341  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Using a DHT to reduce the resource requirements of full nodes. on: June 23, 2014, 04:11:50 PM
i really like that idea.
but how to ensure that really old transactions are available forever?
they are only needed be new upcoming nodes which should mean most nodes dont even bother with storing anymore

when is mintpal going to add?

In about two hours they will announce the most voted coin.

where are those announcements?
343  Economy / Exchanges / Re: And we have another Bitfinex Hookey THIEVING Short Squeeze! on: June 22, 2014, 12:41:32 PM

As we had nothing better to do than stealing candies from retarded kids like you, you don't even have 3 btc (2.5 to be exact) in your pocket.

Grow up and learn to take the blame of your own stupidity instead of insulting others.

Just get a life.

you disclose a customers balance?
really?

All the people wait for xmr add  to mintpal..But..What will happen after that ? good things ? bed things?

i'd say slowly increasing with many healthy small dumps

Looking for some scripting/programming help. I'm trying to make an exe or an autorun file for minerd cpuminer for monero. I have bat files setup on all of my PCs but i'd like to automate this. I'm using windows 7 and iexpress (built in windows program). It's just not working for me.
I have the latest cpuminer/minerd and a .bat file in a folder. I'd like to somehow combine it all into one .exe or .com file to autorun. Is this possible? If so, can anyone help out?

winrar has that feature: extract to an exe and calls an containing program after extracting itself.

but why do you need it in one file to autorun?

i'm manually running bat files and just want to automate with task scheduler. Seems to only run for me as an .exe file

the name of the program is cmd.exe. the bat file is just a parameter

Hi,

i made a small webpage to display current XMR and BBR prices for Polo (including history).
currently its just two graphs, but i have many plans...

please share your views: http://k1024.de/cn
Looks good, I like how some of the candles go off the charts  Tongue lol

i guess i should change the svg to not draw the whole area Wink

If the coin is untraceable, how come the merchant will know whether the customer has paid in this coin ?

In BTC you only have a private key which allows you to spend.
Monero uses ring signatures which means you have two keys: a viewkey and a privatekey.

you need the viewkey to see incoming transactions and the privatekey to spent them.

so the merchant uses his viewkey to see when he gets paid

Monero Client's first test release is here!

I have been working very hard in the past days in order to make everything ready for the first test version of the WPF Monero Client to be deployed for the public. The next few releases will not have a changelog, as I will focus on the development instead. (Commits tell about most of the changes anyway.)

I am proudly announcing that the application is now ready for testing. Please report any bugs or annoyances you occur, so I can fix them ASAP.

Here is the link for the downloads:
https://github.com/Jojatekok/monero-client/releases

I noticed that the x86 version of bitmonerod.exe is buggy for me, so I recommend everyone to use the x64 architecture if possible. Please note that the slow shutdown is due to saving the blockchain and wallet data. The option for disabling these steps will be implemented in the near future, as all the data are saved every 2nd minute.

Translators are still needed in order to reach everyone in the world with Monero's innovations. PM me for more details if You are interested! Smiley

nice work.. the win64 build stops after a few seconds tough - just tell me if you need any logs.
what i dont like: monerod has a very nice rpc-wallet interface. even bitcoin tries to seperate wallet and daemon: why did you take the other direction?

Well, the x64 crash after a few seconds is weird. I would happily see some logs to analyze the problem. Wink

I have not chosen not to implement the RPC for the wallet, but have not started implementing it yet. Currently, I am adding support for generating QR codes, then I'll be insanely busy adding miner support. As I have already mentioned, there are a lot of features to add, including many which are not even mentioned as ideas for Bitcoin Core. Stay tuned for more updates! Wink

well i should have closed putty (which redirects monero rpc port) before i had start your app.
it works now: please dont misunderstand me: i really like and appreciate your work.

i just hope that the rpc interface will not be forgotton as i see it as an major advantage

353  Bitcoin / Project Development / poliniex watcher: small commandline price watcher on: June 20, 2014, 09:46:23 PM
hi,

this is nothing fancy... its just a very small php script (which doesnt need a webserver) which uses the api-php from poliniex.

it looks at your balances and prints this:

Code:
BTC Value                Last                 Ask                 Bid %Change    Volume
   BTC:          0.12004677
   XMR:          8.43757394          0.05536635          0.00656188          0.00669000          0.00656187     24%       700
        buy 20 @ 0.0064 total: 0.128 BTC

   BBR:        100.00000000          0.19579900          0.00195799          0.00203201          0.00195883      3%        67

Total BTC: 0.49921212

i use it together with watch to see whats going on.

