41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Get Merchants in your Town on board with Bitcoin on: May 20, 2014, 06:27:42 PM
Easier said than done, but the best way to get merchants to adopt it is to just keep telling them about it.

Join CoinMobs.com and we can all get together and tell them about it.

We are looking at this magazine with interest because it goes hand in hand with the CoinMobs.com mission.

What is a "Coin Mob"?
Similar to a "Flash Mob" a "Coin Mob" is where a group of people who would like to pay for goods and services using bitcoin, organize a day and time to visit a selected merchant who either IS ALREADY accepting bitcoin OR who is willing to accept bitcoin for payment instead of their local government issued currency. The idea being that if a merchant is told that "X" number of people are going to show up on a certain day and shower them with bitcoin it will convince that merchant to accept bitcoin for the event and for future patronage, thus increasing our beloved bitcoin community and "closing the loop" in the bitcoin economy.

How can I participate?
1.   Join the forums.
2.   Attend Coin Mobs.
3.   Become a Captain and organize Coin Mobs.
4.   Spread the word! Invite your friends! Invite your enemies!
5.   Donate – Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, all donations welcome!

How can I be promoted to be a Coin Mob Captain?
1.   Register on the Coin Mobs forums.
2.   Email your username and city, St, Country and Twitter handle to:
coinmobs@gmail.com
3.   Your email will be processed and we will promote your account.

What are the requirements to be a Coin Mob Captain?
1.   Have a willingness to participate.
2.   Have a technical understanding of bitcoin.
3.   Be able to organize a Coin Mob on our forums.
4.   Communicate with members via our forums and Twitter.

If you haven’t heard the Bitcoins and Gravy podcast yet head over to www.bitcoinsandgravy.com and listen to episode #16!

If you are interested in becoming a CoinMobs Captain in your local area please just register on our forums and then send an email to coinmobs@gmail.com with your city, state and your forum handle  and your Twitter handle so that we can promote you!

Help spread the word and follow us on twitter: @CoinMobs

Thank you all so much for your support! Together we can bring Bitcoin to the masses!

48  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Single Bitcoin will Worth $100K - Do You Believe it? on: May 16, 2014, 10:05:11 AM
Technically, wouldn't it fall under this definition? "temporarily simulated or extended by computer software: a virtual disk in RAM; virtual memory on a hard disk." In all reality, if we lose computers we lose Bitcoin. Therefore it's temporary, in the sense that it can disappear in the blink of an eye.

as long as at least one copy of the blockchain existed in the world bitcoin would still exist. no bank (federal reserve or otherwise) on this planet has as many backups of their data as the blockchain does.

and no. bitcoins are not temporarily simulated. the math that exists as "physical" ones and zeros that make up a bitcoin on a hard drive exist digitally and can just as easily be printed on paper, etched into concrete, carved into wood, etc...

the point that most people miss is that every single satoshi is unique and irreplaceable and in no way whatsoever by any definition are they "virtual". digital yes (unless you printed them out on paper).

Bitcoin is a DIGITAL currency.

Fiat currency, while printed on paper as well as existing as digital data are "virtual" as they ARE extended by computer software, temporarily simulated, replaceable, infinitely expandable, infinitely replicatible. literally no different than World of Warcraft gold. If Blizzard wanted to release more gold into their economy then all they need to do is enter some new parameters and presto. no different than the federal reserve.

NO ONE, not even Satoshi herself can create more bitcoins.
49  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Single Bitcoin will Worth $100K - Do You Believe it? on: May 16, 2014, 02:17:46 AM
Are you saying bitcoin is equivalent to gold? Bitcoin is virtual so how would people feel safe in investing if the traditional market crashes or a financial crisis occurs?

Bitcoin is not virtual.

You cannot create it out of thin air. You cannot replace it if the private keys are lost. The blockchain contains all the 21 million coins that can ever exist. no more. no less.

the number of coins available can only GO down (not counting the addition of coins until the year 2140) due to lost private keys.

each bitcoin or fraction of a bitcoin is a real object, digital yes, but REAL. REAL UNIQUE MATH.

