None of the cards I met was locked. You just must use the right software to midify it. Unlocked voltage:

280x Dual-x
280x Vapor-x
280x Gigabyte
280x Toxic

I think none of the other cards has the voltage locked.

Hi,
has anyone experience with this vapor? Product code is 11221-12-40G. I have some ordered but I need to know how it hashes Smiley The params are 3GB DDR5 (6200MHz), AMD Radeon R9 280X (1000MHz), boost clock 1100MHz. Picture here http://www.alza.cz/sapphire-r9-280x-vapor-x-oc-tri-x-d519207.htm

Hi,
I'm also owner of this type of GPU. What solved my problem was to lower the GPU's temperature (below 73'C, try more with additional fan if needed). Then it should be fine. If you have older batch of these cards (serial numer similar to 1348xxxx), try undervolting by Sapphire Trixx SW. With clocks around 1080 it should be stable at 1,081V, over 1100 rise voltage higher - 1.120-1.160V

What way do you position something like a desk top fan in relation to the GPU? I have a pc tower (with the side panel removed) and everytime I put the fan up against the tower, the damn GPU temp GOES UP! Is it because the side airflow from the desk fan is messing with the upward airflow from the card fans? Makes no sense to me.

It's an MSI R9 280x by the way.

My rig is not in the computer case, it's in open space.. If you need to leave it in the case then you need to close it and provide better airflow (more fans to front/back parts of the case)

As noted above, past record cannot determine the pools future (other than to show the quality of their connection ie low orphan rates).  A pool that maybe have solved 20 blocks in the last 3 hours may get 0 blocks for the next 3 hours - it happens quite frequently.

But if there was a page monitoring for example: middlecoin mines only cat, doge, 42, etc and similar list for other pools, you should be able to see how efficiently every pool transfers altcoins to bitcoins etc:) I know it's a quite unpredictable thing but what I was asking is if is out there any page like http://middlecoin.info/flotchart.php?BTC=1ETYyETSWhkVxyj7HrBVEr5iAxAx2uSfTe comapring more pools at once..
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Most profitable pool right now on: February 08, 2014, 11:15:20 AM
I don't mean usual pools. I mean profit switching ones as middlecoin, trademybits, coinsolver etc. There is very high hashrate so block is found very often. What I meant is to get some info what coins have been by which pool mined recently (page like coinwarz or coinchoose) and determine which of them might be more profitable in close future:)
It could be also enough to know the btc/mh/day ratio to see if the rig should be leased or mining for me.

do you know any page where can you quickly determine which pool is the most profitable right now? If not would you be interested in such tool?

Most profitable pool?
Or, do you want to know the most profitable coin to mine?

I mean most profitable pool. I need to quicky find which pool does the most BTC/MH/Day right now, for last 3 hours, etc..  Wink

Also try to lower voltage using Sapphire Trixx SW. Try 1089mV for 1070 engine.

I explained it here

10  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Running 6x 280x, How much power do I need?! on: February 07, 2014, 09:08:25 PM
That really depends on the type of 280x. In my experience Sapphire Toxic needs more power than the rest. If it's not a Toxic you should count 230-270W per card (undervolted between 1080mV - 1150mV). For Toxic 300W to be sure. I'd go for 3x 500W (650W) PSU (should be able to get gold cert. for $100 each). If you dont have mobo with molex, you should get some powered risers to reduce the risk of burning your mobo.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Advice on 2x R9 280x setup for Litecoin Dogecoins on: February 07, 2014, 08:56:02 PM
Hi,

it's not a problem to use 5 or 6 of these cards in one mobo. Crossfire is not necessary. I run 3 different kinds of 280x i a single rig, but it's quite hard to set all to do the max hashrate. You say you do 650kH/s. On 280x you should do at least 740kH/s. 650 is just waste of electricity;)

13  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: SHA 256 vs Scrypt on: February 07, 2014, 08:22:08 PM
Just gathering data, building a rig and not deciding whether to get some Bitcoin ASICS (which im assuming you can reconfigure to other sha coins) or do a scrypt rig. Thanks!

I'd recommend Scrypt and follow coinwarz/coinchoose to mine the most profitable coin. If want quick profit use trademybit or similar pools.
14  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is the R9 280x Sapphire Vapor-X Voltage Locked? on: February 07, 2014, 08:01:03 PM
Hi,

it's not. Don't use cgmiers gpu-vddc. Use Sapphire Trixx SW but you have to setup voltage on every PC restart.. To avoid setup after each restart, lower the voltage, save bios thru GPU-Z and flash it to your GPU (at your own risk).

For 1080MHz use 1089mV, for 1120MHz at lest 1130mV. You'll also save a lot of energy (up to 60W/card) of which you can donate me some Wink

The vapor-x is more sensitive to temperatures in some cases, but if set properly it can give you 780kH/s.
15  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Sapphire R9 280x Dual X wont post at all? on: February 07, 2014, 07:52:06 PM
Hi,

that's a shame. Do you have windows 8? I guess yes. Be sure to use the ATI Catalyst 13.12 or 13.11. I solved this problem by this:

Go to start, search for device manager and look for graphics cards. Choose the Windows as Series 7900 and click update driver and select catalyst installer Wink Your other not recognized cards will be maybe located in Audio Something category. Install driver same way.

Hope it helps.

If not, you can try PM me..

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X OC mining settings on: February 07, 2014, 07:29:38 PM
Hi Guys,

I have recently bought a sapphire radeon r9 280x for litecoin mining.
I have tried several different cgminer settings and so far this is giving me the best results so far ( 700 kh/s )

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --scrypt --intensity 13 -g 2 -w 256 --lookup-gap 2 --temp-target 70 --auto-fan --temp-cutoff 90 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1500 -o stratum+tcp://world.wemineltc.com:3333 -u workername -p password

Ive read people get 750 kh/s with this card, so if anyone can help me out with that?
I tried playing with thread concurrency and set it to 11200, also set memclock lower but none of those help.

Also i heard about undervolting the card, but i am not really confident doing that.

At first check your BIOS version via GPU-Z if it contains string similar to 15.41.XXXXXXXXXXV42, you're not the lucky one and bought one of the "throttling" series. On this card the VRM temperature is to high and you need to lower the voltage. Try voltage change to 1,089V (use Sapphire Trixx software not cgminer argument) and provide good cooling (temps 73'C or less). With this card you're able to do approx 740kH/s.

If you have other BIOS version, you can do up to 780kH/s with increasing GPU engine to 1130MHz (1150mV / 63'C in  my case).

The best params I've found are generally based on 8193 thread concurrency.

CGMiner settings:

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
del *.bin
cgminer --scrypt --intensity 13 -g 2 -w 256 --lookup-gap 2 --temp-target 68 --auto-fan --temp-cutoff 90 --thread-concurrency 8193 --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock 1500 -o stratum+tcp://middlecoin.com:3333 -u 1ETYyETSWhkVxyj7HrBVEr5iAxAx2uSfTe -p x

 Wink

If you're desperate, try PM me and I can try to solve it for you via remote desktop or similar SW.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sapphire R9 280X - Dual-X or Vapor-X? on: February 07, 2014, 07:11:38 PM
I would prefer Vapor-x. If you can provide colder environment, you are able to do over 770kH/s - temp below 73'C. With dual-x I've reached only 750kH/s but it does not mind temps over 75'C.
