7782  Other / Beginners & Help / YouTube’s sleazy decline into scam promotion on: October 14, 2020, 06:00:15 PM
Although, not only YouTube promote scam, all social media also promote scam, there was a scam I saw on Twitter today that requested me to pay certain amount of ether to be paid back double or more, thanks to Bitcointalk such can not happen to one of their members like me and fall for the scam, not possible. After, I decided to read crypto news on cointelegraph which has been my habit ever since I joined this forum. This is what I read, starting from the title above:

Last weekend, I was watching a sports stream on YouTube. Talented, fearless athletes on the screen, a glass of wine in one hand and a purring cat under the other — you know, those perfect Saturday evenings. If only the stream didn’t keep being interrupted every few minutes by annoying ads. They usually come in a series of two advertisements played in a row, which can be skipped after five seconds. Just as I was thinking about subscribing to a paid version to free myself from learning more about flying detergents, half-eaten donuts, striped snickers and the best tampons ever, I saw the following:

“To verify your address, just send from 0.5 to 200 ETH to the address below and get from 1 to 400 ETH (x2 back).”

This tired old proposition, which would offend anyone even slightly acquainted with the world of crypto technology (my grandmother included), was accompanied by a video interview with Binance’s Changpeng Zhao taken from what looks to be some Forbes event. The shot was unceremoniously adorned with Ethereum and Binance logos.

A conveniently ambiguous policy
If I want to publish a video of my little nephew dancing to a pop song, it risks being swiftly blocked for violating intellectual property rights. Is that fair? Possibly.

When an educational stream about cryptocurrencies is organized by Cointelegraph or a crypto vlogger, it risks being blocked for “harmful content,” which has happened several times this year so far. Ridiculous.

If people keep falling for fake Elon Musk giveaway scams offering Bitcoin (BTC) from innumerable fake accounts created specifically to deceive, it is not YouTube’s responsibility. OK, I totally agree; everyone needs to conduct their own research when making any investment decision. But no one seems to be responsible for the advertisements YouTube exposes its audience to either. Atrocious. The fact that the biggest video-hosting platform of our time shamelessly permits itself to promote scams is deeply unjust. This brings to mind the Roman expression of pecunia non olet — that money does not stink, regardless of whether it is generated via human waste or exploitative practices. Stink or not, an unpleasant aftertaste lingers and will not be easily forgotten.

With great influence comes great responsibility. Unfortunately, YouTube seems to ignore it.

7784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Former P&O Cruise Ship now named 'Satoshi' on: October 14, 2020, 02:28:10 PM

P&O Cruises Australia’s former cruise ship the Pacific Dawn has reportedly found a unique new life as a floating community permanently anchored in the Gulf of Panama.

A company called Ocean Builders that is also developing “floating, off-grid seapod homes,” has reported entered into a deal to acquire the once pioneering cruise ship. The ship, which was built in 1991 and operated most of its career with Princess Cruises and P&O Australia, is being sold by P&O’s parent company Carnival Corporation as they work to rationalize their fleet accelerating disposals due to the impact of the pandemic on the cruising.

According to Chad Elwartowski, COO of Ocean Builders and a key investor, the company is scheduled to take delivery of the cruise ship on November 4 in the Mediterranean. They are working with Columbia Cruise Services to take care of the management of the operations of the ship which will be renamed Satoshi. the name used for the smallest unit of bitcoin.

The crypto cruise ship is named Satoshi after Bitcoin’s (BTC) pseudonymous creator, with Elwartowski claiming the vessel will host restaurants, casinos, medical services and a water park. Satoshi will anchor in the Gulf of Panama, home to many crypto exchanges, and BTC will be accepted for all on-board purchases alongside U.S. dollars.

The first 200 of Satoshi’s 777 cabins will be sold via auctions scheduled for Nov. 5 to Nov. 28. The cabins are priced between $25,000 and $50,000. However, buyers must also pay ongoing monthly fees to acquire full ownership of the cabins. The cabins will be sold one deck at a time to give associated entrepreneurs the opportunity to purchase rooms adjacent to one another.

