NEM, the first cryptocurrency sent using a smartwatch.

A future headline? I just read that Google has come out with Android Wear, a Android operating system for smartwatches. Smartphones, smartwatches and smart wearables are the future. The wallet can be unlocked with its internal password safe or with facial recognition (PCA, Eigenface, neural net) or with a NFC ring. The camera will read the NEM address from a QR code and the amount can be entered through its touchscreen keyboard (10-key, minuum.com etc... ).

Is it difficult to get a basic NEM wallet running on a smartwatch?

LOL who owns a smartwatch?!

Can someone explain to me why the Nem wallet is going to be browser based?

If you tell us your concerns I'm sure we'll be able to get them out of the way Smiley

I was under the assumption the client wasn't going to be browser-based?  Huh

Again what are your concerns ?

Serving the GUI over a browser makes a lot of sense these days. It's more lightweight, easier to maintain and with all the fancy libraries in no way inferior to a native GUI.

Maybe your concerns are more directed at brainwallets ? If this is the case then it will please you to hear that our client will support local wallets.

Is it going to be browser-based? Do you know?

So long as I can store my coins locally on my PC and not on some database then I'm fine with it.

The GUI will run in the browser yes. However this is just to interact with the native client that is running in the background.
You WILL BE ABLE TO STORE your wallet LOCALLY !

Ah. Gotcha Wink

What the heck is wrong with the official nem forum it is filled with tons of crap posts, someone needs to get on this pronto.
http://forum.nemcoin.com/index.php?board=1.0

Also announcing: Dottpaini, Nemcoin forums first hero member.  With 273 spam posts.

Holy shit, the mods need to delete their posts and ban them pronto!

why would they post it there Huh

Some kid is getting angry because we found his sockpuppets Wink

It does seem like a deliberate attempt to spam. Why else would someone post spam links on a forum with (comparatively) very few users.

Are there any graphic designers who would be willing to create informative infographics once the details of NEM have been fleshed out?

wow nxt price keeps dropping Huh  I thought the price will rise after all the noise about being listed in cryptsy, are the big holders of nxt cashing out? Maybe its good for them, the price earlier was probably propped up and maybe its returning to actual value. With NEM hopefully we will not have the same problem.

POS coins seem to have a bad rep among most crypto enthusiast, We must really emphasize the fair distribution of NEM or we will have the same reputation.

There will be ups and downs...
I too hold and am active in NXT and when NEM is here I will spend time here too.

I hate PoW, its a personal decision, BTC will soon register as a cause of global warming the way its is soaking up the worlds energy supply for something that is a mathematical fiction and simply not needed.
Most crypto enthusiasts are sitting on mining H/W of some form and therefore tend to be enthusiastic about new coins they can rape mine with the H/W they can't use on other coins anymore..

Putting aside distribution issues PoS seems to be more about technology, innovation and driving value through use - which is a lot harder but much healthier in the long term for everyone involved.

Fasten your seat belts for POI Wink

PoI does seem very intriguing!

For Nem to truly succeed, it will needs to be innovative, and have a strong community that will push it, and create business for it.

It already has these!

Fundraising is over and here are some updates and plans ahead:

1. The (first draft) stakeholder list is now updated to the end of the fundraising.
2. Kooream will update his stakeholder list population shortly after.
3. Now we (me, patmast3r and kooream) will deal with any complaint about the list until everyone is satisfied. We also deal with any duplicate hash case thoroughly.
4. A unified list with all stakeholders will be created from these multiple lists. All accounts without Y condition will be removed. Then we will remove any duplicate names so that an account only appears once in the list.
5. A pubic auditing will be announced with detail guidelines/ suggestions. We will have the public auditing lasting 5 days and then have 2 days to consolidate the list and refund big multi- accounters.
6. A final NEM stakeholder list is announced which is the social contract of NEM project to its community stating that all Nemcoins (minus development shares) would be divided equally to these accounts.
7. plans for development are announced and there will be a refund period after that.
8. plans for NEM exchanges are announced.

Looking forward to that!

what gives a thing value. Is it utility, is it beauty, is it nostalgia/emotion, is it cultural?
why is a diamond more valuable then medicine. Why is an arsenal win over spurs more valuable to me then $100 but not a $1000.

The Mona Lisa is to me personally worth very little but to an art lover invaluable. It's rare, beautiful has historical emotional value which converts to financial value.

Bitcoin has value because its relatively rare, innovative, has utility and has gained a reasonable amount of trust. Aurora coin has value because it has utility, somewhat rare, speculative value and sentimental value.

What is the most important component for value creation. How would Nem be valuable to people.Sorry I am just daydreaming. Smiley

NEM would be valuable because people give it value.

It begs the question, why is anything valuable? The answer is that there is nothing intrinsically valuable about diamond, gold, silver or other precious metals. The idea of 'intrinsic value' is nonsense.

Which begs the question why people apart from us stakeholders give it value  Cheesy. How do we make people fall in love with NEM? Doge was brilliant, it appealed to the better side of human nature. It started by being fun, making fun of the greed culture among miners and being generous. wow its really hard to think of ideas that are effective.

Doge's momentum is based entirely on a joke which, like all jokes, will get old. People will get bored of it (I know I'm already sick of it). It's dead in the water as a legit cryptocurrency far as I'm concerned.

To make a cryptocurrency appealing it needs to be
(a) Easy to obtain and use with a friendly, supportive community.
(b) Offer innovative features that sets it apart and lifts it above the competition
(c) Able to be spent at certain places.

Part (c) is important. What the Bitcoin website and subreddit lack is a huge obvious list of where you can spend your Bitcoin. If NEM were to (eventually) make it really obvious where you can spend your NEM, then people will be more inclined to do so. I think it's important to get across that it is an actual currency and not an investment, or a tool to get rich.

I've always thought this. Some of the early arguments against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies went along the lines of "They have no value. It's just numbers. Normal currency is backed up by gold!".

But (as you said) why is gold valuable? What is value? Value is what everyone agrees something is worth.
