change the name to

1.moneydump

2.cashflush

3.devscamcoin

4.deadhorsecoin

Lol good heckle

Everyone who held on to their SC is going to be happy.  Everyone who is negative is either (1) a daytrader who doesnt care about the brand and deserves their own bitter, meaningless lives, or (2) someone who sold all their coins and doesnt want to see anyone else prosper if they cant also and therefore deserves their own bitter, meaningless lives.  SC has endured.  Sorry if you didnt.

Heres a crappy meme.  Im glad other people have done better, but I felt the occasion needed some additional fluffers.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 06, 2014, 08:58:27 AM
I too would like a new ticker - SILK or SLK Smiley

And call the currency Silk instead of SilkCoin! We need a distinction as clear as possible!

The only problem with that is the coin wont come up in Google search results.  The tag "silkcoin" or "silk coin" needs to be established as the main reference to the coin, otherwise the webcrawlers wont place it at the top of search results.  That will discourage new crypto adopters from adopting it. We want it to be distinguished from the metatag "Silk" which already referes to a million other things online.

Definitely SILK for the ticker!
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SILKCOIN][POS][TAKEOVER] on: July 06, 2014, 08:54:22 AM
Team, we immediately need to decide once and for all exactly what the name of our coin is.

Silkcoin
SilkCoin
Silk Coin
Silk

Brand new websites, merchant graphics, social media pages and articles are going live... consistency is critical to successful branding.

Arteleis, if a vote is necessary, let's get one up at the top of this thread ASAP.
Personally, I think Silkcoin is the most elegant.

Ben

SILK should be the ticker.  But the tradename (i.e., as in trademark, and for use in metatags, or the name of the coin in colloquial jargon) should be silkcoin or silk coin, otherwise a Google search for "SILK" would not turn up the coin in the top page of the results.

SING: a supermeme meets a superbly developed coin.  Sell all of your household appliances on Craigslist and buy Singularity coin, now.

This is one of the most promising coins I've seen in a while.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [BBL] BitBlock - World's first X15 coin | Bittrex | Poloniex|Poker Server on: July 03, 2014, 12:11:47 AM
Here's why I like Bitblock, because unlike the other X15 algos, it isnt being overhyped.  Slow and steady builds a healthier network, while pump and dumps attract volatility.  Ive been poor-man-mining BBL (hitting the fountain) since it launched, and I expect it to gain value for at least the next few months assuming the devs keep up with its evolution.  So, overall, a great X15 buy and hold coin right now.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYC] New York Coin FORUM on: July 01, 2014, 01:22:45 PM
I am thinking of mining nyc again BUT the devs are never active in the forum, the community consists of 10 people, and it will never get into mintpal or cryptsy.
if you look how low the votes on cryptsy or mintpal are, then you will belive me.
swisscex is not hard to get in.so i am thinking.
The airdrop is a crap, who really thinks that bill clinton or other famous people would use nyc is a daydreamer.

No other coin has survived so long with such little investment and effort from devs.  Thats about all there is good to say about this coin now.  Im not selling mine, but if anyone wants to take over this coin, there is a core group of believers who would support the effort. (hint: cryptocoin revival foundation).

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FuelCoin - Charity Project on: July 01, 2014, 04:00:34 AM
8 billion coins and a 30sec block time... now thats a system that could FUEL a global economy.  Everyone should hold at least 5000k of these babies.  If the devs keep producing, hold 10x to 100x more.

hey Devs, a small miner bug in qt wallet for windows 7.  The client does not unload out of ram mem after client is closed.  At this time I must manually end process via wins task manager.  Other then that , running great.  Keep up the awesome work.  Smiley

I had the same problem and used the same fix on my XP system

Swiss Coin Exchange @swisscex
We have a voting winner: #NewYorkCoin
@NewYorkCoin

NYC has survived because of the community that believes in it.  Whoever the devs are - step up or step down.

We have won our place on SwissCex.  Now there is another chance to get accepted on coinpayments.net.  If anyone has the resources and know how to get NYC in the running for this latest drive, this could be the clincher that saves this coin.  see https://www.coinpayments.net/coinreq

Im ready to vote NYC there as I did every hour on swissex, and I know the rest of you will too.  Any takers??
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYC] New York Coin LAUNCH on: June 19, 2014, 04:53:33 PM
No offense, and Im glad youre thinking about how to improve this coin, but what you have proposed is not innovation, its jumping on the bandwagon.  Every other coin has forked to PoS and I see no real marginal value in that.