7785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin legit or not on: October 14, 2020, 10:33:39 AM
Its time to hear if bitcoin is legit or not!!
Yes, bitcoin is legit, so far you do not steal it, it is legit. So, the answer depends on what you think, if you think it is legit like fiat, then it is legit.

We Trust USA dollar because its Federal reserve are legit guys!!
So, that means scammers and thieves can not steal US dollar or any other fiat from you? No. Or, you mean US dollar and other fiats can not he used by scammers? No. Or, does that mean you are completely safe because you have fiat with you? No. If you think about it very well, you will realize bitcoin is legit, that thieves and scammers are the ones that are not legit but forbidden.

So is bitcoin good or not?
If fiats are used by scammers, and if scammers scam people and collect fiats from them, then is fiat legit? Governments will only be deceiving you people, but only people that have knowledge about bitcoin will know how legit bitcoin is. You do not have to depend on any person to hold your bitcoin for you, you can hold it yourself without anyone linking the funds to you, unlike fiats.
7786  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrency vs digital money issued by the state on: October 14, 2020, 07:36:57 AM
The governments are always trying to prove centralization is the best, but it should only be an alternative to decentralization, but the governments will not agree, I believe you read the latest news 'Data encryption a threat to fighting child sexual abuse, says DOJ'. Even, aside money, goverments want to compromise peoples privacy in all aspect of life to the extent they do not want end-to-end encryptions in this world that are full of scam, this is uncalled for in my view. Some people can share private information and if the platform used does not support end-to-end encryption, scammers can get hold of the information.

They are always thinking decentralization will be full of scam activities, but they are yet to deal with scams in banks, social media ans many centralized areas which habours scammers and scam activities, and yet trying to make sure decentralization will not exist. The worst part is that the information like kyc needed for anti money laundering and counter-terrorism financing which is forced to be required by centralized bodies through governmental policies are only leaked to scammers, which are used in the scamming people.

Centralization has failed us, it weakens us to think governments will protect our money, not knowing kyc are actually reviewed to scammers which are used in many ways to scam people. People have forgotten they were saving money before without the use of any bank, at that time, they were conscious of the ways to protect their money from thieves rather than when it is in bank and thinking nothing will happen until scam results, social media which is also centralized contribute more to this. Come to think of it, cryptocurrencies  like bitcoin can offer you the privacy in a way no thief will know about any bitcoin or altcoin linked to you, and in a way you can well protect your private key, which makes bitcoin safe from physical and digital thieves, only the requisite is to learn how to avoid scam.

Posting a topic requesting members to give merit(s) to another member here is wrong when there is a thread about it already on meta board created by Loyce. Lucius has given you the 100% answer and a link you can report the topic, merit sources do check the thread, even other member do check the thread, if the post your are referring to is worthy of merit, then, expect merit to be given to the post on the thread. I have reported many posts there before and of which most are merited.

I will suggest this thread to be lucked, imo, to avoid repeated replies.
7788  Other / Politics & Society / Re: UK to intentionally infect healthy people with covid for test purposes!!! on: October 13, 2020, 11:15:23 AM
It would be interesting to see how much the vaccinations weaken natural immunity. Obviously they can't enhance it, as healthy people can;t be infected.
I started a thread not quite long, it is about someone that was reported by doctor to be reinfected with covid-19, although, they said such case to be rear but the infection is more severe than before, although the person also survived it but it could be as a result of weakened immunity to the virus. If the second disease case can be worse than the first, what is going to happen to people that are vacinanted but likely to be infected with the disease with stronger symptoms. Check the course of the disease that happened to the guy I am referring to below:

25 March - First wave of symptoms, including sore throat, cough, headache, nausea and diarrhoea
18 April - He tests positive for the first time
27 April - Initial symptoms fully resolve
9 and 26 May - He tests negative for the virus on two occasions
28 May - He develops symptoms again, this time including fever, headache, dizziness, cough, nausea and diarrhoea
5 June - He tests positive for the second time, and is hypoxic (low blood oxygen) with shortness of breath

If it happens to be like this, vaccination will only weaken the immune system against the covid-19 reinfection. Although, this has only been noticed to happen to only one person, happening to masses has not be discovered. Immunity needs to be strong which will make this disease not to occur while we should also always focus on preventive measures.

