81  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: GAWMiners.com - THE BIG GUN - 100 MH Scrypt Miner! $11,999.95 on: May 21, 2014, 07:20:10 PM
So i'm a huge GAW fanboy but was caught off guard by losing all my hosted hash due to Blade upgrade.

I am certain that it was not stated anywhere on the GAW site, including checkout, that I would be without hash until week 3 when the blade upgrades take place.

Are you F*&^ing kidding me? 20 days w/o hash and without being told upfront?

And before anyone says "well it was here in this thread", when did an off-site thread become more relevant than a companies official website? No mention during checkout, no email..nothing. Just surprise this morning when my cloud UI shows 0 devices. I have to open another ticket to find out from support that my blade has been pulled due to upgrade and get a link to this thread to find out that im done mining.

So lets run the #'s:
  • $500 to upgrade blade (i am thankful for this GAW, dropping $1600 on a blade to see the price plummet in 3 weeks blew)
  • Additional $ cost of unit if choosing "hosted" option.(this sux but whatever because it was disclosed
  • 2.5% of hash to pay for hosting cost(ok here as well because it was disclosed and support is great)
  • ~20 days hash free because of upgrade? WTF is this about? Are all the units already sold and need to be shipped today or is the blade still running and GAW taking 20 days worth of proceeds from a blade I still technically own until it's replaced with the Black Widow? In 20 days the Black Widows will probably be $800...
the above equation cannot be solved because this is bullshit.

I don't understand GAW trying to do everything right then jerking the customer around like this. I know i'm a small fish having only spent ~5k with GAW but...no buts, that's 5 grand. It may not cover a set of tires for Josh's Ferrari but it certainly is a lot to me.

It said directly on the site:
"At the time of purchase, your hosted Blades will be taken offline."

anyone with blades down?
As someone else has suggested (and it worked for me once):
1) Try removing all the pools, then re-entering them
2) If you have more than 1 blade, set a unique entry in the pool list with a unique worker name for each blade.  Then assign each blade from the drop-down list.  This way you can monitor each blade for problems.

From my own experience, set your worker/share difficulty on your pool to 1024 or 512. Share difficulties of 16 or 32 make the blades perform unreliably, in my experience.

thanks, are we gona get divy payments anytime soon? or should i just sell it?

Okay, that's it. I'm putting together a website with all the ASICMINER news. A nearly 1k page thread is *not* a good medium for disseminating information!

Edit: The answer to your question, per the update a few pages back, is May 27th. Also, dividends are going to be released on a monthly basis going forward.
Looking forward to it.
In the meantime, most of the latest/relevant info was provided by Jutarul, after asking FC questions:

I cleared the matter up with my bank but suffice to say its a major Australian bank so chances are this will happen to more buyers. Looks like GAW has been black listed by some banks as I've purchased items of greater amounts from overseas recently and I haven't received a phone call.

Doubt that.  Banks seem to have no rhyme or reason.  You could make several $1000+ purchases, and your bank stops a $50 payment because it's "suspicious" to their algorithm.

"Black listed"?  What are you trying to spread?  Where's your proof?

GAW specifically stated their price protection and buyback policy, which now seems to be nothing and that's where most my frustration is.
This was a HUGE reason I (as part of the Founder's Club) bought some blades.  Price protection and buy back were huge promises, that they have now backed out on.

Up till that point, they had kept all their promises.

To say "oh, that's only for the gridseeds, and gridseed screwed us over, so there's nothing we can do going forward", now defines them for me.

They will make promises to get you to buy, then change the program when it doesn't work out for them.

Which again is a shame, because all their other great promos and promises (double has reward, quick uptime to getting hosted), they followed through on, where no other company was offering those services on Gridseeds.  And it was impressive for them to make those big promises, and actually deliver.  But now there is doubt for me going forward.

What is GAW, if anything, going go to do about the price drop for people that purchased Gridseed blade miners recently?  I purchase 2 Blades hosted miners (I paid $1,600 & $1,500).  I feel like crap now that they are selling for $950 each.

I know you will come up with something to compensate us loyal customers... thanks
It's not GAW's fault.  I'm sure they paid more for them to fill your order as well.  GAW probably makes a certain percentage off the sales, so whether you bought it at $1500 or $1000, GAW makes the same percentage.  Asking them to give you back money doesn't make sense since they probably paid more as well.

That is why it's confusing that the Founder's Club had "price protection" and "equipment buy-back".

I'm sure more people would have upgraded to a GAW brand miner, if they could "trade-in" or "sell-back" their blades.

Now Josh's promise of "those that buy our brand of miner's will be happy with upcoming surprises," maybe means they will upgrade orders or something.  Who knows.  I'm tempted to buy, but am stuck with over-priced/un-upgradable blades.

Welcome to the world of mining.

G-glade hash rate fluctuate wildly and going down a few times a day.

yes I get this issue a lot as well, please fix this especially for those who rent out on leaserigs
Using worker difficulty 16, 32 and 64 make the blade very unstable (too many errors force reboot apparently).  The blades are much more stable with something like 1024 difficulty.  I think the problem lies with pools that don't allow you to set the miner difficulty, or don't use VARDIFF properly.  So set a higher worker difficulty, or use a good pool with VARDIFF.

If it were possible to change the error tolerance for reboot, that would be great.  I don't know if that's hard-programmed into the controller, or if GAW can allow us to set a limit.  There seems to be something with the blade that causes errors and reboots when getting lots of small work very fast, versus less, higher-difficulty work.

Power issues:(?)
There have been several times when my blades will get stuck in a reboot loop, even at higher work difficulties.  I've emailed support, and they say, "It was a power issue", and usually the blade comes back online, apparently after they tweaked something.  Other times, 1/2 of the blade is down, while the other half is just fine.  Rebooting only makes that good half come back up again, while the other half is still down.  This happens often.  Eventually (hours), the other half comes back up.

Not sure if GAW has fully implemented their "revamping of the blade's power delivery for all effected blades", or if it is just selectively done.  I'm guessing all of the blades suffer from lack of proper available power, and that GAW hasn't updated the power delivery for every blade- just those that people have complained about. This guess is from the observation that others also are still having issues, and that I get 1/2 of blades that won't come back up after reboots, or blades that won't reboot.

It's possible this is due to poor blade design, or the controller.  It would be nice to know that GAW has upgraded the power delivery for EVERY blade, so that this can be ruled out, and not just for "those blades effected by a power delivery issue".   I think I still may have power delivery issues on some of my blades, manifested as reboot loops, or half the blade staying stuck.

Anyone else seeing the "1/2 stuck blades", or infinite reboot loops?

Will there be info on buy back or upgrade programs to the new ASICs?

Good question

Hi, we do not have plans to offer upgrade programs between different hardware manufactures. If we do offer upgrades it will be within the same product lines (ie. Gridseed to Gridseed)

Thank you for the questions, GAW
Can you take this opportunity to explain:
"Price Protection
Equipment buy back"

For instance, are you offering to buy equipment back at a certain price, then resell it labeled as "used"?

I assume the "price protection" is just if something drops in price overnight, and the people that bought the day before get some sort of discount?  How does the "price protection" work?
Thanks.
