Introduction to Vite

Vite is a general-purpose platform for decentralized applications. It is designed to support industrial-strength applications by offering high throughput, low latency and scalability, while also providing security.

The Vite team is dedicated to addressing current performance and scalability issues of infrastructural chains, so that truly practical applications with high-frequency data requirements can be built on a blockchain framework.

On the application side, Vite will choose to first cut into the real-world use cases and then gradually explore new fields. Vite will expand its application to financial services, digital asset management, and offline payments through ecosystem development. The focus will be switched to provide a high-performance platform for high-frequency use cases such as micropayments, life services, and social entertainment.

Vite's unique technology has gained recognition by many institutional investors including Bitmain, OK Capital, Link VC, Node Capital. The team is located in two offices, Beijing and Silicon Valley, serving users in the United States, Australia, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, India and many other countries.

VITE is currently being traded on several exchanges including OKEx.

Vite Characteristics

High Performance
DAG Ledger: Vite uses the DAG ledger structure. Transactions are grouped by accounts and each transaction only changes the status of a single account. The output is separated from the input transaction. Each consecutive transaction does not need to wait for confirmation to be reached regarding the previous transaction. The hierarchical design of the consensus algorithms provides horizontal scalability by consensus group.

Asynchronous Architecture: Inter-contract communication reflects a message-based asynchronous model. Whether it is a transaction or a call, two transactions will be generated on the ledger. A transaction pair splits the transaction into “request-response” modes. Asynchronously decoupling the writing & confirmation of the transaction will support ultra-high throughput.

Security
Snapshot Chain: Vite compensates for the innate security flaws of the DAG structure with the introduction of our innovative snapshot chain technology. The snapshot chain itself relies on a consensus algorithm. If the snapshot chain is forked, the longest fork becomes the chosen ‘accepted’ fork. When the snapshot chain is switched over to the new fork, the original snapshot information is rolled back. The consensus reached on the original ledger is overturned, being replaced by the newer result. From a comprehensive standpoint, the snapshot chain is the cornerstone of the overall system security.

Multi-token Model: user-issued tokens share the same underlying protocol with VITE tokens-having the same level of security. Common security risks encountered within blockchain development (including integer overflow due to bad programming practices) will be eliminated. In addition, Vite will have its own built-in distributed exchange to trade the tokens.

Scalability
HDPoS Consensus: Vite adopts a HDPoS consensus algorithm to complete the block production in a coordinated manner through the delegated nodes. It is not necessary to compute the PoW, and the block interval can be shortened to 1 second which reduces the delay usually taken with transaction confirmations.

Smart Contracts: Vite is a decentralized application platform that provides EVM-compatible virtual machines & Solidity++ language, an extension from the original Solidity. In due time, dAPP developers will be able to effectively envision & deploy applications on Vite with ease.

Cross-Chain Gateway: In order to support the cross-chain transaction of digital assets, Vite has designed the Vite Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (VCTP).

Usability
Virtual Machine: Vite’s VM is compatible with most Solidity syntax. Our VM supports asynchronous structuring/scheduling of contracts and collectively provides standard libraries inclusive of topics the likes of string processing, floating point arithmetic, basic mathematical operations, containers and sorting.

Naming Service: In order to label the address into contract deployment, Vite has a built-in naming service termed VNS (Vite Name Service). Users can register a set of easy-to-remember names and inherently utilize them for the encoding of the actual address through VNS.

Contract Scheduling: We have added scheduling capabilities to Vite’s built-in contracts. Users can register their own scheduling logic within their contracts. The public consensus group will use the snapshot chain as a kind of makeshift timer to send a request to the target contract, in accordance with the user-defined scheduling logic.

Contract Upgrades: In order to solve the problem of the immutability of smart contracts, Vite provides a solution to support smart contract upgrades. Contracts will be upgraded by deploying a new version of said contract; first inheriting the old contract states, then switching to the new address in the VNS, and finally deleting the old contract with a “Self Destruct” command.

Economical Efficiency
Built-in DEX: Vite's built-in DEX will provide users with dual-authorization technology to prevent any preliminary transactions which could falsely facilitate the circulation of digital assets.

Quota Model: Users can choose between a multitude of ways to exchange computing resources. They can also transfer additional quotas to other users through quota lease agreements to improve system-utilization efficiency.

Details will be published in our Medium soon, as well as directions on how to migrate ERC20 Tokens to the TestNet to participate in Voting to earn rewards. On a sidenote: I do not believe staking Vite will be a requirement if you are just running a fullnode.

