1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MKR] Intrinsic value through cash flow on: August 15, 2015, 10:58:37 PM
MKR coin contract deployment date: Wednesday August 19. MKR will be transferable on the ethereum blockchain on this date.

Nexus sale buyers can withdraw their makercoins to the ethereum blockchain by replying in the Nexus topic they bought in.

More information on how to send and trade the coin on the ethereum blockchain will be released here after the contract has been deployed.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MKR] Intrinsic value through cash flow on: August 15, 2015, 01:43:49 AM
What is the Release Date?

Deployment time of coin contract is announced tomorrow in this thread and on our forum. It will be within one month, but we need to do some final testing so we are confident we will be able to commit to the deadline we announce. This contract will give Makercoin full coin functionality, like bitcoin. Before the contract is deployed, you can still trade MKR for BTC using our forums accounting.

Release date of Maker is early next year (current best estimate). Other modules will come intermittently, including Maker CFD's (decentralized leveraged trading and USD hedging using ether) and a soon-to-be-announced whitelisted fiat (USD/GDP/EUR) gateway that can be used as an onramp for MKR (and eventually Dai).

Makercoin: The first tradeable asset on ethereum
by
Maker
autonomous bank & market maker

Maker insures and earns income from the collateralized debt of the Dai Credit System. Maker transfers this income to the 1,000,000* Makercoin by continuously buying and burning supply over time. This results in a steadily decreasing supply, and a steadily increasing price. * The initial MKR supply is 1,000,000. It decreases over time.

You'll have to read the Dai white paper to understand what that means...

Due to its function as insuring asset of the Dai Credit System, Makercoins earn an income which initially sits at 2% of the value of all outstanding Dai Bonds (USD pegged stablecoin). This gives makercoin an intrinsic value equal to the Net Present Value of the projected future cash flows generated by the outstanding Dai. Because they are an insuring asset, Makercoin carry incredible risk. They are vulnerable to forced inflation if a Dai collateral asset suffers a catastrophic crash - a so called black swan event (an example is ether or bitcoin crashing with more than 30% in a few minutes). The insurance rate (initially 2%) can be autonomously varied over time to compensate for serious losses, and Makercoin owners are able to govern the debt ceilings (and thus risk) using a simplified futarchy.

MKR coin contract deployment date: Wednesday August 19

Scheduled upcoming releases:
Wiki and community bounties
USD and CNY on-ramps
Supply side price control and trading bands
Decentralized margin trading on Ethereum

The Maker, autonomous bank & market maker contract system will deploy to the Ethereum blockchain early next year. It is an open source contract system that deploys Maker to fulfill the functions specified in the Dai white paper. The Nexus development dynasty raises funds to help speed up development of Maker, but takes no responsibility for its performance once deployed, and are not entering into any contract when selling off Makercoins (meaning: do full due diligence on everything before you consider buying. This is an extremely high risk asset.)

5  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation Would KILL Bitcoin Dead on: August 11, 2015, 09:24:30 AM
Am i missing somehing? Who is going to change the cap?

On the other hand, they are just numbers. (bitcoins) You can double the bitcoin count, their value will stay the same for 2x coins. So what is the problem?

Think about this, they are just numbers.

The problem is that those who have the most (but luckily not total) influence on this decision, are the ones who'd would receive the extra inflation into their pockets: The miners.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [Maker OTC] combined supply of 31,000 ETH for sale on Maker OTC @ $1.5 USD each on: August 05, 2015, 06:39:55 AM
New, lower priced ask has been added:

Selling 3000 ETH for 0.0040 BTC (~1.13 ETHUSD)
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / [Maker OTC] combined supply of 31,000 ETH for sale on Maker OTC @ $1.5 USD each on: August 01, 2015, 09:59:45 AM
Maker OTC is an OTC board for ethereum related assets, which also offers free brokering services for larger buyers and sellers. Trading is primarily done using BTC in escrow, or ether in OTC contracts, and will eventually also support ethereum based stablecoins such as the dai.

I'll be mirroring the best open orders we have onto this board to improve liquidity across both markets.

Right now we have 4 open ethereum sell orders at 1.5 USD per ETH. Each order has to be filled by a single buyer, and paid in BTC through bitrated.

