1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Reboot Antminer S1 Automatically The Instant It Stops Hashing ***UPDATED on: April 28, 2014, 10:02:54 PM
Every once in awhile my Antminer S1's will stop hashing.
I am not sure why there is no rhyme or reason or pattern.
I just know that I have to babysit them and reboot or power cycle when they stop hashing.
This seems to be a common problem. The reason has yet to be identified.

I don't have time to be a babysitter and I also need to sleep.

So I wrote a small script to check for hashing and set it to run every minute. If the S1 has stopped hashing it will automatically reboot.

1. SSH into your miner. I use putty (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html)
2. enter your login credentials
3. type cd /bin
4. type vi hashcheck
5. type the following code (shown below in bold) into the vi editor

    #!/bin/ash
      var=$(cat /proc/loadavg | grep . | cut -c 1)
      if [ $var -lt 1 ]
      then
      /sbin/reboot
      else
      fi

6. Press the Esc key
7. Type :x and then press enter
8. Close putty
9. Now access your miner via the web interface
10. Click the system tab
11. Click Scheduled Tasks
12. Under */3 *  *   *   *     /usr/bin/cgminer-monitor add the following on the next line */5 *  *   *   *    /usr/bin/hashcheck
13. Click Submit in the bottom right hand corner

That's it. Now your miner will run this script every 5 minutes. If the miner has stopped hashing the script will return a value of 0 causing the miner to reboot automatically.
As long as the miner is hashing the script will return the number 2 and nothing will happen and she will keep chugging away.

To see if the script is running, wait 10 minutes or so then go back to the Status Tab then System Log. Scroll way to the bottom.
You should see a line like this: Mon Apr 28 16:58:01 2014 cron.info crond[576]: crond: USER root pid 3223 cmd /usr/bin/hashcheck

If you see this at the bottom of the System Log then you know the cron job is running correctly.

I know this has helped me tremendously. I hope it helps you too.

As always if this helped you and you feel so inclined send me a BTC donation.

I can help anyone too on a personal basis if needed. Send me a PM. I will talk you through it.
MODS This might be one worth pinning. :0)

I wrote a small script to use the above info to see if the miner has stopped hashing and reboot automatically when it does.

1. SSH into your miner. I use putty (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html)
2. Login to the miner

4. type vi hashcheck

     #!/bin/ash
      var=$(cat /proc/loadavg | grep . | cut -c 1)
      if [ $var -lt 1 ]
      then
      /sbin/reboot
      else
      fi

6. Press the Esc key
7. Type :x and then press enter
8. Close putty
9. Now access your miner via the web interface
10. Click the system tab
11. Click Scheduled Tasks
12. Under */3 *  *   *   *     /usr/bin/cgminer-monitor add the following on the next line */1 *  *   *   *    /usr/bin/hashcheck
13. Click Submit in the bottom right hand corner

As long as the miner is hashing the script will return the number 2 and nothing will happen.

5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Do your S1's stop hashing? Reboot it Automatically. on: April 28, 2014, 01:46:33 AM
Every once in awhile my S1's will stop hashing on a random basis.
I have to power cycle to reboot or login through the web interface and reboot.

This becomes a big hassle. I have to babysit my miners.
Sometimes I don't catch it right away (I have to sleep sometime) and the miners might go for hours without hashing.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I have solved this problem by making the S1 reboot every 30 minutes.

1.) Login to the web interface.
2.) Go to the system tab.
3.) Go to the Scheduled Tasks tab
4.) You should see the following line of code in the text box --> */3 *  *   *   *     /usr/bin/cgminer-monitor
5.) Go to the next line and paste the following code --> */30 *  *   *   *     reboot
6.) Click the green Submit button in the bottom right hand corner.

Now your miner will reboot automatically every 30 minutes.
You can change the 30 to any other number of minutes you desire.
60 would cause the reboot to happen every hour.

No more babysitting for me.

Hopefully this helps some of you too.

I have never been able to find out why the miners stop hashing.
In the meantime this solves the problem.

this just appeared on their FAQ. LOL

I found a bad review in a forum, why do you have any bad reviews?
We have had a few customers who place an order an then can not afford to pay for it.  We are VERY generous with our hold times and typically allow customers to prepare funds, we know sometimes it is difficult to purchase the Bitcoin etc.  With the customers in question we had to sell their product to another customer who had Bitcoin in hand after a week of holding the product.  The customers threatened us and began to makeup information about us, telling us they would put us out of business because they are unprofessional individuals.  Regardless, we are here and have 100′s of happy customers in over 50 countries.  Some others have become furious when we cannot accept cash or check or wire in form of payment, but if we did we would have to operate under a different status and not be able to be in this industry.  Thank you for understanding and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestion on how to better our customer service or any part of our business at any time.  Happy mining!

thanks for advice.

im usually pretty good about smelling stuff out.

however. I asked for pics of the equipment i got this

"Our department is not in the same location,  I will request some photos but I have put a refund request in since you are not 100% positive on this purchase "

Then I got this

"We will not be able to process the request until Feb 4th due to Coinbase waiting times.  You will receive a full refund Feb 5th in the morning Central Time.

Thank you,

Hasher Technologies."

If I get a refund I will eat crow and i will let you all know.
