101  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dumb-ass BitPay Suspending Bitcoin donations to Hong Kong Free Press on: September 12, 2019, 06:30:51 AM
But why do Hong Kong Free Press use Bitpay in the first place?
There are many local exchanges including some OTC ones in Hong Kong.
They shouldn't have problems changing BTC to local fiat in Hong Kong.
102  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can Trump liberate Hong Kong from China?. on: September 10, 2019, 06:48:15 AM
That sounds like whether emperor Xi could free Julian Assange from UK&US persecution to me.
You guys are just too young too simple, sometimes naive.

Well despite seeming so ridiculous, Tsar Putin do provide shelter for Edward Snowden in Russia.
So I should not count the probability of Trump liberating Hong Kong or Xi freeing Julian Assanage to pure zero.

However I guess after HK being liberated by US, Bitmex,Binance and Bitfinex would have no choice but add Hong Kong to their no trading service region list next to US.
103  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Interesting Graffiti in Sheung Wan Hong Kong on: September 10, 2019, 02:29:50 AM
Can you give reasons for your conclusion. I agree, Capitalism is a bull shit

I am merely reporting what the poster said. What I concluded is who the poster may be.

I never think all types of capitalim are shit.

But I do agree that the capitalism in China is the worst or maybe second worst variety in the world.

I call this interesting bcz I haven't expected seeing anarchism in Hong Kong protest.
104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoiners in Hong Kong protests? on: September 10, 2019, 02:20:27 AM
The protest continues. I believe it's time for Hong Kong Bitcoiners to join the crowd, and make their own banners, and chant, "Buy Bitcoin, and HODL". Hahaha.

Quote

HONG KONG —  It took Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam 13 weeks to withdraw the extradition bill that sparked the city’s summer of unrest. But her announcement failed to stop the protests for even one night.
Demonstrators have continued to rally, march, clash with police and, on Sunday, wave American flags while singing the U.S. national anthem in an appeal for help from Washington.

“Resist Beijing, liberate Hong Kong! Sanction China, now or never! Pray for U.S., pray for us!” chanted tens of thousands of protesters who marched to the U.S. Consulate on Sunday afternoon in a call for Congress to pass legislation that would strengthen U.S. support for democratization and human rights in Hong Kong.

Looks very close to BREXIT.  Grin

They already banned BTC in the past. Don't you think Its going to raise an alarm to the government and will cause the crash again if they once again bann?

Bitcoin is never banned in Hong Kong.  Huh Huh Huh Did you confuse it with mainland China?
If I remember correctly, bitmex and bitfinex both locate in Hong Kong.
105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoiners in Hong Kong protests? on: September 10, 2019, 02:04:51 AM
With Google translate? Cool

I can read Chinese so I never bother using it.
But sometimes I use it to translate Japanese into English so I can learnt another point of view from Japan.
I think it is not bad.
However some of my friends using it to translate Japanese into Chinese claim it sucks Huh Huh Huh

End can never justify the means.
If people don't stick to this principle, after overthrowing an asshole, they just put another group of motherfuckers in power or the freedom fighters themselves turn into bad guys.
That is the exact lesson learnt from Iran Revolution in 1979.

That's true, but maybe Bitcoin can help as a neutral-money for donations in case the government is giving the protesters a difficult time. Freezing bank accounts perhaps?

I don't think protesters in Hong Kong need a neutral-money, they just need US dollars.
Remember the scene that crowds of protesters weaving US flags?
So naive to ask the govt who persecuted Julian Assange world wide to free them.
106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoiners in Hong Kong protests? on: September 06, 2019, 09:10:45 AM
True. Hongkongers should be grateful China shows respect when they could just cut the lines and force their power over Hongkong. If it weren't for the one country two system agreement, these protest could have ended in just a day.

The people in China has much respect to their government that they look at it as their father and do as what their father says. Technically Hongkong is part of China whether they like it or not China will take over Hongkong sooner but this protest has been prolonged too much that I think is funded to weaken China's economy.

They should not. China shows respect only bcz by doing so their leaders' gain is far more than loss.
Quite a few high ranking CCP leaders actually want Hong Kong to remain a city of libertarian capitalism so their agents in Hong Kong can happily launder their money collected from corruptions and covert it into USD.
I.E.  http://www.ejinsight.com/20140703-pro-beijing-media-quotes-rumor-of-xu-caihou/

Of course. A country under a nationwide strike/protest would be a state of national emergency, and would require international intervention.