We all bought NYC knowing it had a huge coin volume.  I expected that to lead to higher liquidity and broader adoption.  But the problem is, we have no marketplace, no pipes, no merchant adoption, drawing on that liquidity.  So the coin has stagnated.  But the power of the name keeps the network alive very successfully.

At the very least, NYC occupies a piece of valuable real estate.  If we abandon the network, someone else will scoop up the coins at bargain bin prices (present prices) and then bide their time until a major new crypto tool emerges that adds real marginal value to whatever coin adopts it.  Then there will be a relaunch.  Then shoot me...

The dev is right that merchant adoption and community enthusiasm are our rate limiting variables now.  Changing the coin specs will just split up the network and decrease the number of full nodes on the other side of the fork, because not everyone will participate in the changeover.

What is this coin's strongest attribute?  The name.  Period.  All that name needs to grow huge is a reliable reputation and coin velocity, that is, a strong pulse in its merchant-related activity.

Our day will come.  We will rebuild stronger when the right opportunity arrives.  PoS isnt that.  PoS/poW switching will only spark volatility and encourage PnD cycles.

People need a way to use NYC.  Anything is valuable at this point.  Find any merchant anywhere to at least show support for the concept of NewYorkcoin and the pulse of the network will gain a little more velocity.  The network effect would take care of scaling up to see real growth.  Everyone should be focusing on how to encourage people to acquire and use NYC.  PoS just takes care of the acquiring.  We need use.  NYC needs to flow in order to have life and grow.

I just voted #400 which puts you in 10th place.  You guys do have some strong support out there somewhere.  That was a fast rise.   But can you do the next 4000?  If you can, dont make it look natural, just blast the #1 contender out of the way.  Make a statement.

If my math is right we are going to see another block halving in 72hours at 140k block?

I'm happy to buy all your FAIL at 1 litoshi. If you support FAIL buy it and hoard it and make it rare. It only takes a half dozen btc and all those cheap coins are gone and for that price you own over 5% of the blockchain. A half dozen btc more would give you even more cheap FAIL from weaker players cashing out on their first opportunity. It will shortly be almost impossible to mine that amount.

I'm surprised I don't have much buy support with me at 1 litoshi but we are talking about FAIL here. I'm not rich or a whale but I will throw some ltc for huge chunks of this fun blockchain I don't care. I've donated over a billion of these coins for dev.

We really need to be able to tip with failcoin. This should be a high priority. Any gaming incorporated into fail is a good thing, FAIL should be a fun coin.

Live long and FAIL!

I agree.  FAIL coin has a delightful tipping aspect.  The future android human hybrid will be able to receive good KARMA coin, maybe win a bonus coin, maybe sexy females will inspire tips in pinkcoin, but most likely the average person will deserve a handful of FAIL coins, day after day.

And think of the publicity potential: for example, someone ought to offer politicians and celebrities FAIL bounties.  1 billion FAIL to Barack Obama for his foreign policy.  Don't worry, he wont claim it...

If you like what you said,BTC(NYC) is not unique, why many people accept BTC, BTC sell $600 - $1200 or many,People can create another BTC, Why?

Because you can't replace or create bitstamp btc-e bitpay or coinbase out of the blue.
You can't get 50 000 daily transactions on a new coin.

Bitcoin has the popularity and no other coin can't currently compete with it.

Nyc has none of the above , that's why a clone can easily match it.

I would never expect to replace bitcoin, unless of course something happens that causes people to lose faith in that network.  This risk will preserve the need to have altcoins.  Altcoins and parallel blockchains will always exist to hedge against exposure to risk in bitcoin.  Then the only question is how usable are the next best bitcoin alternatives.  Not everyone cares about anonymity.  And bitcoin is expensive.  There is the simple psychological factor that people will want to conduct daily transactions in small integers, like four coins for a burger, not .0099000.

But bitcoin will catch on fast in NYC.  Demand for some altcoins will be strong.