The USD/FRN is virtual. It is not backed by anything physical or unique. It can be whipped into existence just because someone deposits cash into a bank account (look up fractional reserve lending). it can be printed in any quantity at any time by the federal reserve. In fact the only difference between USD/FRN's and Monopoly money is that the fed puts serial numbers on their paper.
50  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin’s Downward Trend Spells Trouble on: May 14, 2014, 05:32:52 PM
while i am at it... lets talk downward spiral...

the USD/FRN is now just over 100 years old (lets not nit pick over a handful of months).

in that time the USD has lost OVER 97% of it's purchasing power

meaning that a dollar bill in 1913 was worth $1.00 one dollar and now today $1.00 compared to the 1913 dollar is worth a whopping $0.03 -  3 CENTS! just three lousy pennies.

and much of that decline took place since 1995 with a 60% loss of purchasing power.

--------------------------

it would be smarter to sell your house for 100 bitcoins than to sell it for 1 million USD.

THATS A TROUBLING DOWNTREND!
51  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin’s Downward Trend Spells Trouble on: May 14, 2014, 05:17:32 PM
such filthy troll bait garbage.

too bad there isn't some group of people who can read and remember everything that trolls write and then judge them based on the content of their writings, to later gauge their future dribble... oh wait... there is...

T H E  I N T E R N E T !

Take your FUD and wade it up in to a little ball and cram it dead in your ass.

Period.

just breaking it down at todays exchange rate

1000000.00   = 1 BTC ($436)

500000.00   = 0.5 BTC ($218)

250000.00   = 0.25 BTC ($109)

100000.00   = 0.10 BTC ($43.60)

50000.00   = 0.05 BTC ($21.80)

25000.00   = 0.025 BTC ($10.90)

10000.00   = 0.01 BTC ($4.36)

5000.00   = 0.005 BTC ($2.18)

2500.00   = 0.0025 BTC ($1.09)

1000.00   = 0.001 BTC ($0.44)

500.00   = 0.0005 BTC ($0.22)

250.00   = 0.00025 BTC ($0.11)

100.00   = 0.0001 BTC ($0.04)

50.00      = 0.00005 BTC ($0.02)

25.00      = 0.000025 BTC ($0.01)

this really does make it easier to display, remember, use, etc...
53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Generating Vanity Addresses on: May 04, 2014, 02:29:25 PM
Do you have a decent graphics card? If so, did you use the version of vanitygen that exploits it? Doing so can make a big difference. On my machine, generating 1Brangdon gets to 50% after 511 days with vanitygen, 310 days with vanitygen64, and 15 days with oclvanitygen. So 20 times faster with the graphics card.

i used vanitygen64

i didnt know about oclvanitygen. i have a whole slew of GPU miners that it should work on. i will try it sometime as i retire my gpu's but they are still hashing strong from me so i hesitate to take one offline.

Seriously though, 1 bit = 100 satoshis is perfectly fine.

1 bit is {like} $1.00

1 satoshi is {like} $0.01

so 50 satoshis is half a bit like 50 Cents is Curtis James Jackson III, oh no wait i think i screwed something up there... oh hell you understand what i mean it makes sense...

now i am just waiting for a nerdcore rapper named "fity satoshi"...

9 characters !? Good luck Smiley

I thought I was hard core when I searched for 6 lol.

Already found it. Took just 25 days. If I do it again I think I am going to distribute the job across many more servers in my data center to increase my luck and perhaps do it faster next time.

the second i saw this i groked the necessity of it right away. it makes perfect logical sense. current accounting software will deal with it nicely. people can say it and remember it easier and it scales well especially as bitcoin prices rise... when we have a $1M/BTC then we will be paying for things with 1 or 2 bits... i like it.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Generating Vanity Addresses on: May 03, 2014, 02:02:58 PM
Or are you trying to find address with "blackhat" and find the "gek" part accidentally?

Yep... Talk about awesome!
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Generating Vanity Addresses on: May 03, 2014, 03:48:43 AM
well if you have any extra bitcoin you want to let me hold on to just send them to that address... k... thanks!
