A little screenshot of the foundation we will launch soon.

Just another reason I still love this coin and continue to hold my investment... I casually recommended the 88 bikes program as a possible online charity that might be a good partner for us a few weeks ago in a single post- and now it looks like the dev is moving forward with that as part of our new foundation. Thanks for letting the community shape our direction!

Dev: thanks for updating the news headings and links on the thread and website...

Feel free to toss a little bounty my way for PR efforts so far if you like! Grin

Checkout this crazy good article about piggy: PiggyCoin Roadtest: "Teaching Your Kids About Crypto. http:/[Suspicious link removed]/ItXgfN2KGJ "

Thanks to TEX_coin for making it happen!

http://cryptomum.wordpress.com/

Really great article and PR for us!
I am sure the info will also be appearing in the "News" section of the Piggy website soon, but I would also recommend adding an  "In the News" heading on the front page of this thread so that all the news mentions, articles, etc. can be listed with links. That way, any new people who discover us here can have easy access to locate those elements. Things like this really add credibility and will no doubt help us grow.

Regarding the "News" section on the website. I like the current "blog-style" format, but I would also suggest adding an actual link to any real published news as well. (for example the current dev interview that is currently listed now) It's nice to read it direct on the site, but it really adds more credibility if the audience can follow a link direct to the source site of where it actually appeared. I think that increases legitimacy, rather than have the appearance that the content came from internal, rather than un-biased external sources.

Getting this coverage was as simple as just contacting a few sites and talking up our coin... hopefully more to follow!

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXE] Execoin - Fast | ASIC resistant | Multipool proof | KGW | no-premine on: April 02, 2014, 05:08:16 PM
One thing I do not like about Execoin is that devs seem to sometimes forget to do very basic stuff, like putting a link to the wallet on the coins website! Embarrassed
This coin needs more development work, community activity and people who actually intend to use it as a coin, right now its just a mining extension of Vert.

Still looks like you like EXEcoin so much so you did bother to register a new user and share your impressions with us. Smiley
Of course newer coins inherit something from their predecessors. The same did Vertcoin by the way.

Dev team is definitely reading this chain and I'm pretty sure they are constantly looking for new ideas on how to increase usage of the coin.

Can you please tell us what community activity do you have in mind?

I am a miner/investor for both VTC and EXE and I think they both have a bright future. But if you don't see some major differences between dev & community support let me point out a few.
There are a lot of directions the EXE community and devs can go in promoting this coin moving forward.

Although VTC is only 47 days older than EXE, Reddit subscribers for VTC are currently 4380 and only 149 for EXE.
In addition VTC has several community related sites:

A "crowdfunding" style site that promotes VTC related projects
http://vertcoinmarket.com/

Current ticker/discussion links/etc
http://vtcboard.com/

VTC Forum... separate from this bitcointalk thread (although it appears to be down for maintenance this morning)
http://vertcoinforum.com/

VTC news archive site
http[Suspicious link removed] can do this and more- but it takes a lot of people to get involved and help raise the bar.

After things settle down for me and now that people are looking to get involved all these things will come. Either from me or some other contributor. I am working on closing out other project related execoin things for now but the next is the crowdfunding and a (surprise) site. :-)
The ticker/discussion links will come as well once Cryptsy hits.
Time is all we need

Thanks- great to hear. I know it just requires patience and increased support from everyone. Too many people get hung up on idea of making a quick return and moving on to the next coin with a lot of attention. I like to look at least 1-2 years down the road. (but even then, there is no guarantee!) Grin

I just stumbled upon another crypto blog/news site called The Cryptocoin Chronicle:
http://cryptocoinchronicle.blogspot.com/

I sent the guy an email inviting him to check out the Piggycoin new website, with more fun, games and educational features on the way. Basically just said that we were not a typical pump and dump currency and that our goal was to become the "Bitcoin for Kids." (and to please consider writing a review, article, mention, etc about us)  I noticed after the fact that he is also a contributing writer to cryptocoinsnews.com and he had a few articles published on that site as well. So if anyone else finds a possible source for news, please feel free to contact the writer with a similar inquiry- or let me know the site source and I don't mind following up as well. The more PR we can generate, the better!
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PIG] PiggyCoin - For youngsters and newcomers! Update your piggybank! on: March 25, 2014, 09:56:20 PM
Really great job on the new website and games so far! Looks great and navigation works well... very professional. I just sent an email to cryptocoinsnews.com to check us out. I don't know if it will do any good, but I think if any of the Piggy faithful out there targets any crypto press that might potentially give us a review, mention or write-up, I think would be a good thing.

