans are issued changes and the reason is stated then users won't need to create a new account to ask why they're banned as they'll know. Some will still inevitably protest but people are proposing it should just be in a separate 'ban issues' subboard.

Totally agreed. I also created a thread regarding this separate sub-forum for ban appeals but most of the members wouldn't agree with my suggestion. It is not a big deal to show the reason for their ban if we think about the number of useless threads. If the admin wouldn't agree to start a separate sub-board it is better to increase the number of Global Mods to investigate the appeals/hacked account requests quickly.
7  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos please change the ban appeal message. on: October 28, 2018, 10:17:15 AM
As some mentioned in here, since some people have actually be banned by mistake, would be better to rectify the message explaining that unless you are innocent and wrongly banned, there is no point in appealing.
Actually, I'm also agreeing with the @Piggy because I know how I felt when I got auto-banned by one of the global mod by mistakenly.

In my case, I have created this SMART CONTRACTS, simply explained... thread by transcribing the content of a video and I have already mentioned the link of the original video. But one member misunderstood my wording (actually it's my mistake not using the right word) in the OP and report my thread to one of the mod. Then mod auto banned me while I am writing my explanation to the member who claimed that I'm a plagiarist. Next day @theymos unbanned me with the request made by the global mod by reading my ban appeal.

I just want to express there can be some misunderstanding by even mods. Luckily I knew why I have been auto-banned since the member posted his claim in my thread. If he didn't do that I won't be able to find out the reason for my auto ban. Sometimes it would be the end up my career in bitcointalk forum since most of my friends told me there is little chance that you get unbanned and it will take a long time with the request system which isn't helpful as my observations. Therefore I also believed that reason to be shown on their ban message with the reference post. If that happened I believed most of the copy-paste spammers would think it is useless to create a ban appeal thread in Meta unless they have strong evidence. Meta is now almost filled with only ban appeals and appeals of hacked accounts. Showing the reason for banning wouldn't do any harm at all but can reduce the some of the useless requests which already clogged the Meta.

Edit - The author of the medium article excerpted the content of the video without mentioning the source. I just shared the original source but not the plagiarist (medium author). That's what misunderstood the member who claimed that I'm a plagiarist.

<...>
In addition, a large Merit Sources seems to have dropped out (and he/she looked like a 1K monthly Merit Source), so that could create a small dent.

The dropped out merit source is QuestionAuthority and he is the number 2 in the list of meriter user rankings with 3225 awarded merits. So that could be the small dent that you highlighted

Apologies to all concerned, I will no longer be handing out merit in this thread. Theymos removed me as a merit source because he disagreed with the way I spent my merit.
9  Other / Meta / Re: Reporter Statistics on: October 27, 2018, 12:00:11 PM
I can't take a picture due to the connection not being able to withstand uploading it. However, I'm giving those that want to catch up a few days.

But I have:

39883 reports with 100% accuracy. 263 bad. 45 unhandled.

Allow me to post the screenshot for you Cheesy are you a superhuman? because you have increased your reports count up to 39883 from 2213 less than a year

Why some reports are unhandled for a long time ( in fact forever)?
Sometimes the post can be deleted before seeing your report and it will be marked as unhandled too as well as the reason given by @Welsh
10  Other / Meta / Re: Reporter Statistics on: October 27, 2018, 11:33:01 AM
Lately "report to moderator" have increased at least x10. And multiplying with the spammers/scammers/copy pasters increasing, at the same time restrictions somewhat put them in place, the numbers would be far ahead than the previous year.
I think this [Guide]Reporting effectively (by Welsh) would be the major factor for increasing the number of reports. That thread is the motivation for most of the newcomers.

BTW this is my report stats and my target is to get the 100% accuracy in future Smiley

11  Other / Meta / Re: Moderators deleting for no reason. on: October 27, 2018, 06:05:06 AM
<....>
and my post was deleted?...just does not make sense to me...
Actually what you don't make sense, whether the deletion of your post or not deleting the other post. It seems like you're creating this redundant thread with useless red color not to knowing the reason for your post deletion but to asking why mods did not delete other posts.

So my advice is don't worry about others post not get deleted or not but to improve your posting behavior. Meanwhile hit the "report to moderator" button when you think there is any violation of forum rule rather creating a thread in Meta.

13  Other / Meta / Re: Posting behaviour feedback on: October 26, 2018, 04:04:12 AM
I have barely been on here the last few months as i have had so much on in real life that i literally haven't had a lot of time to be on here.

I completely missed the 'Newbie/Junior member/1 merit' implementation, but i must say that in the past few days i have browsed i can see its definitely paid dividends with a much improved and organic posting behaviour on here as opposed to a few months back when the quality was pretty drastic to be honest.
Starting a new thread in Meta for just posting your observations about the improvement of post quality is not necessary (After you barely been on the forum last few months)

Imagine what would happen if all the users come up with their own threads in Meta to share their experience about what happened when they were not active for a few months. So next time it is better to read the old threads regarding those changes which already discussed several times. If you want to share the view of your side better to reply in the original thread instead of creating a separate thread.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Helpful Links on: October 25, 2018, 06:57:09 PM
<.....>
Don't know why you created this thread since it is still showing a short description about all boards under the every board for every user Cheesy

So when you want to post something in the forum make sure to read the board description under the board name before posting.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Google Translate, what is wrong when I can not use fluent English on: October 22, 2018, 06:56:24 AM
English should be the main language since bitcointalk is an international forum. So what I'm suggesting is try to learn English rather complaining about its difficulty. You don't need to be a master of English language in order to participate in the discussions going on the forum. Following links will help you to learn English.

