There will always be government. Anarchy is only a decentralized society with very small governments possibly to the scale of individuals, if we are ever strong enough.

So let's instead talk about the nation-state. That is really what is being discussed when we talk about government today, since that is the most prevalent kind.

War, as we know it, will cease to exist with the abolition (through knowledge of its nature) of the nation-state. It is only possible to fund such large, devastating conflicts through the use of taxation.

Agree?

With respect, I don't have any wars.  You must be mixing me up with someone else.

You said "we" are the government. Why are you not also accountable for their wars? Sounds like "we" are the government only when it is convenient for your rationalizations.
83  Other / Off-topic / Re: Libertarians Are Sociopaths on: October 24, 2011, 07:53:42 PM
I disagree. If governments were a lot smaller and more decentralized there would be fewer and less devastating wars. There would be conflict but it would be very small skirmishes.

If big governments mean big wars, small governments mean small wars, why wouldn't no governments mean no wars?
84  Other / Off-topic / Re: Libertarians Are Sociopaths on: October 24, 2011, 07:47:48 PM
Are you saying that without governments there'd be no wars? For real?

Yep. Wars are expensive and destructive. They can only be paid for through taxes. Any private entity which engaged in war would quickly lose support of its customers and go out of business. There's no incentive to do so.
85  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Carlin describes today's world eloquently... on: October 24, 2011, 07:46:23 PM
What you can't do is tell other people how they should live.

You're such a fucking hypocrite! That's exactly what you do when you threaten to put people in jail for not funding your wars!
86  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Carlin describes today's world eloquently... on: October 24, 2011, 07:20:20 PM
Look, forget about the argument on views and rights. The fact is a society based on whims and a perception with no limits will inevitable end. Rights cannot be reinstated once taken. This government will collapse in revolution because of a lack of principle and what you are advocating.

Hawker's position is that society already voted your rights away, so you better have a damn good reason and convince everyone that you deserve them back!

He told the audience that they too were "owned" by these mythical supermen he is raving about.

Seriously, watch David Icke and see a real professional expand a conspiracy theory.  You'll never waste time on the likes of Carlin again.

It's not a conspiracy theory, in the same way that "there is no evidence of god(s)" is not a conspiracy theory even though many religious individuals believe otherwise. You're just a member of the Statism religion and blind to this truth, is all.

When will we stop this chatter when bitcoin is mentioned somewhere even remotely relevant everybody and their mum have heard about it. The question is if it is appealing.

Why don't you lead the way and shut the fuck up?

Yes, what have they ever done for us?

Here's what they've done for us.

Fucking inefficient big government. What have they ever done for humanity besides getting us to the moon and inventing the Internet?

The government did not invent the Internet.  At most, the Defense budget paid for it.

In order for his argument to hold any water, he'd have to additionally argue that without DARPA funding, a computer network such as the internet would not have been created.

Further, the internet didn't flourish (or indeed become known as the internet) until it was privatized.

ok that makes sense...   so basically it can't happy right?  At least in any meaningful way ....

Essentially, yes. People can store messages in the block chain (because an encoded message is arbitrary data, and so is a bitcoin script), but you'll only ever see it if you go looking for it.
92  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Carlin describes today's world eloquently... on: October 24, 2011, 05:10:32 PM
for we are the government

Ok, then end the wars, drug prohibition, and corporate privilege. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Centralized power breeds corruption. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you're able to free yourself.
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spammers should be required to send message in blockchain - Kidding on: October 24, 2011, 05:07:16 PM
I was in the process of editing it when you replied "wrong" even though it appears I am right.    As it appears it already exists,  but not used for spam yet.

What does the field do in bitcoind ?

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_chain_message_service

In what way does it appear that you are right?

I assume the field you're talking about is either "comment" or "comment-to"? Those are fields for arbitrary strings that you can associate with your own transactions/recipients. The data is stored in your wallet, nowhere else.

The page you linked has nothing to do with bitcoind. Yes, you can store arbitrary data in the block chain, but only because there's no way to tell the difference between a public key hash and arbitrary data. It would be a dumb way to send out spam, because people would have to go out of their way to look for it, it wouldn't show up in their client in any way. You would, however, only need to encode it into the block chain once, not once per recipient.
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikileak's Survival now Depends on Bitcoin on: October 24, 2011, 05:00:06 PM
Keep in mind, anyone that wants to donate to Wikileaks anonymously can request a one-time address from their IRC bot, so we only know that at LEAST 886 BTC has been donated (to 1HB5XMLmzFVj8ALj6mfBsbifRoD4miY36v).
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spammers should be required to send message in blockchain - Kidding on: October 24, 2011, 04:40:15 PM
you can send a message with the client,  there's a field in bitcoind for it...  it's my guess that the only reason it hasn't happened yet is because a spammer didn't think it's worth it...  yet.

Wrong. That message is stored exclusively in your wallet.
96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think the Bitcoin wealth pyramid hinders economic development on: October 24, 2011, 03:59:21 PM
Almost no growth since summer and declining interest in Bitcoin. We are in better shape that in spring but nowhere better of than 3 months ago.

By what measure?
97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think the Bitcoin wealth pyramid hinders economic development on: October 24, 2011, 03:30:49 PM
The main thought process seems to be 'they never know I have 100k coins, I'll use those when I can buy myself an island'.

From what evidence do you draw this conclusion?

All I see is you projecting your thought process onto others.
98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think the Bitcoin wealth pyramid hinders economic development on: October 24, 2011, 03:10:13 PM
Kinda like all those lazy hoarders with stocks and bonds in their 401k's and pension funds. F those guys, right?

Guys! Compounded interest is magic, they taught me that in elementary school!
99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think the Bitcoin wealth pyramid hinders economic development on: October 24, 2011, 03:09:45 PM
Old coins barely move. You can see that if you dig though the block chain a little.

So? What if those keys are lost? What if they want to keep their older coins for their savings?

I mean, fuck not everybody is retarded and some of those startups might have been partially funded by early adopter coins

What?

but a majority of the 0.1% still thinks they gonna live their golden years in a castle by doing nothing.

Yeah, project those beliefs, project them!
100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think the Bitcoin wealth pyramid hinders economic development on: October 24, 2011, 02:57:56 PM
So the upper 0.1% which own 50% of issued coins are about to come up with their own businesses? But hey we never know, wake me up when they do.  Roll Eyes

Why do you assume that they have not?

The statement about loans was dedicated to asdf who said growth is dependent upon loans.

Are you a liar, or can you not read?

Quote
the economy grows from savings and loans, not by consumption

Individuals must save/hoard and then loan/invest their savings to businesses which use those loans to build capital, which is economic growth.
