1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform (release date Feb 15th or earlier) on: February 04, 2016, 08:15:38 PM
Hello, for those of you who don't know me, I'm sling00, former lead platform developer for pimp ( From the beginning of its inception, everything past melts second beta, My job was the operating system, scripting, all the backend stuff that makes ati drivers play nice on all the different machines. compiling all 15 different miners, the update system..etc...).  Up until about 4 days ago, thats what I did.  I'm now the lead developer for gpuShack's ethOS.

To rebut some of the character claims against kotarius, specifically saying he only cares about the money... let me just leave this here from #ethereumos:

kotarius> werwercat sling00 , i have an annoucement regarding the distribution of profit from the revenue associated with the distribution of ethOS. #1. I have decided not to take any profit from it. since profit = revenue - costs, i will only recover costs associated (shipping, $10/ssd, etc)
<kotarius> #2. profit will be distributed among developers who have write access to the google docs dev sheet
<kotarius> #3 developers will earn gpushack profit based on the number of completed action items
<kotarius> from said ethos sales
<kotarius> #4 since weipool is the preferred pool, action items associated with the continued development of this pool can be logged on the dev sheet
<kotarius> #5 developers are themselves responsible for assigning and completing their own action items
<kotarius> that is all
<sling00> #5 = kotarious got tired of me asking him to add items to it for me <- Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Heliox / Eloivp, I tried to contact you the other day, to let you know about kotarius' involvement in pimp development, and the fact that development would have stopped sooner than it did if it weren't for his input, nor would alot of the cooler quality of life features ever seen the light of day without his support and ideas, and my work. I'm not discounting the work lily did on the front end, or melt did managing the project.  Ystarnaud also played a key role in making pimp what it was at the end by fixing sgminers multi algorithm stuffs. Please consider this before you reply.  Also, knowing that english is not your first language, Let me explain that he was not literally calling you melts dog.  It is a figure of speech, when one person sends another person to raise hell at another person its an "attack dog" or an "enforcer".  It does not literally mean you are a dog, nor was he belittling/degrading you.

It's also sad to me how quickly we all are to turn on each other, when this whole debackle started between pimp and ethos, I tried to defuse the situation, as Kotarius was a friend of mine before pimp, and was the single largest financial contributor to the project through the course of its development, as well as providing us with certain makes of video cards to do specific testing (r9 290 im looking at you.).  Losing my friendship with melt7777 also pains me. However if he is willing to throw away our friendship because of my involvement with ethos, then so be it..  It is my opinion that the pimp projects stagnation, and complacency, as well as melt simply finger pointing every request to a bitcoin feature request page, that the project ended up the way it did, stagnant. I wish the pimp team the best of luck, but i would hope for all of us that you guys can keep it clean and professional.  These are two different products aimed at two different markets, coexistence should not be a problem, and could have been embraced for mutual gains instead of the holy war this has started which leaves mining the community weaker as a whole.

Could you post settings for 280x/290 or 290x? Trying my settings that worked well on the original mod miner, not working well on this one.

Great work so far. Any chance of adding Blake256?

Yes, coming in the coming point release and will be available via pimpupdate as well Smiley

Hi guys,

Sling00 here from the pimp dev team..

To answer some of your questions:

1.5.5 & bootmining:

Well, crontab caught us in a catch22, as such we are moving away from crontab for controlling miner startup.

Graphing issue: known issue but does not affect all machines, again 99% related to crontab, this is also moving to a daemon.

Farmview: x11mod miner breaks farmview. so farmview probably will not work properly when using these profiles, and possibly some newer builds of sgminer.

Never fear though, something much better for farm overview is coming soon (~1 week) and a pimpupdate will replace farmview and install the new solution for you Smiley

I don't get on here alot and post, however if you have any questions needing a quick response come join us on IRC. Freenode #pimp is the best way to get ahold of most of us.

Thanks for your continued support!

Please fix 290/290x sick bug in x11mod kernel.
Works fine on x13mod but x11mod sicks in 1-30 minutes randomly.

Works fine on vanilla darkcoin kernel in sph-sgminer but binary miner & this miner sick the cards.