Install Grammarly Chrome extension for your chrome browser and it also would help you to correct the grammar mistakes.

BTW English is also not my native language

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: jr member on: October 22, 2018, 06:23:12 AM
<...snip...>
Stop asking about merits and try to be helpful for the other members and be creative. Read the rules and sticky threads in every board before posting. Most importantly use the search function before starting a thread. Reading is another good habit that you should have practised before thinking about merits.

When I look at your post history and its filled with posts which posted in Altcoin discussion board where most of the merit sources ignored looking posters in those areas. So if you post something good and informative posts on those boards wouldn't be identified by merit sources and other members since those good posts can be lost with the see of spams.

This is what I have felt about merits when I was a Newbie like you and hope it will help you.

17  Other / Meta / Re: improvement suggestion: adding the main thread on "deleted message" DMs on: October 21, 2018, 07:33:10 PM
So I think admin/staff shall take necessary actions or solutions regarding those issues with the self-moderated threads and also red tagged members shouldn't allowed to create self-moderated threads except discussions.

What does this have to do with red tagged members?  Huh
That's what theymos said at the first place when introduce self-moderated threads but I don't know is it still active or not. I'm a supporter of putting restrictions for the creation of self-moderated threads on certain sections(market place etc) where trust involved but not general discussions.

Also he said that he will added the option to see the deleted posts in future but that option also not still available for users.

will users see when posts are deleted?

No. I might add that later, but it's not a trivial change.

Self-moderated topics? Can you say what boards this applies too? This is going to be bad if it is on certain boards, cause some people can edit threads to benefit them, I really hope it is just the off-topic board.

The excluded sections are Meta (except for this topic), Scam Accusations, Important Announcements, and Auctions. Tagged scammers can't use this feature.
18  Other / Meta / Re: improvement suggestion: adding the main thread on "deleted message" DMs on: October 21, 2018, 07:17:54 PM
You can contact a global mod and I'm hoping they can may be give you the uncensored thread if it's a clear cut scam case.

I'm also agreeing with you regarding the point you're highlighting. It is very good to see if admin can remove the "self-moderated" option from certain boards or sections like market place or otherwise put certain strict restrictions to the OP before starting a self-moderated thread in marketplace board. Because the thread starts can cover up their shady activities by deleting others posts when someone asking about the in-depth details about their project.

There is a another problem also highlighted by @EcuaMobi regarding moving the self-moderated threads between boards to delete the post of others. theymos answered this thread by saying non-mods members cannot move self-moderated threads. But what would happened if any mod moved the topics for the relevant board?

Link>>>Avoiding board limitations by temporarily moving threads to another board

So I think admin/staff shall take necessary actions or solutions regarding those issues with the self-moderated threads and also red tagged members shouldn't allowed to create self-moderated threads except discussions.

19  Other / Meta / Re: Percentage of Merit received on old posts, deleted posts, and average per post on: October 21, 2018, 06:31:44 PM
Source merits are a constant flow, and not a monthly update. They are replaced 30 days after being awarded. If they aren't awarded instantly, they aren't lost, it just means a slight delay in their replacement.
Looks like theymos didn't agree with your explanation, but with the @suchmoon Wink

If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.
20  Other / Meta / Re: Unused smerits shouldn't be destroyed but sent to merit sources after 1 month. on: October 21, 2018, 05:58:30 PM
I just quickly gone through with merit dashboard and found out that there are 44 Hero members still didn't sent any sMerit from their initial airdrop of 1000 Merits and also there are 44.133 Merits (around 22K sMerits) hoarding by those 44 Hero Members alone.
The airdrop was 500 for 95% of the Hero members,  not 1000, and i'm pretty sure the sMerit that was received from the airdrop was absolutely not a 2:1 ratio. (So 500 Merit ≠ 250 sMerit.) It was wayy less.
I didn't say those 44 members were Hero Members at the time of introduction of merit system but now. They were most probably Legendary at that time and they all got 1000 airdrop merits according to the merit dashboard. You can simply go to the merit dashboard and check with the ranking up pipe line and they still got those 1000 merits in their pockets without spending any at all.

<...snip...>
So the most you could get is if you were a Legendary who maxed out your activity points in the last year, in which case you would get 1 * 0.4 * 1000 = 400 sMerit.
Here we go.. that means those 44 most probably have nearly 17k unspent sMerits.

I agree. If anything, merit sources should be able to delegate sMerits to others so that their unused merits could allow someone else to give more merits.
This is what Jet Cash already suggested as dMerits (delegate merits). He already done a trial with  @seon by giving away his 10 source Merits to help with Spanish local board and it all goes well. Sometimes merit sources not having enough time to going through every boards for looking posts which truly deserved to be merited. Because I have recently seen that one of the merit source already started a thread in Meta by asking how he should spent his source Merits.

So deligating a apperentice for spent unused merits wouldn't be a bad idea at all. But those delegate merits shouldn't been added to the total merit count of the apprentice of merit source.