@Amph,

Friends in Mexico that inspired this coin think different.

There is huge potential interest in cryptocurrencies in central and south america.  It is illegal to import mining equipment into some of those countries (like argentina).  The economy of venezuela is worse than bunnycoin... etc.  A coin directed towards this demographic can do well, if it can break through.  Give it a shot.  Devs should make contacts in each latin american country to see if they cant get strong nodes up and running in each.  Adoption would follow en masse.  And, people in north america like to buy various "products" from latin america so I imagine it would eventually trade well in the US and canada.

What the hell, its only one more wallet on the desktop lol.  Heres mine (and a backup):

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NYC] New York Coin LAUNCH on: June 16, 2014, 04:11:25 PM
Someday there will be a NewYorkCoin.  We have the chance now to be that coin.  We need more from the devs and more from the community.  When I say we, I am speaking as an early investor and not as a dev.

We finished near the top of the voting on coinpayments during their last competition, in the company of some other very successful coins, and there is still voting going on at Swisscex where NYC is almost at the top.  We are very close to breathing life into the coin.

The network / blockchain is still operational and Im getting 11 node connections which is more than most altcoins have.  The coin is not dead, it just has no real world utility yet.  It has a meme that must eventually bear fruit.  The only question is whether it can gain acceptance in the marketplace and whether its users are mere speculators or actual productive supporters.

If you were looking for a free ride or a quick buck, NYC isnt that.  If you believe that New York is a major hub for cryptocurrencies and that an established NYC coin has a manifest destiny to succeed there eventually, then roll your sleeves up and contribute focused effort to the cause.  It doesnt matter so much how many exchanges carry the coin now, look at Karma, they have a massive market cap and almost no footprint on the exchanges.

Im voting on Swisscex and I have btc loaded into coinpayments in case they open another round of voting.  The devs could at least release a wallet upgrade or give the network a revamp to show that they are committed and professional.  If the NYC twitter account had anything big to say, I would be retweeting, but we're still talking about this airdrop.  Thats not news anymore.

Just my 2 NYC's...
20  Economy / Speculation / Re: If someone buys Bitcoin today, they'll be lucky to see a 300%+ ROI. on: June 15, 2014, 09:43:36 PM
Since you're still reading this, I gotta ask...

Do you plan to get back in when you spot the next bottom? Also, I noticed your call of $2 was actually off by a month. You posted that in October 2011 but Bitcoin didn't hit $2 till mid-November.

Bitcoin seems, to me, to be traded like a commodity. We know exactly how many Bitcoin there are, so selling out of everything and trying to call the bottom with certainty is a fool's errand. Granted you've done it before, and I see you noticed this as well, but don't you potentially see that happening again? Someone with millions or perhaps billions wanting to stockpile such an easily-manipulated currency?

Theoretically, yes, we know how many bitcoin there are supposed to be.  But I challenge you to prove to me that there is not, or cannot be, a shadow blockchain where a hidden cahce of bitcoin exist that can be shuttled on and off the "real" blockchain.  Doesnt MT Gox expose the prevalence of bots manipulating BTC price and volume with shadow/imaginary USD already?  Just a thought.

Satoshi Nakamoto was not a lone gunman, he is a front for the leading edge of cryptography, which is a science funded by government intelligence agencies.  If youre in crypto, your job is paid by government grants, thats a fact.  Whoever started this whole thing was not independent of the NSA and the other usual suspects.

They tricked us with the internet (though we almost won it away from them - until the United States Agency of Google stole it back), and they are duping us with this ridiculous meme that some Japanese hermit spontaneously birthed the blockchain, and nobody knew about its significance until the early adopters magically got rich.  Since the genesis block, the network is being carefully nurtured (and diligently pruned) by hidden hands, and those hidden hands know that whoever controls hashing power controls bitcoin, and therefore it has to be under the purview of the NSA.

Conspiracy theories aside, I am highly skeptical that fake BTC do not exist somewhere in an underground shadow network with 100x the processing power of the rest of the world combined, processing power paid for by USD being printed faster now than even scamcoins are proliferating.

wow. Wasn't expecting to read this kind of stuff in 2014.
You have some reading to do mate.

admittedly... point me to the right threads
