One rule: Never, ever, ever make me angry, which you are doing right now.

As for the readme, i read it...not much of an explanation there.

Also, it seems it's NOT using btcguild.

Looks like we've got an e-thug here, folks...

Code:
[19:26:47] RPC request [[]] submitted to mtred
Error in json decoding, Server probably down

[19:26:47] Server change to arsbitcoin, telling client with LP
[19:26:47] LP Call arsbitcoin.com:8344/LP
[19:26:47] RPC request [[]] submitted to arsbitcoin

I can't submit to mtred. Anybody else?

I'm getting the "error in json decoding" but it appears I'm submitting shares to mtred

mtred got a block you should be there

Thanks-  I just looked and that's where I am.

Is there anything worth hopping at the moment?
5  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: bitHopper: Python Pool Hopper Proxy on: July 18, 2011, 03:10:59 PM
Just to be sure-  it sounds like bitp.it has countermeasures making them unsuitable for hopping?

I must be missing something... I grabbed the latest git-  setup the accounts I have in password.py, commented out a couple of the pools in pools.py that I don't have accounts for and when I run it, I don't see any errors but it only seems to be mining to eligius.

This is what my run looks like:

Code:
[root@localhost c00w-bitHopper-8324470]# python bitHopper.py
[13:27:13] RPC request [] submitted to BTC Guild
[13:27:13] mtred :2319433
[13:27:13] Server change to eligius, telling client with LP
[13:27:13] pool.bitp.it :1315972
[13:27:13] btcguild :3773677
[13:27:13] RPC request [] submitted to eligius
[13:27:13] btcguild efficiency: 41.2121798097%
[13:27:13] LP Call su.mining.eligius.st:8337/LP
[13:27:13] bitp.it efficiency: 118.788564677%
[13:27:13] bitcoin.lc :5764834
[13:27:13] RPC request [] submitted to eligius
[13:27:15] RPC request [] submitted to eligius

... followed by ongoing eligius entries.

What am I missing?

Pool hopping is nothing but an automated way of doing what people tend to do anyway:  move to a different pool when it isn't making money like you want.  I think the operator of that pool has a negative view of it for whatever reason and this was an opportunity to "fight back"

I appreciate him reconsidering what I think was a bad call, even though there was nothing forcing him to do so.  I also appreciate him being big enough to reverse himself in public which is very tough to do sometimes.

He claims to have opened the account so that something can be withdrawn.

Hopefully Nick will have time to withdraw it quickly, even if its not much.

Account reactivated, stop whining now - I have more important things to do.
I'm not sure his balance is correct tho, but a couple of btc is it.

Thank you for your understanding.  I know everyone with a few bitcents in that account appreciate your reconsideration.

I didn't "manually" confiscated his account nor "stole" any funds, we just disabled the account due to the excessive hopping.
I do not have time, nor want to - enable it again.

I think of hopping as a way to earn "undeserved" funds, i think all users of my pool agree on my decision regarding this - due to the fact that those funds will still stay on the site and be allocated to users.

Feel free to send any thoughts on this matter to info@bitlc.net.
Comments in here are both a waste of mine and your time - I've got bigger things to take care of.

So for now, please calm down and send an e-mail if you have anything on your mind.

If you had a problem with hopping and were subject to close down accounts based on it, you should have posted that ahead of time.  You're changing the rules after the fact and that is unethical.

You have removed the ability for them to be retrieved by their rightful owner and you are willfully refusing to spend ten seconds to make them available.  I'm not sure what to call that if not theft.

I would ask you to reconsider.  You don't have to.  No one can force you to.  You are perhaps within your right to do as you wish, but this is not a big deal for you and it would be trivial for you to fix and satisfy the people that it affects who already agreed not to hop in your pool anymore.  What do you lose by simply restoring access so that the earnings can be withdrawn?  Its no meaningful amount to your users.

I mined at multiclone and a substantial number of my shares went to bitcoins-lc.

Hopping is mining in pools with a fresh block trying to catch short blocks and giving up when a block is taking longer than you want to solve.  There nothing evil or wrong about it.  Its no different than someone moving to another pool because it is taking forever to hit a block and no coins are being made.  Is there a policy somewhere that says you have to stay in the pool for long blocks and you can't give up on them even if the pool is having bad luck?  I haven't seen it.  That's all hopping is, folks.

I'm 100% OK with a pool operator saying "We do not want pool hoppers here.  We define pool hopping as X.  If we detect X, we will close your account.  I didn't see that.  I certainly didn't see anything that said "and we also reserve the right to confiscate any of your earnings at any time".

If you can just confiscate earnings for any reason you want, what other reasons should we be concerned about?

I fully support your right to warn and ban users.  Banning users without warning and imposing a 100% fine on earnings is hard to excuse.

I hope you will reconsider.
12  Bitcoin / Pools / Bitcoins-lc steals your earnings on: July 11, 2011, 03:19:22 PM
So is there a figure you can share for the total amount that Bitcoins-lc stole from this pool so that we'll know how pissed to be?

13  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: multiclone.us.to on: July 11, 2011, 12:32:32 PM
So that bitcoins-lc basically stole the money.  Nice.  I think we need a thread about that issue just to bring light to the fact that they are reserving the right to steal your money as they see fit.

Nick- I appreciate everything you've done.  I know you were just trying to help other folks that couldn't get it running and its turned into a bit of a burden.  I speak only for myself in saying that I'd be OK with whatever you come up with.

At this point, I expect that Nick is sorry he offered his copy of Multicoin for others to use...  Smiley

Arsbitcoin is another SMPPS pool like eligius.   I like eligius as a backup but they have had a lot of issues staying online for more than a day or so at a time.
That was with failing hardware. Seems to be stable since getting Su up and running.

It sure has improved.  Great work!

Eligius is a great pool to mine in.

Anyone capable of working out the pools.conf entry for arsbitcoin?

How about an entry to point your local multipool at multiclone?  Smiley

Thanks for the clarification nick.  I looked at some of the other rewards code and can appreciate that its not going to be a five minute job.

18  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Multipool - the pool mining pool (with source code) on: July 07, 2011, 05:45:54 PM
Interestingly enough, I notice that my local copy of multipool was having a problem a short while ago.  I wonder if one of the pools did something that freaked it out.  Anyone else running it experience a prob?
19  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Multipool - the pool mining pool (with source code) on: July 07, 2011, 03:07:48 PM
I also used a new utility function with a constant utility since eligius now uses SMPPS instead of proportional rewards.  It should be the default if all other pools have a lower utility.

edit...

so a new function that just returns the same utility all the time?

What number did you decide on?

I got my payment yesterday for the shares that are showing as earned.  The pending stuff is still pending.