Man get covid-19 twice and second hit more severe
A man in the United States has caught Covid twice, with the second infection becoming far more dangerous than the first, doctors report.
BBC News - Covid reinfection: Man gets Covid twice and second hit 'more severe'
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54512034

But, do not mind the news, although according to the scientist, the man was infected again but recovered and now healthy. You can check the full news on the BBC linked above.

Scientists say the patient caught coronavirus twice, rather than the original infection becoming dormant and then bouncing back. A comparison of the genetic codes of the virus taken during each bout of symptoms showed they were too distinct to be caused by the same infection. "Our findings signal that a previous infection may not necessarily protect against future infection," said Dr Mark Pandori, from the University of Nevada. "The possibility of reinfections could have significant implications for our understanding of Covid-19 immunity."

Preventive measures more important
He said even people who have recovered should continue to follow guidelines around social distancing, face masks and hand washing. Scientists are still grappling with the thorny issue of coronavirus and immunity. Does everyone become immune? Even people with very mild symptoms? How long does any protection last? These are important questions for understanding how the virus will affect us long-term and may have implications for vaccines and ideas such as herd immunity. So far, reinfection seems to be rare - there have been only a few examples out of more than 37 million confirmed cases.

Second round was assumed to be milder
It had been assumed that a second round of Covid would be milder, as the body would have learned to fight the virus the first time around. It is still unclear why the Nevada patient become more severely ill the second time. One idea is he may have been exposed to a bigger initial dose of the virus. It also remains possible that the initial immune response made the second infection worse. This has been documented with diseases like dengue fever, where antibodies made in response to one strain of dengue virus cause problems if infected by another strain. Prof Paul Hunter, from the University of East Anglia, said the study was "very concerning" because of the small gap between the two infections, and the severity of the second. Given the fact that to date over 37 million people have had the infection, we would have expected to have heard of many more incidents if such very early reinfections with severe illness were common. "It is too early to say for certain what the implications of these findings are for any immunisation programme. But these findings reinforce the point that we still do not know enough about the immune response to this infection."

I have visited Chipmixer before when I wanted to know more about what mixers are, I visited Chipmixer FAQ and it was educative, I learnt a lot from their site. Although, the way other mixers are working can be good, that is why the PDF in the OP will be very helpful, but I like the fact that some mixers helps users mixes bitcoin in a way already funded addresses with private keys are giving to the users, just like how it works on Chipmixer.

If someone want his transactions to be untraceable, using mixers are the best options, but we need to read very well about how the mixers we are using operate, as for me, if talking about bitcoin, chipmixer is the best and their FAQ is well explanatory.
7791  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Belgian investors lost $12M to crypto & forex scams last year by clicking on ads on: October 13, 2020, 08:19:34 AM
What do you think about the Brave browser on iOS? and MacOS? they claim that the browser is privacy oriented, but I have read both kinds of comments on these claims and I'm not really sure if it is a good choice or not.

Tor is great for privacy, of course, but as long as you don't enable Javascript it is quite inconvenient to use it as your everyday browser.
I am using Brave browser before, I was not using it for any reward or profit, I put on the shield and also turn the reward off, it actually block ads, but some members of this forum said brave is not good. And I come to think of it, some people will be burned to turn the reward on, if turned on, brave are directly selling your information to third party which is very dangerous. So, brave browser is not recommended.

