281  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: mtgox == mybitcoin == bitscalper == bitcoinica == <next one please> on: June 08, 2012, 02:38:10 AM
GLBSE is next.

I can't imagine there's too many BTC actually held at GLBSE.
282  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Today's Gainers/Losers on: June 03, 2012, 05:06:32 PM
BTCMC didn't have a "90%" drop in price from 8 BTC to .8 BTC.  They had a 10-for-1 stock split.
283  Economy / Securities / Re: Unexpected GLBSE downtime. on: May 31, 2012, 11:55:30 AM
Thanks for the timely updates & attention to these matters.

284  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [ANN] bitfloor cash deposit, ACH withdraw, and wire transfers on: May 27, 2012, 12:13:33 AM
I must say I'm very pleased with this service; took cash to Chase, emailed receipt to BitFloor, & I had my account credited within 30 minutes.

Very professional operation - I'll certainly be using you guys again!

Excellent info, thanks for the post.
286  Economy / Speculation / Any evidence of a correlation of BTC to any other asset? on: May 16, 2012, 07:31:45 PM
Just curious what everybody's thoughts were.

It seems to me that BTC is just so tiny it's hard to draw any parallels with anything else.  I mean, there's more traded in AAPL in 3 minutes than what the entire BTC economy is worth.
287  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE switching DNS servers, may cause issues on: May 15, 2012, 04:17:49 PM
I would assume that most of GLBSE's BTC is kept in cold storage.

288  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [ANN] GLBSE has a new look! on: May 08, 2012, 01:28:32 PM
For users on the American continent there is now https://us.glbse.com

If you're based in the US this will be about 3-5 times faster than glbse.com

The servers are located in the US?
289  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Legality of IPOing securities on GLBSE on: May 08, 2012, 01:02:48 PM
I couldn't agree more with all your concerns.  Reading thru some SEC guidelines here:

http://www.sec.gov/info/smallbus/qasbsec.htm#eod6

it appears that all of GLBSE's issuers are probably breaking some laws regarding unregistered securities if sold to US investors.  The specific securities may not technically have to be "registered", but they most certainly would need to provide offering statements.

I'm far from a securities lawyer, but I would agree that GLBSE will get some SEC attention at some point in the future.
290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Libertarian National Convention in Las Vegas, May 2-6 on: May 06, 2012, 02:48:07 PM
Considering what's taking place here this weekend, I think I'm glad Bitcoin isn't making a showing.

Well, I'll be arriving at the hotel this evening.

I don't have a BTC tshirt or anything to help with promotion...  Sad

Does anyone go to nyse.com to track the stocks they are interested?

No, but the NYSE isn't the custodian of everybody's assets, either.

A real-time streaming ticker would be awesome at some point, but that might be asking too much at this stage.  Smiley

Basically the same thing.

Didn't realize that was available, thanks!
294  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [ANN] GLBSE has a new look! on: May 02, 2012, 01:21:49 AM
There really isn't a reason to extend prices all the way to 8 decimal places on the main assets page; 2 should be plenty.  It'd make the overall page a lot cleaner.

I'd also agree with above comments about too much space between rows.

Overall though, great update, thanks for all your work on the site!

I would differ; I'm all for accuracy. More digits may not be important for all stocks, but they are for some.

Accuracy is important, especially when you're looking at the stock-specific page; but for the main assets page 2 or 3 decimal places should be fine.

Long-term, it'd be great for users to have their own "favorites" stocks they like to track, which could be set up through their preference settings.  When GLBSE gets to be 300-400 stocks large, you want a way for users to visually pare that back a bit to just assets they're interested in.

A real-time streaming ticker would be awesome at some point, but that might be asking too much at this stage.  Smiley

296  Bitcoin / Legal / US: Capital gains tax on intra-BTC transactions? on: April 29, 2012, 11:26:36 PM
Interested in any tax info on the following hypothetical situation:

Buy 1000 BTC @ $4 each.
Use 1000 BTC to purchase security on GLBSE
Sell said security for 1200 BTC.
Later sell 1200 BTC for $6 each.

When would you claim the investment income - when you sell your GLBSE security, or you sell your BTC, or both?
297  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTS] $100 Amazon for $80 BTC on: April 27, 2012, 08:22:47 PM
A relatively smooth transaction, thank you!
298  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: NEWDUDE = SCAMMER!!! SCAMMED ME OUT OF 600$ on: April 27, 2012, 02:04:22 PM
Still wondering if there's any proof of these codes being carded, or if he simply gave out an already-used code to the OP.

(Still a problem either way, obviously...)
299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Libertarian National Convention in Las Vegas, May 2-6 on: April 25, 2012, 12:12:40 PM
Well, we're a week away...who's going?
300  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: NEWDUDE = SCAMMER!!! SCAMMED ME OUT OF 600$ on: April 23, 2012, 11:46:31 PM
Worthless codes don't neccessarily mean they were purchased with stolen credit cards. Did you get that confirmation from Best Buy?  Maybe he gave the same codes out to 2 different people.

I purchased some of his Amazon codes, so obviously I'll be watching this...