The dev's may not want to position Piggy as such, but in my opinion this coin could garner a major amount of PR by simply announcing that we are aiming to become the "Bitcoin for Kids." The main stream news outlets up to this point have really only reported on Bitcoin- I have seen very few mentions of any other crypto. (except when reported by crypto sepecific blogs/online magazines, etc) The main exception to this has been mentions about what the Dogecoin communitiy is doing in regards to charity work. To the press and general public, right now the only digital online currency they know is Bitcoin. So the idea of spreading the gospel of something like Bitcoin, but aimed at kids could be very newsworthy.

I don't think any other crypto has this specific edge right now- and its an angle that standard news agencies might be willing to mention, simply because of the "kid/educational" aspect. If there are not current plans to do a media blitz across all markets-I strongly advise moving in that direction. After doing an initial PR target campaign and contacting every major news organization, I think a great follow-up would be to organize a Piggy charity cause. Just one initial kid oriented cause that we could rally around and donate to, and that funding news would garner big PR as well. We are not going to be able to pull off a $30,000 Jamaican bobsled funding- because of the small size of our community, but maybe something on a much smaller level, affecting a group of kids could be ideal. For example there is a non-profit that provides bikes for disadvantaged kids in various parts of the world called The 88 Bikes foundation. It was started by 2 guys on a bike trip a few years ago that visited with an orphanage. They raised enough money through social media to provide bikes for all the kids... and then just continued on the practice targeting different parts of the world, spreading joy one bike at time.

http://www.88bikes.org/

Piggyis a niche coin with a specific unique audience- and it could really explode with some exposure! Grin

Just a heads up y'all the lack of community and buy support for this coin could've conversely made all miners rich.

Please go over and view VTC/BTC exchange rate over today, one single day, after that KnC scrypt ASIC announcement was made.

VTC had a community and people chirping up their ASIC resistance, people are buying in droves.

Nobody knows about EXE so how can they buy.

It's quite sad.

I don't find it sad at all really. These things take time. I think some people are can be impatient, rather than looking down the road a bit.  I am loyal to VTC...  got in early as a miner and investor, so its been very difficult watching it shoot up in that one initial 24 hour period, and then start falling fast the next day after the panic selling began. Over the course of the last several weeks value has continued to drop, and for a while we were at a stable bottom. However in the last 2 weeks we have reached new lows and only in the last 36 hours are we finally seeing any turnaround. I continued mining VTC until the difficulty was too high a few weeks ago and the value continued its fall- at that point I started mining other alts (including EXE). I feel strongly enough about EXE that I even sold off 500 VTC and purchased EXE several days ago. (of course my value now fell by about 60-70%) But I feel very strong for both VTC and EXE for the long haul. (& have no plans to dump that loss- I am confident it will rise again)

I am only in this game since end of Dec 2013., but if I had to forecast what lies ahead: I will continue mining VTC for now... but at some point in the near future I imagine many more miners will be switching rigs to VTC as the ASIC technology becomes available and takes over the scrypt mining. It will not take long for difficulty of VTC to see major increases, and at that point, I will happily switch over to EXE and ride that train as long as I can as well. I think EXE is well positioned with a nice head start to gain traction before other similar coins are launched. It is true that VTC has a very solid community and pro-active developers- so EXE cannot expect the market to be handed to them... the community must grow as well! Grin

I have a GPU temp question... only mining for about 3 months and the weather has been nice- however, the last 3 days here (in Texas) its starting to warm up and my back room and rigs are showing the results. I plan on moving the rigs to another room with better cooling in a few weeks, but until then please advise. I have 2 rigs with 3 GPU each (MSI R9280x) and also currently using 3 external fans to help. They normally all run in the 70-79c range but now I am seeing some peaks at 82, 83 on a few cards, and I know those will rise as our weather continues in that direction soon. What can I do to lower those temps? (I am ok to lose some hash in the process) Will lowering my intensity number or TC help? What max temp should I really be concerned with? I want the cards to last through their normal lifespan so don't want to really max them out too quick. I have heard 80c is what you want to stay under, but not sure if that is valid. I appreciate any advice!