I will only recommend three browsers which are firefox, especially the firefox focus, duckduckgo which is even the browser on tor, duckduckgo is highly recommended, and lastly is tor broswer, they are the best privacy browsers. For maximum privacy, tor broswer is the best but its internet connection is slower than the other two broswers.

I'm sorry but why were those victims didn't find those ads annoying? I'm sure that many of us here are very annoyed by those ads and will never click on them again
It is because we know about how malicious activities look like, that is why we are not clicking on the ads, ads be it legit or not, it should not be clicked upon.
7792  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Twitter hack: Be careful with your account as attacks are increasing on: October 13, 2020, 08:04:48 AM
Scammer are smart but unfortunately they are not smart enough to make money the right way. I don't think they have to do all of this, it would be much better if they were to promote themselves as creative and capable of doing more than anyone else to make money.
When scammers knows the world does not care how they make money, if they make money and not caught through scam means, no one will query them but people will respect them. Many people, especially the less priviledge are not having opportunities to make money like people that are rich, that is why many of them that are poor are found to scam. But, scam or no scam, scam is bad, not good in any way, we should try our best to avoid it.

But it seem they don't care about this, because I think they just want money no matter what harm for other people.
You are right about this, scammers do not care, even if victims will be depressed and die, I have read on news before about a woman in hospital that was attacked with ransonware, the woman needed emergency but died due to this. Scammers are deadly, that is why we need to be careful and do all we can to avoid them.
7793  Other / Politics & Society / Re: EndSARs: The movement for police reformed as a result of police brutality in NiG on: October 13, 2020, 07:33:14 AM
What are your take on this issue and how both the citizens and government can help resolve this problem causing discomfort among the youth of my country.
There is no other take on this than the Nigerian governments to desolve this deadly, blood sucking thives that are posing themselves as SARS. Normally, if cyber attackers have enough money to pay them, if they are paid, they will become the friend of the cyber attackers which we called Yahoo boys in Nigerian, but they are making life miserable for other citizens of the country. Even, the Nigerians in diaspora (abroad) are afraid to come home all because of this stupid SARS. I read a news about a Nigerian football that was extorted, how about celebrity child that was given car, all of them are being extorted by Nigerian SARS.

Nigeria itself is not making any sense, if the chairman of EFCC in Nigerian, Ibrahim Magu that is also tackling cyber attackers if found to embezzle millions of dollars and also seizing yahoo boys property and turning it into his own properties instead of governments property, is that a good leadership, it is just like thieves are collecting what thieves have already stolen from people. But SARS are worst, they also deal with innocents, it is not only about you having bitcoin transactions, they deal with anyone looking good and/or driving car.

SARS are wicked, as we heard federal government has desolved SARS, so shall in be, they were supposed to protect Nigerian citizens but they are not, killing harmless Nigerians that carry no gun or any harmful weapons. If you request for it, there are pictures of harmless Nigerians this SARS has killed, I can search for it online and post it here. They are life threaten, and they are no more wanted by Nigerians.

There was a friend I know that traveled to Ekiti (a state in Nigeria), this deadly SARS detained him, he is completely innocent but detained because he is looking good, he was unable to attend the marriage ceremony he came for all the way from Lagos and was detained in SARS custody, he was proving stubborn before he realized nothing could be done than to pay this threats (SARS) money. If they are not desolved, they will become more out of hand because they are already out of hand. All I wish them is hell because hell is a perfect place for thieves like Nigerian SARS.

I do often think of it before, that if a hacker is trying to attack my Bitcointalk account, that it will be difficult for me to know, although I have signed a message using my Bitcointalk account and also make use of another user's account to quoted the signed message, but this can only help during when someone's account has been comoromised already, so to avoid account to be comoromised, what OP posted will be effective. As I clicked on the link given above, I was surprised to see my logs for certain duration of time, it is amazing, the OP post is very useful. Checking our logs daily will be good and recommended.

