1301  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Electrum] a brainwallet in twelve words on: April 19, 2012, 01:56:07 PM
WARNING
A new website popped up, that lets users generate addresses from their Electrum or Armory seed: http://brainwallet.org/

Currently, it is not clear who created that website.
I previously thought it was Joric, but he just said he is not the author.

After a quick inspection, the javascript does not send your seed to a remote server.
However, nothing guarantees that the server will always send you the same javascript

In other words: this could very well be a phishing attempt.
If you ever used that website, move your funds to a new wallet immediately!

1302  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Electrum] a brainwallet in twelve words on: April 19, 2012, 12:57:09 PM
It lacks support for codes with trailing zero (it's quite likely if keys considered random, the existing generator uses "%032x").
Importing 0e590e7dcd80a54737e49d4f95db4fd and "blank delight sanctuary demand peach sharp knife never meant" gives different results.

thanks for spotting that. I just fixed it and released version 0.43e, whith the patch
1303  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend Bitcoins (worldwide) | Buy Bitcoins (Australia) on: April 19, 2012, 12:08:54 PM
may I suggest something?
your current website draws the user's attention to the new SpendBitcoin Tool.
when I click on it it says that it is in beta.

even though I used your website in the past, this new layout led me to believe
that your service is now unavailable, and will be unavailable until the new Tool
is publicly released.

I suggest you try to draw the attention of the user to the "want to spend bitcoins right now?"
part, and make the beta tool much smaller.

im just way to busy with my current start up

just out of curiosity: what is your current startup?
1305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: business opportunity: language services over skype on: April 19, 2012, 09:08:59 AM
That's actually exactly what I do. I made the post in the Spanish forum because I right now have a bunch of new clients who are interested in Spanish. Also posted about the service in Marketplace:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76064.0

However the interest from the Bitcoin community has been limited (The service is still in it's beta so I'm not advertising it heavily just yet).

I do not think you have the right approach.

It looks like you are trying to intermediate between teachers and trainees, and to collect payments.
It will not work, because it is the essence of Bitcoin to enable direct payments.

I would be better to provide an infrastructure where tachers and trainees can freely meet and decide on price, etc.
the website should allow teachers to have a profile, and trainees to recommend teachers.

1306  Economy / Goods / Re: Awesome T-shirts from Babbletees.com on: April 19, 2012, 08:37:54 AM
I successfully ordered two T-shirts from them in october.
These are great shirts, so I decided to order more.

I placed a second order last month, for 4 tee shirts, but they never sent me a payment address.
After 5 days without receiving a payment address, I sent the following enquiry:

Quote
hello,
I placed this order 5 days ago, but I did not receive any news concerning payment. is everythink OK?
Thomas

This is the answer I received:
Quote
I am sooo sorry for the delay/confusion and will ship your items early
next week and will e-mail you tracking when they send.

THANKS AND ENJOY

Apparently the person who answered my mail did not know that I have not paid yet.
I guess he/she is not the person in charge of BTC orders.

I then sent this message:
Quote
any news concerning that order?
I still haven't received any information concerning payment.

When I placed the order I selected Bitcoin as a paying method; I was expecting to receive an email with a Bitcoin address in order to complete the order.

I previously ordered tees from your site last year and that is how it worked. Are you still accepting Bitcoin as a payment method?

I did not receive any answer to my 2nd message.
I suppose they have one person in charge of BTC payments, and that person is not available for the moment.
I hope this gets solved soon!
1307  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum for Android on: April 19, 2012, 04:17:56 AM
Yep, that was the problem. My bad. Its like you have to install python twice, that wasnt clear to me. It appears to work now Smiley

I do assume you plan on releasing an easier to install and launch version later?  Much as I appreciate the opensourcyness, I fear not many people are going to manage this as it is right now.

Ill test it a bit and report back.

thanks!
I have updated the page with python installation instructions; I reckon it wasn't very clear.
I believe the installation procedure is quite simple; you see it as complicated because you encountered problems.

1308  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum for Android on: April 18, 2012, 08:25:36 PM
Here is documentation on how to install Electrum on your Android device:

http://ecdsa.org/electrum/android.html

feedback is welcome

Im stuck at step 3. When I launch SL4A and scan the barcode, nothing happens. It keeps saying "no matches found".

maybe your barcode scanner does not accept large QR codes?
see here if you can update it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android

alternatively, you can copy the file manually to your phone

It scans the barcode just fine. To be sure, I also tried with the scanner you linked, but I get the same result: nothing happens after scanning.
Im not sure how to manually copy the file to my phone or get it in SL4A either :/

Nevermind. What you have to do is click menu button, then preferences, show all files.
By default the .py files are hidden in SL4A!

Well, that didnt get me much further. Trying to run the scipt causes SL4A to crash instantly Sad

I suspect you did not install python for android... or you uninstalled it by mistake
edit: after step 2, you need to launch python for android and click the 'install' button

There is both demand and supply for it.

Demand: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76664.0

Supply: http://forbitcoin.com/Other/1153/skype-you-for-5-minutes

All we need is a service to match them.

why don't you try bitmit.net ?

I used it a few months ago, not recently.
however, I visited the site last week and it was up and running.
1315  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Minimal Electrum builds for Windows XP & 7 on: April 17, 2012, 11:08:10 AM
oh, there is still a small change to in the gui:
the seed can be displayed as a QR code, so that the wallet can be imported on your telephone.
1316  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Minimal Electrum builds for Windows XP & 7 on: April 17, 2012, 09:33:24 AM
New Windows build is out!
Version 0.43d, with the new Dina monospace font.

EXE: http://dre.tx0.org/elec043d.exe  (I haven't updated the web page yet)
MD5: E87685A2DFF2F99704F91B1E6924CD1C

If you're paranoid: please feel free (and I even encourage you) to diff the
files in your Electrum-P folder against the official source code.

thanks.
sorry that I forgot to explain this, but the only difference between the 0.43c and 0.43d packages is the presence of an Android client.
no update is necessary if you're using Electrum on your desktop.

1318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brain Wallet standardization on: April 16, 2012, 11:09:19 AM
Does that mean the user chooses a password and the seed is generated from this as well, or
the user chooses a password and gets an additional passphrase from the program?

no, the seed is not generated from the password.
the encryption password is only used to encrypt your wallet.

To access your money, you need :
seed OR ( wallet file AND password )

1319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brain Wallet standardization on: April 16, 2012, 10:55:09 AM
Well, apparently Electrum accepts a longer seed, so it's possible to sha256sum some pass phrase and create a deterministic wallet using that (edit: I used the "restore wallet from seed" function). Is Electrum's deterministic wallet generation algorithm documented somewhere? I'm sorry if this question is redundant.

indeed, Electrum accepts any seed if you chose to use the "restore from seed" function;
this method lets you bypass its 128 bits generated seed.

sorry but there's no documentation. the code is simple to read, though
1320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brain Wallet standardization on: April 16, 2012, 10:04:14 AM
I dont believe it is that bad. Display how any bits are used in the user's passphrase, maybe with an estimate of how quick it could be cracked.
yes, such "displays" exist. they are all wrong.

Quote
I, however, would be very sceptical of a program/service where the passphrase is generated for me, and that passphrase gives immediate access to substancial value. I would either skim through the sourcecode, or drop that program right away.

do you trust a program just because it lets you chose a passphrase?

btw, Electrum uses two secrets: a key generation seed (generated from the 128 bits passphrase) AND an encryption password chosen by the user
