I lost money buying Onions, but really that will only be true if I cash them out now. Do I wish I had bought when it was a lower price? Of course, but that's like someone saying that they bought bitcoins at $2 wishing they had bought when it was 50 cents.

In what NXT tecnology differ from Blochain?
I have red the Ardor (based on NXT) will give a reward to holders for each transaction...this make me think it could be a good choise. I have seen the incredible rise of Dash coin, because of masternoodes, and I think everycoin or tecnology that give rewards to the coinholders is good to invest in. Just look at dash!

i hold my ETH, i used to sell for ROI, but now with the Ice Age, PoS coming "soon" i am in total hodl mode the price is staying low as many miners are JUST getting in and still need ROI, but they will cry when eth hits 0.1, even 0.2BTC per  Some say ETH could be bigger than BTC, BTC just has the branding. Time will tell!  I also hold ETH at this point because there is no reason to sell it, ETH certainly will be pumped and only a matter of time. I hope ETH will reach 0.2BTC as you say and I will get a lot of profit. Ethereum will be the best option to be the long term play trade.