I do not understand Bitcointalk promotion too much, but, by and large, there is nothing to invent: participants should put a project logo in their profile and make a signature under their posts in the form of brief information about the project. Only I will make a small note, for the time that I am on this forum, I did not see any good project among these signatures.

You have a right to your opinion in regards to signature campaigns. For us, since we now have an actual TestNet up and running (and not just another ERC20 token) - we would like to get as any people as possible to create their own Vite address and interact with the project. While we have the TestNet running, people are able to get free VTT tokens to try out and transfer. Also - the purpose of Airdropping some Vite tokens is so they can play around with the staking/voting functionalities.

Why are ou guys just creating the ANN on BCT after which the ICO has been concluded, there are some good DAG projects now also the smart contract projects just keep increasing, I am of the opinion that it would be a winner takes all in the space, the project that can offer the best scaling solution, not centralised and security would lead the raise

This post is meant to be a replacement for an older post, as mentioned in the reply immediately above this one.

To our knowledge, no other projects have successfully implemented smart contracts on a DAG ledger.  Besides this, we also have many other advantages, including a language called Solidity++ that supports asynchronous architecture and is still maximally compatible with EVM.  Token issuance will not be done with smart contracts (whose security can be compromised with bad coding practice) but rather a simple mechanism where all tokens on our platform share the same level of security ensured by Vite's infrastructure.  We will also have our own DEX and cross-chain gateway with mainstream tokens such as bitcoin, ETH and some stable coins.

We plan to hold a quiz campaign to test community knowledge on our recently-released Vite TestNet Incentive Plan!

The quiz will run from 9:00am to 9:30am (Pacific Standard Time) on Nov 21.

There will be 12 questions in this quiz presented in multiple-choice format.

For each question, we will determine 10 winners: Vite will reward the first 5 quiz takers who answer a question correctly.  We will also randomly select an additional 5 winners from the next 15 correct answers.

Each winner will receive 6,000 VCPs. So if you get every question right, you get 72,000 VCPs!

You will need a Vite address & Vite Test Tokens to participate.

You can obtain a Vite address on our TestNet by using one of our Vite wallets. You can generate an address on our Desktop or iOS wallets, or on our web wallet.

Hello!

We sincerely welcome your participation in Vite Labs' upcoming TestNet incentive program (aka Super Nodes mining program).  To participate, you would apply to become a super node, and once approved, compete in super node election on our network. When you are a super node, each time you produce a snapshot block will entitle you to mining rewards. 

More detailed and technical instructions will be provided when the incentive program goes live in mid-November.  For now, you may apply by following these steps: visit vite.org, navigate to "Super Nodes" at the top, and then click on "Apply for SBP" to complete the application form.

Below are some key points with the incentive program (also see the enclosed infographic):

+ Return on investment may reach 240%: The supply of VITE (initially 1 billion) will rise at 3% per year. All of this inflation will be distributed to the super nodes.  There will be 25 super nodes in total.  If a node remains a super node for a full year, it will get 1.2 million VITE. With the initial staked amount of 500k VITE, the ROI is 240%.

+ Requirements on token staking (approx. USD $15k): On Vite TestNet, each node must stake at least 500k VITE (This requirement will be raised to 1 million for MainNet)  AND have received at least 200k votes to be eligible as a super node.

+ Additional benefits in operating full nodes and voting for official super nodes: Vite Labs will run at least 5 super nodes. All tokens generated by official super nodes will be allocated to our community. On an annual basis, 70% (4.2 million VITE) of these tokens will be rewarded to voters for Vite's official super nodes, and 30% (1.8 million VITE) will be rewarded to all full nodes.

+ Hardware requirements (less than $250/month): Recommended: 8-core CPU, 16GB memory and 100Mbps bandwidth. Higher system demands may be required when transaction volume increases.

Product Ecosystem

Real-world Payment Experience. Vite’s platform offers feeless transactions with ultra-fast confirmations performed entirely on-chain. Although our ledger structure is inspired by Nano’s block-lattice, we have built upon their technology to improve performance, enhance security, and maximize throughput. With our improvements, we would like to build a larger and more active Vite-powered payment network than that of Nano’s.

Easy One-Click Token Issuance. Issuing tokens on Vite’s public chain does not require smart contract writing, thus greatly reducing the risk of bugs. When a user decides to issue a new token on Vite, all they need to do is initiate a transaction. The transaction then puts the new token parameters in the transaction data and the new issued token will share the same underlying protocol as the Vite native coin.

