1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Writing a Bitcoin exchange on: March 16, 2013, 03:10:29 PM
I am planning on writing a European Bitcoin exchange for my Computer Science final year project.
The exchange will allow for a much larger variety of products such as swaps/forwards/options against other currencies (USD/BTC, EUR/BTC, GBP/BTC etc).
It will also allow for setting stop losses and (hopefully) the option to short.

Having not done any development work with Bitcoin in the past I was wondering if you could point me towards any useful documentation/ suggestions that could help me plan my implementation.
What hurdles will I need to be wary of?

I am looking forward to starting this exciting new project! Smiley

Sending 50BTC now, we'll see how this goes...

"Any amount greater than 10BTC will not be doubled.
Amounts less than 0.05 will not be doubled as too small and treated as donation!"

Wouldn't go too well for you so don't do that!

Why are scammers so stupid. This guy could have kept playing until someone sent him 10+ BTC. Instead he just runs with 1.

a) this is a game, everyone fully understands the risks/gains involved.
b) this game will go on for days/weeks, just because I didn't double within 2minutes doesn't mean I'm not doubling!

I want to play a little game, it's pretty simple, this is how it works.

I propose that I will double any Bitcoins sent to my address using *magic* or whatever...

This is a game of *trust*. Obviously I can run away after the first few Bitcoins you send me, but where would the fun be in that?

Let's see who loses first!

Game Begin: 18:00 EST
The game will continue for days/weeks.

This address please: 1HNffyHktcD2iB6WJhPxKbALJdg4dwerTG

Any amount greater than 10BTC will not be doubled.
Amounts less than 0.05 will not be doubled as too small and treated as donation!

This transaction indicates that BitMofo owns address 1CyKTdcEHjWtD9FuamThfQA2cjbHvYQnzy
Then later BitMofo claims "Another doubled" sending 4 BTC to 1CyKTdcEHjWtD9FuamThfQA2cjbHvYQnzy

So the 4 BTC was just sent by BitMofo to himself.

I suspect that the lie was necessary to get the ball rolling, but it makes me wonder just how many more of the supposed doubles were "priming the pump" or sock-puppets.  Still hoping for mine to get doubled, but starting to think I'll have to write off my contribution.
Unless it was a double back to the same person?
- Max sends 1 BTC
- BitMofo sends 2 BTC back
- Max sends 2 BTC
- BitMofo sends 4 BTC back
I don't think so. Take a look at the posts:

Max sends 0.5 BTC from 1gdphm to BitMofo at 13plh
https://blockchain.info/tx-index/23573404/846d84f010b61c69996387d56ed1241c967d5476c5a04c469bf092d757162c06
Debit: -0.50 BTC

Then BitMofo sends 1 BTC from 1cyktdc back to Max at 1gdphm
https://blockchain.info/tx-index/23575563/4ed0269f3ed3d0131b474c7b33fde43bdf869b46c102494a7e7176cf52874c57
Doubled.

Then BitMofo sends 4 BTC to 1cyktdc claiming another double
https://blockchain.info/tx-index/23579274/d23b8ec28b10902d5882acc6e2a96418698fa571032bfa459ba417f9929a4e04
Another doubled:

If he can send from 1cyktdc when he sends 1 BTC to double Max's 0.5 BTC, then he MUST own the 1cyktdc address.
This can only mean that when he sent 4 BTC to 1cyktdc he was sending them to himself.

Like I said, it was probably necessary to get things going (much like a musician placing a few dollars in their own tip jar before they put it out). But that particular claim of doubling looks like an obvious lie. Perhaps that is the only lie, but the existence of that lie does make me wonder how many more lies there are in this game.  How many more false claims of doubling? How many sock-puppets?

The double was not to myself as ianbakewell can confirm
