601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in RALLY mode on: January 13, 2011, 09:40:54 PM
Yes, all pricing in a free market is the result of supply and demand.  The problem is determining which part of demand is reasonable and which part is "irrational exuberance."
602  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Promoting bitcoins to teenagers on: January 13, 2011, 03:46:08 AM
Finally, teenagers like video games.  Thus they own graphic cards, and I'm sure they'd be happy to use them to mine if we can convince them that they will be able to buy video games with the bitcoins they will produce.

They also don't pay the electric bill, lol.
603  Other / Off-topic / Re: THE MADNESS OF A LOST SOCIETY on: January 12, 2011, 11:16:56 PM
You might join an organisation of anarchists (otherwise known as Marxist-Leninists), destroy the government, eat the rich then sink back into the mire of sub-humanity that is the natural state of miscegeny.

Actually, anarchists split with Marxists during the Proudhon/Marx debates.  I know where you're coming from, however.  So many of those who call themselves anarchists today, such as the ones we see throwing rocks through bank windows on television, are really Marxists.
604  Economy / Economics / Re: Did the cryptography revolution begin too late? on: January 12, 2011, 11:06:31 PM
It will be an epic battle, but we will prevail.  Our social structure is evolving to a decentralized nature.

I like your line "The cypher-sphere creates a place of freedom and anonymity that is guaranteed by mathematics and not the whim of an elected official."  I may steal it.  Wink
605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is based on entropy reduction? on: January 12, 2011, 08:21:40 PM
The energy required to perform the computation increases entropy and the resultant computation decreases entropy.  It's a net increase in entropy, as is everything else in the universe (no machine is 100% efficient).
606  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoind remind me my address on: January 12, 2011, 04:17:40 PM
This will show you all of your addresses, even the unused ones:

Code:
bitcoind listreceivedbyaddress 0 true
607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi Alive? Thread on: January 12, 2011, 03:37:38 PM
Satoshi works for the CIA and has been really busy lately dealing with the fallout from Wikileaks.
608  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinrebate.com community toolbar. on: January 11, 2011, 04:15:20 PM
Hey, I like this a lot.  Maybe you should add the map of exchangers (http://www.bitcoinmap.com) under the Exchange menu.

What is the significance of the built-in search field?  Do you or I get Bitcoins for searching?
609  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I changed my mind about bitcoin-central.net ... on: January 11, 2011, 12:38:59 AM
I will figure out RoR and how to make it work with my host(Installed the gems, tried to update everything, chenged the de[endencies to match my versions such as adding >=3.0.0 to the rails verions and still nothing.) ):
I recommend compiling the latest Ruby 1.9 from source and then using gem to install Rails.  This way you'll pull in the latest of everything.  You'll also need openssl, sqlite3, zlib and probably some other dependencies.
610  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: python OpenCL bitcoin miner on: January 10, 2011, 10:26:27 PM
OK, maybe I will install it as a multiple-monitor setup and just not plug a monitor into the ATI card.  I am still a bit confused about how OpenCL works; I thought the fglrx driver supported it directly.  Is the SDK necessary?
611  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: python OpenCL bitcoin miner on: January 10, 2011, 09:13:44 PM
I'm about to set up m0mchil's miner on openSUSE 11.3, and I have a couple of (hopefully) simple questions.  Can I continue to use my motherboard-integrated Nvidia GPU for display purposes while running an ATI 5XXX card strictly for mining?  I presume I add the ATI driver to the kernel but don't make any changes to X so it continues to use the Nvidia.  Also, can I use the ati-fglrxG02-kmp-desktop driver from the repo at www2.ati.com/suse/11.3/, or do I need to compile from source?  Thanks.
612  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Numerous auctions on biddingpond on: January 10, 2011, 05:24:15 AM
Thanks, ColdOne, for putting stuff up there.  I know it can be frustrating for sellers when there aren't a lot of buyers.  I bid on a couple of your items but was outbid.  If you do decide to stop listing, check back in a few months as Bitcoin popularity seems to be growing exponentially.
613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Major Retail Point of Sale Initiative in USA on: January 09, 2011, 04:23:53 PM
I like the way you are targeting a local area where you plan to have Bitcoin-spending customers lined up.  This is crucial since merchants will quickly lose interest if they go to the trouble of accepting Bitcoin and then don't see any business.
614  Other / Off-topic / Re: Recommend a Linux distro for home use? on: January 08, 2011, 11:17:53 PM
You can also go to distrowatch.com and get a feel for which are the most popular at any given point in time.  There is a series of links on the right side where you can click on the distro and get a short description of what it is targeted to.  I have tried all of the major distros and BSD as well but keep coming back to OpenSUSE.  I think it is one of the best for a development platform.  Ubuntu is probably the best for a first-time user though.  CentOS is the gold-standard server distro, but Ubuntu Server is looking mighty fine these days too.
615  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Dwolla 1 USD giveway, earn 3.24 BTC on: January 08, 2011, 11:11:02 PM
sgornick, are you interested in buying larger amounts of Dwollas, like 100 or more?
616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to delete a "Receiving Address"? on: January 07, 2011, 03:39:12 PM
Perhaps more useful would be folders for the addresses.  This would have utility beyond hiding unwanted addresses.  You could have folders for friends, family, merchants, and of course "junk" addresses.
617  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling my name - 2000 BTC on: January 07, 2011, 05:17:55 AM
Change your name to "X."  It will make signing documents very easy.
618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Experienced licensed personal trainer offers nutrition+training plans for BTC on: January 06, 2011, 03:21:19 PM
Excellent.  Always nice to see the Bitcoin economy expanding.
619  Economy / Marketplace / Security on #bitcoin-otc on: January 06, 2011, 05:33:58 AM
I wonder if someone could explain how to insure privacy/security when using freenode/#bitcoin-otc.  Freenode doesn't allow me to use webchat via Tor.  If I register a nick, can others still view my IP?  Do I need cloaking for that?
620  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I'm selling Reloadable Visa Debit cards for Bitcoin. on: January 05, 2011, 05:11:20 PM
Are you still exchanging Bitcoin for cash-by-mail?