15,000 ETH for sale @ 1.5 USD

2,000 ETH for sale @ 1.5 USD

14,000 ETH for sale @ 1.5 USD

Contact the seller on Maker OTC through PM or reply if you wish to fill these orders. If you're an ether buyer or seller who wants to buy or sell an amount above 5000 ETH, Maker OTC can provide free brokering services on your behalf. Please PM Rune on Maker OTC if you want to use this free offer, or PM me (Shuai) here on bitcointalk.

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you call it the block chain or blockchain on: March 14, 2015, 12:18:40 AM
Satoshi called it a block chain. Most bitcoin and altcoin developers call it a block chain. Academic writings call it a block chain. Ordinary consumers started calling it a blockchain after blockchain.info basically coopted the word.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Coinjoin vs stealth transactions - darkcoin vs bitshares on: February 12, 2015, 01:59:12 PM
After the recent crazy bull run of darkcoin, the two coins sitting on number 4 and 5 on coinmarketcap both offer their own version of anonymous transactions to cater to those who want privacy. Darkcoin uses coinjoin with its darksend feature, and bitshares uses stealth transactions with TITAN (transfer invisibly to any name).

As I understand it coinjoin is basically every time you send a transaction, the transaction is mixed together with other people who are sending transactions. Stealth transactions means that every time you send to an address, you actually generate a new public key for the receiver so addresses are never reused.

What are the pros and cons of each kind of anonymous transaction, and which one is better overall?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A good and exhaustive summary of differences between best anonymous coins ? on: February 11, 2015, 11:54:34 PM
Bitshares also has anonymity with TITAN, which is basically default stealth transactions.

I'm not sure how stealth transactions compare to the coinjoin in darkcoin? Could some of the experts give an opinion on this?

What is going on with these moronic altcoin names? Did the cryptocurrency world literally run out of good names because the barrier to entry is so low?

Doge jumped the crypto-name shark.

It took me 6 months to figure out how to "correctly" pronounce that name and I still don't understand why or what it's supposed to mean.  lol

I have friends pronouncing it as "dowshj", "dowg", "dog-ge"... it's really weird.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Cryptocurrency on: February 11, 2015, 08:01:08 PM
You don't think it's already happening?

The world doesn't need any more coins. What communities and developers should be doing is finding actual, practical uses for the ones that already exist.

And if you're a cryptocurrency developer with some great ideas then join bitshares as a delegate and get paid to implement them directly by the blockchain.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitGOLD the most expensive cryptocurrency? Trading at around 5.5 BTC on: February 11, 2015, 03:08:02 PM
Unit price is pointless for comparison. Marketcap is a much better indicator and I don't even see this on the main page of CMC.

I'd say unit price is pretty important when we're dealing with a pegged asset Wink

But otherwise you're correct, being the most expensive cryptocurrency is just a fun but ultimately meaningless title.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitGOLD the most expensive cryptocurrency? Trading at around 5.5 BTC on: February 11, 2015, 11:42:18 AM
Coins with a very, very low supply can achieve per-coin prices much higher than BTC. For example, there will only be 42 42coins ever produced. The coin itself is dead and nobody likes it but each coin is still priced at 5 times that of BTC. It's currently priced a bit lower than bitGOLD but it was much higher in the past.

I should make 0.0001coin! Cheesy
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Dark going to the moon? on: February 11, 2015, 11:39:14 AM
Impressive to see there is still some life left in PoW altcoins. What's the current darkcoin inflation rate? Also does darkcoin have a light wallet?
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin co-operation on: February 08, 2015, 09:31:58 PM
Bitshares has an interesting mechanic where altcoin developers can join the altcoin and work on the blockchain for funding that is chosen directly by bitshares stakeholders. This allows an altcoin developer to leverage their skills across a larger community while receiving a larger (or at least more liquid) reward for their work.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is bitGOLD the most expensive cryptocurrency? Trading at around 5.5 BTC on: February 08, 2015, 07:51:24 PM
https://bter.com/trade/bitgld_btc

Since bitGOLD is a bitshares market pegged asset (whitepaper: http://docs.bitshares.org/content/) it means that it tracks the price of an ounce of gold very closely and should thus be worth around 1300 USD. I think I remember bitcoin briefly surpassed this price at the height of the bubble. Any other crypto ever came close? I realise price per unit is completely arbitrary but it's still interesting to see which one has the highest price.