Built-in Trading. Vite has a decentralized exchange (ViteX) that will not only be available on the web but will also be integrated with the Vite wallet app. ViteX features cross-chain gateways to allow multi-platform trading with rapid, on-chain order book matching and processing.

Easy dApp Development. With Vite’s SDK, developers will be able to easily build smart contract-powered dApps on the Vite platform while simultaneously enjoying the benefits of Vite’s high-performance network. Developers familiar with Solidity will be able to quickly adapt to Solidity++ and import former Solidity code with minor tweaks.


Real World Use Cases

Public sector. Vite has partnered with the government of the city of Syracuse to design a blockchain-based, peer-to-peer loan program for low-income housing residents.

Progress. Vite’s plan for the city of Syracuse has been approved and the mobile app (to be built entirely on the Vite platform) pilot project has been completed. Vite’s plan features a reward-based token system to not only incentive donation but also stimulate the local economy:

  • Donors will donate fiat into a city-wide donation pool that will be used as emergency funding for low-income housing residents.
  • Blockchain technology enables transparency and real-time tracking of the money flow in and out of the donation pool.
  • As a reward for donating, donors will receive tokens (SyraCoins) that they can then redeem for public & private sector services in Syracuse. For example, if Alice donates $10, she receives 10 SyraCoins, which she can then redeem for 10% off at her local hair salon.

Decentralized exchange. ViteX, a heavy-duty dapp built on Vite (released in July 2019) has the following advantages:

  • True decentralization: Thanks to ultra-fast transaction speed and zero fees in the Vite network, our DEX will feature on-chain order book and on-chain matching.
    • The traceability of the on-chain order book prevents cheating behavior by an exchange, such as fabrication of transaction prices and volumes, which has allowed exchanges to control the market, de-value futures contracts, and feign trading activity.
    • The on-chain matching prevents the exchange from front-running the customer in the order book, e.g., by inserting the exchange’s buy order in a bull market.
    • The aforementioned on-chain feature is enabled by, and difficult to implement without, the ultra-fast transaction speed of the Vite network. The zero fees remove the need for gas when making or canceling orders. Many DEX’s are semi-decentralized, where the order book and matching engine are off-chain due to performance and fee reasons as mentioned above.
  • Cross-chain gateway: We allow incompatible coins issued on different blockchains to be exchanged directly via our platform.  E.g., the exchange of BTC and ETH will be made possible on our DEX.

Payment with stablecoins. Vite is in the process of developing partnerships with various stablecoins in order offer a real-world payment experience combining stablecoin payments with Vite’s high-throughput payment infrastructure.

Progress. Vite has formed a strategic partnership with the Alchemy Foundation, a payment company in Asia specializing in acquiring crypto-accepting merchants. Vite also built an online swag store that exclusively accepts cryptocurrency in the form of Vite Community Points (a token issued on the Vite platform).

Prediction markets. Vite’s technology also enables the creation of prediction markets. A malicious centralized authority that runs such a market may cheat in distribution to the participants. Vite’s blockchain affords the decentralization, and hence transparency, that prevents such behavior.

Progress. More than ten prediction market apps featuring true randomization have been developed by the community and are available on our mobile wallets.


Progress-to-date and Milestones

Technology. Development of the Vite platform began in May 2018. In September 2018, we released our web, Android, and iOS wallet apps. By November 2018, we released a fully-functional Testnet operating on the block-lattice DAG ledger with the following features:

  • Token issuance and forging
  • Supernode voting capabilities
  • Staking-based TPS quota
  • Feeless transactions
  • Hierarchical dPOS consensus algorithm

Since the release of our Testnet, we have been regularly updating our platform and adding new features, including multi-token support, performance optimization, and multi-VM support. In April 2019 we released a beta version of our DEX for open public testing.  

We currently have 50 public Supernodes and 1500+ public nodes.

We released our Pre-Mainnet on May 21, 2019 with the Mainnet to come in Q3 2019. Our DEX went live in July 2019.

Community. As we were building out our technology, we also took the time to spread awareness of our project and build a community around our project. We are very active on social media channels (Twitter, Discord and Telegram) and run regular campaigns to engage our community members. We have over 35 community managers that support groups across all the major languages, including English, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Arabic, German, Turkish, Indonesian, Spanish, Malaysian and Filipino. Our Twitter following has grown organically to 9500+ and our English Telegram group alone has over 21,000 members.