Some say XMR will rise when XMR/BTC market will open on Mintpal. What's the reasoning behind this (except from larger exposure) ... are there precedents ?

I'm under the impression last couple of days and certainly last couple of hours, XMR is being pumped on Polo in anticipation of the Mintpal notation and XMR will be dumped on Mintpal.

What's your opinion ?

i've been relative new to alt-currencies but i recognized very fast how crappy polo is (eg you have to talk to support every third withdraw)

so polo wont ever get more than 0.25btc from me at a time.

i hope that mintpal works better (it certainly looks like). i dont know if there are more than me who thinks that way and i'd like to see some precedents too

edit: their support is nice and fast though Wink
No problems with polo for me so far. 5 deposits and 3 withdrawals without any problem.... I guess I'm lucky ?

dont know... it wasnt even big amounts... always around 5-30mro. about 7 seven withdraws and 3 support tickets...

This can be crucial for the exchanges and pools. What if a user withdraws the money and it got stuck and reversed after 24 hours?

If you are right, I assume the service gets the transaction back without any notification about that. Suddenly, there is simply money on the wallet with no other information on the transfer. So the service will have to manually recalculate all the incoming and outgoing transactions to test, who is the transaction owner. The larger your service, the more useless work you should be doing on the daily bases.

That's not too friendly towards the businesses working with Monero for sure.

and whats the differnce with ANY other crypto?
you'll send a transaction and check if the network accepts it...

if not you rebroadcast or doublespent it with a higher fee (the last one only works with btc and eligius - afaik)

It's a different approach. The service should be notified when the transaction is reversed, otherwise it breaks whole user experience. The money were withdrawn, never appeared in the user's wallet and are not identified by the service and couldn't be credited back to the account.

ok... just write a script that checks if a transaction has gone through and execute it regulary?
btw: do you know that a reverse can be reversed to? if the client did already notify the service it would have been resent...

orphan blocks can be the realchain again: they just need a miner who builds on them (and this can happen very fast)

I wouldn't be too surprised, since Monero is easy and most profitable target for botnet owners. I just wonder how much hash rate can be attributed to botnets currently. Hopefully, not that much. But the difficulty growth happens very fast with a long plato afterwards, which might point to new botnets jumping in.

CPU mined coins are subject to botnets by definition. However, this is not what you want for the coin you're mining or investing in. Large botnet share means that the majority of the coins is obtained by the scammers and is likely to be dumped. This can't be good for the long term development because the coins are spread not among the devs or users, but are obtained by botnet holders.

How much is the case for Monero? I really believe that not all of the spikes are due to botnets, but at least some of them could be.

you contradict yourself:
if botnet owners sell all its good distributed.
if they dont there are no dumps

btw i dont think any of this is true: they should sell.... steadily. as any other miner.

i dont like botnets and think they are criminal. but i dont really see an issue from a crypto-currency-user perspective

edit: botnets dont havy any influence about how many new coins where generated per day. just how much other miners get

I would like to ask you about the botnets in XMR. I've been reading bytecoin thread and stumbled upon XMR mining malware.
There was also a topic on the stealth miner: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=639375.0

Did anybody notice any difficulty spikes in early June?

a bcn shill here? you must be really afraid Wink
i prefer botnets over a 80% premine...

hi eleuthria,

do you consider other algos?

i am mainly interested in CN which gets raped by poolhoppers lately (all pools are still prop) and i guess cpu/amd/nvidia-mineable coins with some value are a good add to your pool?