But, in addition, something always pop up on my mind, it will be good if admin can help us to let this forum to support 2 FA, this also can be an effective protection, having my Bitcointalk account on one device, and enable the 2FA app on another device will also help, to totally avoid hackers.
7797  Other / Politics & Society / Re: people dont understand vaccine trial dates on: October 12, 2020, 03:23:22 PM
c. if the vaccine does/doesnt cause and long term adverse illness/reaction
    (should get results 6months-2 years)
That means 2022 should be the perfect time for the phase 3 trial to be completed?

But do you think that will stop them from giving us the vaccine? With the amount of money invested, these vaccines will be marketed, even though the danger of the virus will have diminished considerably by then. Some countries may make it mandatory to get the vaccine, or they may ask you to get it for certain things, such as travel.
Nothing will stop them from giving the vaccines to the public world wide in order to enrish their pocket, but many people would have been infected and would have developed immune response naturally. But, no matter what, most of the vaccines would have passed the phase 3 by the middle of next year, 2021 or fourth quarter of next year and will be availabe to the public.

7798  Other / Beginners & Help / Belgian investors lost $12M to crypto & forex scams last year by clicking on ads on: October 12, 2020, 09:24:25 AM
Although, this is a crypto and forex scam in Belguim, the scammers are making use of malicious platforms to scam victims by using fake advertisements on social media featuring pictures of celebrities, directing them to provide information to bad actors. The scammers lured victims to invest high amount, they will also try to persuade victim to let them take control of the victim's computer remotely so to be able to make certain payment, promising high yield return. It is also etimated that fraudulent platforms offering investments in binary options, foreign exchange market products, and contracts for differences, it may represent a surge in the number of crypto fraud cases across Belgium.

Belgian authorities have taken preventive measures to tackle the problem. In February, the FSMA blacklisted more than 140 crypto-related fraudulent websites. However, the FPS estimated that investors in Belgium typically lose about $152 million to such scams each year, with most incidents going unreported.

Losses due to crypto scams are on the rise in Belgium.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/belgian-investors-lost-12m-to-crypto-and-forex-scams-over-the-summer

Although, according to cointelegraph, all these happened in Belgium, but I brought it here because it can happen in any country of the world. I blame people because they do not realize while they should have their privacy on the internet, why they should not also be clicking on ads be it legit or not, but ignorance is hard to deal with. Second, we should more put the blame on platforms advertising ads, google and social media are all at the front advertising these ads, which are not well monitored but helping scammers to advertise their ads too. Thirdly, blaming the governments should not be excluded, they are the first and most to be blamed, they are only trying to reduce what has been done and affected people, they do not like to prevent something from happening, due to the money these companies are paying the governments, governments allow them to be monetizing their sites, apps and search engines with ads which many of it are from scammers.

But if we can not control the government to enforce tight laws and regulations against the companies advertising, like, google, social media, and other companies displaying ads, we should help ourselves to have online privacy and not clicking on ads.

People, stop clicking on ads, they are more than deadly and be careful of scammers.

https://roll.urown.net/server/bitcoin/electrum-server.html
Electrum Server listens on TCP ports 50001 and 50002 for incoming connections. Port 50001 is for plain unencrypted connections and port 50002 is TLS encrypted. We allow only secured connections on IPv4 and IPv6.

But, with what I have noticed, server used to query history are of port 50002 , which is encrypted, although, it is based on what I have noticed on electrum wallet. You can also set the server not to change automatically.

You have well been answered, using VPN will be the best option, to make it safe, paid VPN like ExpressVPN are better, using free VPN can create more risks than you can possibly think.

If you have gone through a thread on this forum before on the meta board, started by Tomatocage, you will be able to know the reason why we are signing a message. If you have used an address to sign a message before and post it on the thread, it will be good for another member to quote it with another account, so if your Bitcointalk account is compromised by hackers, you can be able to recover back your account if you prove the ownership of the address you signed, by using the same address to sign another message that can be verified. That means you have not done this yet, look for the thread on meta and sign a message, post it there and ask anyone to help you quote it.