But the protests lasting since July is impressive. Next protests, maybe Bitcoiners should raise their arms in support.

Emmmm, I am a bitcoiner. But I won't raise arms to help those protests.
Since June, I have seen so many lies and much violence made by both sides that I would support neither.

End can never justify the means.
If people don't stick to this principle, after overthrowing an asshole, they just put another group of motherfuckers in power or the freedom fighters themselves turn into bad guys.
That is the exact lesson learnt from Iran Revolution in 1979.

BTW, can you read Chinese?

Capitalism is shit.CCP is capitalist.

I guess the post is an anarcho-syndicalist or anarcho-socialist.
But he or she can't be an anarcho-capitalist.
108  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Treasury Blacklists Bitcoin, Litecoin Addresses of Chinese ‘Drug Kingpins’ on: September 03, 2019, 02:52:20 AM
There is really no such thing as tainted bitcoins, those bitcoins are just as valuable as new ones.

Are you saying that the fungibility of bitcoin is good enough so that no further upgrade towards fungibility is needed?
109  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Interesting Interview With Chinese Billionaire Exile Guo Wengui on: August 30, 2019, 03:12:24 AM
Was it China or Russia that they say companies had a direct phone line to the communist government and the government would simply ring it if they are going out of line or something.

This is just basically what many people have been talking about. The CCP have no check and balance and very little input from the public. If America can act badly even with these restraints, just imagine what an unhindered "emperor" would do (Xi purged the party and removed term limits).

Honestly I'd assume both.

Both countries operate in this very weird sphere where capitalism is allowed, but only if you're willing to work with the government in question. If not, you're going to be arrested (on some random crime) and removed from power. Then you'd be replaced with someone who is willing to work within the confines of the government.

Horrible, but that's the system they've built over there.

I would rather call this bureaucratic capitalism where the high ranking bureaucratic officers be the true top capitalists.

Besides: Communist Party in Russia has been out of office since year 1991. Calling Vladimir Putin's govt a communist one looks quite odd.
110  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Andrew Yang and Blockchain (Forbes- article) on: August 30, 2019, 03:01:02 AM
He says that if elected he want to implement a blockchain-based mobile voting system, I don't really think it's still feasible
not because we lack the technology, it's already here; but there is still too many technology illiterates out there.

he's economically illiterate himself (democrats often are)

he claims to support Bitcoin (hard money)

yet he also supports giving away free money (inflationary)

hard money and price inflation cannot co-exist, he's either an idiot or trying to send mixed messages deliberately

He claims to support Bitcoin(hard money)
He also supports giving away free fiat(inflationary of coz)
Hard money and fiat price inflation do co-exist.

Jack Dorsey Donated to him.
Sometimes I think Mr Dorsey may hope Yang and his UBI fvck up USD benefiting Bitcoin as a result.
111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright is official a fraud on: August 29, 2019, 07:44:31 AM

what i have read on news sites the judge actually explicitly have declared that the court was not to even decide whether he is Satoshi or not, the court was not even supposed to estimate how much bitcoin he may or may not own.
this last part is actually part of my confusion specially since the court's decision was to order him to give "half" of what he owned but at the same time they don't specify how much is the total to give half of it!

That's exactly how faketoshi could be sent to jail potentially by refusing to tell the court how much he owns.
He could say that he is unable to tell but it is the court to decide the credibility of his words.
112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Make bitcoin mining great again on: August 29, 2019, 02:31:18 AM
What if Nvidia and AMD started building rigs and pools using their own GPU, would you guys begin whining ban GPU mining then?

This question also applies to Intel and AMD with their CPU.

Totally wrong direction of the solution.
113  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Andrew Yang and Blockchain (Forbes- article) on: August 29, 2019, 02:21:52 AM
He is just showing his positive attitude towards blockchain tech.
He wants suppots from those silicon valley entrepreneurs.
114  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Interesting Interview With Chinese Billionaire Exile Guo Wengui on: August 28, 2019, 08:36:37 AM
Well, in China a country ruled by CCP few people become billionaires without cooperating with CCP and doing dirty work for corrupted CCP officers.

