81  Economy / Lending / Small Loan Needed w/Collateral on: March 08, 2020, 08:44:29 PM
Hi, I’m a developer who’s just waiting to get paid for some work at the moment.  Although I’ve still got to eat! I have 12 ZNN (Zenon) worth about $18 and change right now.  I’m seeking a loan of $15 in BTC.  Feel free to contact me on telegram if you can fill this @khanjohnson. Thanks!

I am not a real fan of all these Alt coins specifically developed for a specific gaming platform. The reason is simple, because there are no real utility for these tokens, other than for being used within the game. Also, the game developers are pre-mining tokens to line their pockets with cheap tokens and not just to oil the system.  Roll Eyes

I cannot for the live of me understand why these game developers are ignoring the biggest market, namely Bitcoin to go for these non-exist Alt coins?  They can still have their in-game currency that can be bought with bitcoins.  Roll Eyes

Why should people have to trade in and out of Alt coins to eventually buy bitcoins to be able to use something to buy and trade with. Bitcoin has a huge merchant network too, so whatever you get from the game can be traded back to bitcoins and be used to buy at these merchants.

Players can buy in-game currency <for examples Crystals> from the game or trade for it with bitcoins with other players on a in-game market and then the game platform can take a percentage of that traded in-game currency, like they would have done at an exchange.

Better yet, skip the in-game currency and let people use the Lightning Network with almost instant transactions.  Roll Eyes

Tetra is a variable in the server code with a fixed exchange rate.  It’s the ability to “cash out” for the paired crypto (at a fixed rate) that gives it an inherent value.  I would love to use Bitcoin but that’s another discussion as hosting is a major cost factor.  Smaller altcoins usually have developer funds and a more engageable community.  Two things any new projects needs to succeed.

Some good feedback here, as mentioned I think focusing on the game does help a lot but I hoped to get out ahead of it in a sense.  Primarily, as someone else mentioned, in order to gauge potential exploits.

Thanks for the input, yeah I think the best way to put it is that I have enough crypto to pay out for Tetra. At least for now.  And that the exchange rate for the Tetra is only weighed against the dollar.  Definitely trying to take everything into consideration.
84  Economy / Economics / Blockchain Game Economics on: February 12, 2020, 09:06:24 PM
In my career I have found that studying virtual economies is a fun way to understand the ones we deal with everyday, in the real world.  Well over the past few weeks I have found myself faced with a project requiring a game economy to interface with a cryptocurrency in a way that makes sense.  There are some good ideas floating around this board so I am hoping to have some of you weigh in here.

Quick note, the game functions on top of a sort of social layer platform which is what people use to trade, chat, post on a forum etc.  Think Steam or Origin but with a focus on social features.

So the method I have decided to use requires the introduction of a pegged native game currency called Tetra (T).  The reasoning here being that it would require a lot more capital upfront to simply use the cryptocurrency itself as the primary mode of exchange.  As there would need to be a reserve available (that was purchased) to reward players with in the first place.

By creating a new game-issued currency I can "mint" the initial supply and use them to reward players.  But then how do they earn the actual crytocurrency? By swapping it for Tetra at a fixed rate.

Say 1000T(etra) had a value of one real USD and our cryptocurrency was worth $2 USD today and fluctuates based on real markets.  Well the player could always sell 1000 Tetras on an in-game exchange for 1USD worth of those cryptocoins (using the broader platform) then do whatever they want with them, including re-invest it back into the game for more Tetra.  But if Tetra is pegged, how will people earn more?  By trading based on the price of in-game goods which are dynamic and may cost more or less than the cost of Tetra.  All of these goods are effected by natural scarcity and other factors that are subject to what's happening in the game world.

Which is to say that eventually, even the people who are only in it to make money will at some point have to play the game.  Or "pay" people to do it for them if they want the markets to move.  They might be able to get to certain resources and own them for much less than they would if they just sat watching the markets. Bringing me to my next point, trade companies.

These organizations will function like corporations in Eve Online but with better organizational mechanics like being able to buy/sell digital equity in these groups that function themselves like DAO's within the system.  Rewarding "shareholders" and paying out in either cryptocurrency or Tetra on a case-by-case basis based on parameters voted on by the owners.

I forgot to mention that this whole time the developer (me) still needs to keep a crypto reserve on hand in case a player wants to make a trade into crypto. But that's OK because the starting economy will be so small (by design) with the crypto withdrawal limits being on the higher side.  For these i won't ever take fees.  But withdrawals to external wallets and ads may be considered for monetization.

There's more to it but that's the gist of it.  To recap, the game has a pegged native currency that can be used to buy and sell in-game goods only.  This native currency can also be sold for a cryptocurrency to be used on the games platform (think Steam or Origin) to buy perks there, withdraw to an external wallet or reinvested into Tetra.  And if you like game economics and organizing teams let me know via @KhanJohnson I could use your help!

In the future, Earth has been relegated to an overpopulated and corrupt refinery in an otherwise barren region of space by the galactic community. Primarily facilitating the transition of imported Tetrazite, an exotic deep space metal, into Zenon (ZNN) — the interstellar standard. A currency used by every civilization in the known universe.

Weak governments and social upheaval has ushered in an age of dystopianism. A world in which monopolistic corporations make the rules. Having normalized space travel with advancements in genetic engineering and propulsion, humanity set out to champion the frontier in hopes of discovering a new purpose.

Click here to read an overview about this project on Medium.  I am currently looking for partners to help seed this project and double as consultants in regard to further expanding this project on to blockchain and potentially turning our platform-based pegged token into a standalone currency.  Feel free to get in touch via telegram @KhanJohnson if interested.