When I try to sync my wallet, I get a green status check as if its finished, but also getting an error that says "Minting suspended due to locked wallet"

Am I the only fool to encrypt my wallet prior to receiving any coins? I have the password, but only see option to change it to a new password. I am only 3 months into mining crypto, so someone please help this noob!

Glad we have some interest in this direction. I think just simply getting a site up and functioning would be such a major step for PR. (regardless of how much traffic it may or may not initially have) If we had a game/rewards site to attract people to visit- I guarantee we would get some unbelievable PR and drive a lot of interest! That in turn would bring more miners and more investors. I can see the headline now "Piggycoin: The Bitcoin for Kids!" Also love the idea of incorporating schools and parents- there should be info on the site so that teachers and classes could use Piggy as rewards for reading a certain number of books per month, good conduct, finishing homework, etc. The ideas are limitless.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PIG] PiggyCoin - For youngsters and newcomers! Now on exchange! on: March 09, 2014, 05:36:26 AM
PiggyCoin Dev Team: I am a loyal VTC supporter and investor for the long term, but since mining difficulty has gone up, I have been searching for additional coins that I feel have a fighting chance for long term success as well. I have been mining Piggy for about 2 days so far and finally got around to checking out your official website. Very nice job! I have been crypto mining/investing for about 3 months so far, and continually researching the market- and the Piggy site is off to a really great start. I have researched several other coin websites, and I have to say the Piggy site makes a great first impression. Nice graphics, best "how-to guides" I have seen with any coin, really looks promising! I know the tough part is actually marketing to kids, since it is already difficult to market the crypto concept to the public in general, especially since most people are not even aware of bitcoins. (& some of those have only heard the recent negative exchange troubles in news headlines) I think it will be great moving forward if we can somehow partner with some kids websites- especially that involve games, so that perhaps kids can "win" piggiecoins based on their performance. In addition to having typical action or sports games, it would be cool if some of the games were educational things like fun puzzles, trivia questions, math problems, etc. If we could somehow promote the "educational" aspect and use piggies as incentive rewards on a fun site, this crypto could really take off. If no existing sites are out there for us to partner with, perhaps we should consider launching something from scratch.  I think once we had a game site in place, rather than marketing to the general public, I think the first place to target would be to all the existing miners/investors that are currently involved in other crypto coins. Many of these people have kids, and would absolutely love to get their families involved. It would not matter that it would be with a different coin that they are currently involved in- if we had something fun and kid friendly, I think most miners/investors would get involved with Piggy in order to get their kids interested in their current crypto hobby/interest/obsession. We would not be selling them on mining or investing... only in the idea of getting their kids involved in crypto through PiggieCoin. It would require something more than a fun logo and faucet graphics. (although those are great by the way!) I am a video producer (with only limited web skills) but would be more than happy to be involved in helping to coordinate something like this, providing concept, research, planning, etc. If there are no other piggy supporters out there with actual web experience that could make this a reality, I would suggest hiring an outside web creator either through your pre-mine Piggy funds, or even asking for donations to fund the project from the Piggy community. If you formalized a plan, maybe we could put a team together with a clear project goal and bounty rewards for everyone involved? VTC has a specific website with marketing projects listed (like kickstarter) so that the community can fund what they choose. http://vertcoinmarket.com/   I am convinced that community involvement is one of the reasons VTC continues to be a success, remains stable, and has growing credibility within the alt market.

I know this coin is very new and everything takes time to develop... however, I think you have started something with incredible potential and it would be wise continue the momentum. New coins are launching every week, and as of now PiggyCoin seems to be the only alt coin targeting kids/fun- at least that I am aware of. (although another competitor could certainly spring up quickly) There are not many pages in this thread, and what is here so far is pretty much what you see in the majority of any coin: issues with pools, getting on exchanges, and price (or lack of quick gains) All of which is unbelievable to me because your concept here is so much more substantial than 75% of any other new coins that are hitting the market simply as clones, scams, etc. And very little is mentioned about PR, community involvement, ideas for growing the coin, etc. So many crypto people are only interested in something new that will squeeze out as many dollars in a week or two and then moving on. (I try to do the same thing as well- my 2 rigs cost real dollars that I have to justify to my wife!) However, along the way I try to see a bigger picture and get behind ideas (like VTC) that I believe in for the long haul, and not just for a few days.  I think Piggy can do that as well! You may already be moving towards some of these goals- but I at least wanted to throw out a few ideas.  OK, I will stop preaching to the choir...  I'm all oinked out! Grin
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PIG] PiggyCoin - For youngsters and newcomers! Now on exchange! on: March 07, 2014, 03:58:45 PM
plz someone get p2pool up and running...

none of the currently-available pools for this coin seem to be worth a crap.

no disrespect.