Would be nice if it could be fixed in x11mod and sgminer 5.0 Smiley

set your intensity to less with 1 and will be fine Smiley i did and it works.

intensity 8 will cause the same thing as 17 (which is optimal Wink )

Note: i've tried different card bioses, different operating systems, and different clocks (even insanely low ones), they all sick randomly while the card is stable on every other algorithm/miner ive tried it on. as well as different catalyst versions.

Hi, I tried to help the person seeking to mine your coin/algo, we are now using djstone/sph-sgminer by default so I downloaded prettyhatemachine/sph-sgminer, compiled it, and tested it with the same result. It used to work with the conf provided with the distro. I then tried the pool he gave me and it would not work, I said it was not a top priority, (and its not) this was taken as bashing.  Out of 3000+ downloads per month we have had more inquiries about your algo today than ever.  I will look into the issue, and would appreciate it if someone would stop by and give me a verified working (TODAY) pool to test it against.  I quite frankly do not have time to go through making accounts on every pool on the list to find one that works.  After taking a quick glance over, i think the issue could be resolved by adding the correct difficulty multipler flag to the conf file.  if someone would send me the correct value for this, I will implement it.

Thank you,

Sling00

any good settings for 6950 with this new x11 miner?Huh

I cannot get them not even 30% more from the normal sgminer.

My r9 280x went 40% up.

Anyone got 6950's ??

-w 128 is the key, went from 1.5 to 1.81 at 945/1300  (shaders locked at 1408)
dont try to set a thread concurrency.

Mind doing a build to run on PiMP? www.getpimp.org

See post #104 on page 6.

Hi guys

sling00 from the pimp team here.

If you want to run this miner on pimp, here is how to do it:

Update: The open source version of the modified miner is available via pimpupdate.  So this tutorial is ONLY for the binary miner is as of now unsupported. it still works but is ONLY for the binary miner.

1. use the 64 bit ubuntu build of the miner download it from page 1 of this thread: direct wget link below.

cd ~
wget https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zhfbr8xh6zw0gi0/AAB3vMZ5JQac9tvNbaI6-5pSa/x11-sgminer-linux-64bit-build1.tgz
tar xvf x11-sgminer-linux-64bit-build1.tgz

2. nano /etc/apt/sources.list

it should have the following line:

# firmware
#deb http://debian.cc.lehigh.edu/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

uncomment so it looks like this:

# firmware
deb http://debian.cc.lehigh.edu/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

save the file.  ctrl+x and enter y to save
apt-get update

sudo apt-get -t testing install libc6-dev

once done, the miner will be able to run

then, recomment the line in /etc/apt/sources.list
nano /etc/apt/sources.list
# firmware
#deb http://debian.cc.lehigh.edu/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

DONT FORGET TO COMMENT THIS BACK OR YOU WILL BREAK YOUR SYSTEM ON apt-get upgrade!

Add the following line to /opt/ifmi/poolmanager.conf, indentation and spacing are very important or you will break poolmanager!
Note: make sure to set the mpath correctly to where you put the sgminer binary!

  9:
    mconfig: X11-Opt
    mopts: --api-listen
    mpath: /root/x11-sgminer-linux-64bit-build1/sgminer
    savepath: /opt/ifmi/cgminer.x11opt.conf

create the /opt/ifmi/cgminer.x11opt.conf from cgminer.x11.conf (cgminer.darkcoin.conf on pre 1.4.2 releases)
cp /opt/ifmi/cgminer.x11.conf /opt/ifmi/cgminer.x11opt.conf

remove or edit the following lines
Remove all pools but one, make sure your syntax is correct and it has no , after its } close bracket
"kernel" : "darkcoin", <- REMOVE no kernel line used with this miner
"thread-concurrency" : "x", <- SET TO 0 or test at your own risk, your old value likely WILL NOT WORK
"gpu-threads" : "1," <- set to 1 or test at your own risk.

CHANGE the worksize line for most cards (this works better on pretty much ALL my cards except the 280x).

"worksize" : "128",
Please stop in #pimp on freenode if you have any questions as i DO NOT check these forums regularly.