Zenon is being adopted by Apsis Online for the next major release, V5.  This was done as Zenon simply worked with my backend and is a good fit thematically. Details in regard to the integration can be found here

less work and already built community

Bingo.  This is simply the bottom line here and as a developer I only see these kinds of takeovers as a good opportunity to expand my crypto tech to new chains.  The trick is low risk, some reward.  If it works out and the community is behind the work I’m doing then I have an audience.  I could roll my own coin or something but the overhead on that is immense especially upfront.

There are at least 100+ players in your niche. Why do you think you'll be able to stand out in the crowd?

As a suggestion, I'll say add Crypto tipping on forum, which will attract crowd in general.

In regard to your suggestion, you would think so, but I’ve been building out features like that for years on similar platforms. But I’m also not web-based yet.  Anyway as mentioned I’m one of those 100+ competitors but with crypto tipping, so we should talk. Hit me up on Telegram if anything @KhanJohnson

GiantBBS is a new anonymous messageboard and marketplace for the command-line that is currently using Giantcoin as its primary supported currency.  More details coming soon, but if you are interested in testing feel free to shoot me a message @KhanJohnson on Telegram.
95  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Developing a New Bitcoin Marketplace on: November 17, 2019, 07:54:25 PM
Alright so here’s what I’ve got.  I’m calling it Giant BBS because it will be a constantly-expanding, modern take on the bulletin board systems of yesteryear.  The name is also a homage to its first supported cryptocurrency, Giantcoin, based on the GIANT platform.  Which is not at all an endorsement although I wish it was since I can’t even afford to host this thing on a cheap VPS.  So if the devs see this, let’s talk!

That said I am still working on supporting more coins which I’ve gotten down to just picking the best projects I can find right off Cryptoslate and throwing Sentinel at the tech. GIANT was first solely because it was the easiest to integrate and that’s just giving credit where it’s due.

I’ll be posting a link to the github from grabbing the client at some point soon.

Here’s a screenshot of the new home screen.

I can be contacted via @KhanJohnson on Telegram if interested in being a tester or contributing in some other way.

The only thing left to do is roll an interface for withdrawals/deposits and reintroducing the marketplace parameters to the codebase.   Feedback welcome, and more updates to come!

Bash but I’ve actually managed to figure it all out.  The step after was to see how easy it was to “add” coins to the platform which went magnitudes better than I expected.  I can say now that it could support a great number of coins provided that they are derivatives of Bitcoin Core. I don’t have the stamina to figure out how to play well with the others (like ETH, Waves etc) yet.  Now I’m just working on tightening things up a bit.

I’m testing everything by using coins with small chains right now to keep things lean and predictable.  So far we’ve got a wallet system that works well. More info on transactions later.

Also I get the feeling that people think this thing looks like your typical boring CLI-app.  This does at least have a pretty robust TUI that I’ll share in a bit.

I have an idea that I want to run by some of you.  Anyone here especially good with the linux command line? I could use your help with my implementation of the bitcoin address system.  May post an update as early as tonight with the link to a build for those interested.

Patatas, I used C99 and R scripts for scraping on the server side on multiple threads and it’s a single command executable.  The fun part was writing the tools which are more focused on tuning parameters regarding the moderation bot and tracking uptime etc.  I call it Sentinel because of how it just sits there chugging away at processing web data while being  able to hold down the fort too.  Again, admittedly built to be more versatile than secure but I’m working on it.
98  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Developing a New Bitcoin Marketplace on: November 12, 2019, 05:12:27 AM
I am open to all possible options right now so long as it protects the integrity of the project.  In the event of any kind of ICO I’d want to at least tie that into an actual launch.  Even if its some kind of open beta since, for the record, I don’t have much trust for those myself unless I can use the product almost immediately.  The platform as it stands does work and is useable, has been for some time now and is indeed open to anyone who wants to try it out.  You’ll have to contact me directly though.

I have also been struggling with the idea of it being open source.  Plainly put, there are a lot more use-cases for the tech outside of crypto and even now I’m torn as to whether this is something I should continue to pursue in the context of this space/industry due to the aforementioned regulations among other issues.

Interesting Idea. The current MVP uses command-line correct? How does one go about configuring the IP and other network services to not expose any of the data to your command-line client? Can I get to test your project if it just involves downloading the client or forking the project and running it locally? How efficiently tunelling and stuff have been configured?

Correct! There’s admittedly a lot more to be done on on the security front but two concepts underpin how things are being handled at the moment, obfuscation and encryption.  I’m super open to digging into things like tunneling going forward.  Another thing I simply avoid with the client is collecting much if any information at all.  The mentality there is you simply “can’t get what I ain’t got”
99  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New Bitcoin Marketplace on: November 08, 2019, 03:50:20 PM
Update: price analysis has been worked out but there’s still plenty of room for growth in expansion of the overall idea.  For example, there’s no real advantage to using Bitcoin over a coin built specifically for the platform considering the lack of a solid and useable C API. So everything as it stands has been written from scratch. Although I’m still willing to support Bitcoin as the primary trading option I’d like to potentially explore rolling our own, provided I can find strategic partners and/or the right investors willing to go down that path.

Speaking of business development. I have managed to find a sponsor to host the project on a fairly slow but functional test server but access will remain limited for the time being. Until I can work out a way to finance something better.  I’ll be working on some documentation for all this today in my spare time . Feel free to contact me on Telegram @KhanJohnson if interested.