I am primarily a VTC miner and investor, but with difficulty way up I started looking for another new coin to start chasing after.
I love the piggy concept, its fun, the faucet graphics in progress look great, and I think its a cool idea to try and attract kids. With that being said, I started mining yesterday with:

https://pig.charityminingpools.com

I know its only been 24 hours and that is a small sample size, but so far, its been a great pool- no down time, easy to setup, etc. and we are finding blocks at a good rate.
(OK, I am now the one finding blocks, haha) As of this morning, I am the only miner! If you are not happy at another pool, come join me- they also donate to charity so that's an added bonus. Roll Eyes
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin-Adaptive N-factor Scrypt-No more ASICs-[EXCHANGES/AMAZON/ATM/MERCHANTS] on: February 21, 2014, 09:35:06 PM
I see some valid reasons brought up about zerocash. The fact of the matter is if you want the widest amount of acceptance from both a miner/investor level all the way up to the government you're going to need transparency. I agree with the decision that was made by the devs. Do you really think the government will let a coin run rampant if they can't ensure that it's not being used for illegal activity and/or the government isn't getting its cut? Or do you think they would be more accepting if there was transparency? I think the choice is clear.
I believe the assertion that "acceptance of government is required" to be false. Bitcoin will fulfil that role. The reality is that vertcoin cannot displace bitcoin in that role. If vertcoin does not take this initiative of privacy then another coin will. The assumption of miner acceptance and government acceptance being required at the same time will be tested sooner or later. I think it would be advantageous for vertcoin to be the first in this space. If not, it will be a missed opportunity in my view.

I think it would be ridiculous to take a chance on implementing something that has such a high probability of government interference. As much as some of us would love to have this notion that crypto currencies are completely separate from countries/governments/laws, etc., you cannot escape the fact that we are dealing with something that has monetary value. If you are benefiting, building wealth, enjoying gains, etc. at some point when you use this stuff to either purchase goods or services, or convert to the monetary format of your home country and put it in the bank, your government will expect taxes, no different than if you enjoyed financial gains from stocks or other investments. I think it would be naive to believe crypto could exist in some type of anonymous void, where governments would be powerless to come after you for non-payment of taxes. I see no difference between hiding income in Swiss bank accounts, , establishing "front" companies in the Cayman Islands for tax shelters, etc. Sure, people do that, but many people get caught. Anytime you use an exchange to buy and sell cryptos, utilize wire transfers, etc., there is already a paper trail back to you. (especially as amounts and values increase to put up more red flags) If VTC, or any other coin implements a feature that offers total anonymity, my guess is that it would be great PR, and I would anticipate the value could really be effected in a positive way for the short term. However, all it would take to come crashing down would be the involvement of  governments to start getting involved with the exchanges- shutting them down, limiting their ability to conduct business with that coin, etc. At that point, I would expect the value of that coin to plummet, and many of us would be left holding the bag. Regardless of what other possible privacy features the dev's are working on now- I think zerocash is certainly not a long term feature for growth. (and yes, I would not be surprised to see another coin come forward at some point with this feature and become popular... but only time will tell if it is only a temporary success) This is one instance where I think its best to lean on the conservative side and take the safe, long term approach. Cool

If you want to join a new pool that is just starting out.... I know it is supposed to even out in the long run, depending on then number of miners, hashrates, etc. But sometimes mining as a little fish is much funner since the payouts can be so much larger as compared to mining as part of a big whale. (even though ya have to wait a bit)

http://panda.stablehash.com/

I started mining yesterday, we found our first block & the payout was really sweet since we are so small. This pool is stable, with no problems. Come hash some Pandas with us!

Created a simple VTC news archive...

www.vertcoinnews.org

Please feel free to email me (through the site) if you come across any relevant news so I can try to keep it current. I think its important we have an easy source so that interested people can easily find VTC news in one location. I realize the new VTC marketing may include some of this stuff on the Vertcoin website- but in case nothing official exists, I wanted to at least get this out.