I won't give RogerVer or JihadWu much credit even after their divorce with faketoshi.
115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In what way bitcoin gets increased usage? on: August 28, 2019, 04:17:23 AM
By some centralised second layers controlled by big companys.

What I refer is definately not lightning for it is a decentralised second layer.

Curently what most people want is to be slaves while thinking they are embracing freedom.
116  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Treasury Blacklists Bitcoin, Litecoin Addresses of Chinese ‘Drug Kingpins’ on: August 26, 2019, 07:29:43 AM
Why don't they simply use whitelist strategy other than blacklist?
117  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you believe stolen funds should be returned to their owner? on: August 23, 2019, 02:09:20 AM
Of course yes!
But I also believe that the correct method should be like this: find out who the thief is, then use $5 wrenches to beat him until he returns the funds.

Then who should be responsible for carrying out those operations mentioned above?

My answer is the one who is responsible for the funds which means if you keep the funds in your own wallet then it is youreslf, else if you keep the funds in exchanges, then it should be the exchanges.
118  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should Andrew Yang Give Everyone Unlimited Money? on: August 21, 2019, 09:17:53 AM
So I'll say it to you again until it enters your brain (if that doesn't work, do come and live here):

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

What if the successful chance of teaching one to fish is only 15%?
Let the rest 85% die of starvation?

Why i don't believe in UBI? It doesn't level the playing field, it doesn't give people a "second chance". Those that desperately need it will spend it right away. Does that don't, will actually invest it and hopefully become richer, so at the end of the day, you did nothing. You fed a few poor for some days, and helped the rich become richer. This is very similar to inflation.

State intervention usually makes things worse, not better. Again theory and reality are worlds apart. Get a good economy running and everyone can fed by themselves. Deflation is part of the solution, read Mises and the Austrian economists for the answer.

(Well fed) socialists always have well intentions (well most always), but alas the humans don't behave as they should... "Because the system made them so", but the "New Man" proposed by Che Guevara never comes.

Well I do think that the so-called UBI doesn't solve the problem in the end either. But I think it can at least buy sometime for the true solution before most poor turn to some other kind of socialism.

An anarcho-capitalist surely could understand state interventions are always bad, but how could you persuade others who have the right to vote?
119  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should A Bar Be Forced By The Government To Give A Pregnant Woman Alcohol? on: August 20, 2019, 01:21:54 PM
My opinion is no one should be forced..

A pregnant woman should be free to buy alcohol.
While in the mean time a bar should be free whether sell it to her or not.

120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Happy 2nd Anniversary, SEGWIT! on: August 20, 2019, 04:09:50 AM
All non-mining nodes do nothing more than relay blocks,
only mining nodes include transactions and only mining nodes validate,
since validation only occurs by the addition of new blocks after the older blocks, something non-mining nodes can't do.

Turn off all the mining nodes and your non-mining nodes does what when it can't relay, it does nothing but sit there.
Turn off all non-mining nodes and no one gives a shit.

As all non-mining nodes including the ones belonging to all the exchanges, miners' deposit to exchanges won't get confirmed unless those exchanges are stupid enough to trust others' nodes.

Then what do miners pay for the bill for electricity without fiat provided by exchanges?

Well, miners themselves are not too stupid to recognise the true bosses behind.
That's why Jihad Wu resigned from Bitmain and started Matrixport in July this year.

Interesting note, if you ever deal with an exchange and your deposit or withdrawal has an issue,
the 1st thing they ask is what is the transaction id and what block explorer is the coin using.

They then check the public block explorer verses their own records,
but at the end of the day they have to follow the public block explorer even if it differs from their node.
So they are trusting other nodes (Block Explorer) more than their own node. Smiley

FYI:
Non-mining nodes only relay data, and you may use it to verify receipt of transactions.
But you can also verify receipt of transactions at public block explorers , which you have to follow even if it differs from your own node.
Because if you don't accept the block explorer 3rd party verification of transactions, no one will use your exchange.  Wink
Many smart people , just verify with multiple block explorers instead of wasting time / money running their own node.

Wait, hasn't nodes of block explorers been shut down under the circumstance you assumed?
