  • Data shared exclusively with CNBC from financial research firm Autonomous Next shows the number of funds investing in digital assets like bitcoin has grown rapidly to 124.
  • Autonomous Next also estimates that the "crypto-funds" have about $2.3 billion in total assets under management.
  • While several leading Wall Street banking executives remain skeptical about bitcoin, more seasoned money managers are moving into digital assets management.

Another step towards going mainstream.

Some people use safety deposit boxes, which store the password or usb stick.

Then they bequeath the safety deposit box to their heirs.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Over 500 Million People Are Unknowingly Mining Cryptos on: October 28, 2017, 07:55:50 PM
I've just read this on Kitco. I've checked all my notebooks, and I can't find any traces. I guess that means I'm living a boring life. Smiley

http://www.kitco.com/news/2017-10-16/Over-500-Million-People-Are-Unknowingly-Mining-Cryptos.html

You'll never find any traces because none are left Wink

These browser-based mining scripts are written in JavaScript, which means they are just running out of the box in your browser, without any need to install anything. It also means they are only running as long as you are on the website in question.

There are more and more sites that use up a lot of my CPU.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be too big to fail? on: October 28, 2017, 07:50:40 PM
For each government, their citizens represent a minority of the owners of Bitcoin.

No government is going to bail out foreigners this way.
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do you trust bitcoin over banks and love bitcoins, more and more? on: October 28, 2017, 07:48:14 PM
It's not the banks that is the issue.

It's the ability of the government to print more of the money.

When the government prints more money, they are acting no differently than when a criminal counterfeits more money.  Both of them are stealing wealth from you.

In actuality, the banks are easier to use.  You don't need to create offline wallets and worry about hackers or malware.
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Caused the Boom in Bitcoin on: October 28, 2017, 07:45:35 PM
I've been watching and monitoring bitcoin for close to 3 or 4 years and I can say this year has been the best year for the crypto and all the investors in the market, firstly, the coin witnessed unpredicted increase in value this year more than any other year before.

I know that the value is based on the principle of demand and supply but I'd like to know what else contributed to the price value and the popularity bitcoin has right now globally.

There were a multitude of factors:

price increase caused more people to buy, which causes more price increase

fast price increase caused media to cover it more, which caused more people to buy it, which caused price to continue to increase.
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why should people invest in bitcoin? on: October 28, 2017, 07:43:06 PM
Bitcoin has been a good bet for the past 18 months.

It will go through a lot of volatility in the next 6 months.

We already plan to gamify the stock market, which is massive.  If stocks can be tokenized, which Overstock is the only project that seems to be able to do it, then it can potentially enable us to provide a whole slew of additional games.

From article:

Byrne said proceeds from the ICO will go to further developing an ecosystem around tZero.

36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Overstock.com goes for largest digital coin offering ever at $500 million on: October 28, 2017, 02:24:46 PM
i didn't understand what the ICO is for! ICO is initial COIN offering, so are they creating their own altcoin? the articles focused on the "Equity Token Exchange" part not what will that COIN be that they are doing a fund raising for?

besides, aren't they already accepting bitcoin as payment? what would be the point of a new coin? it will never be used as bitcoin or fiat are!

I updated the OP to answer your question.

Overstock just sells stuff online. So what do they need an ICO for? Does anyone have the details? Links?

They want to create a new stock exchange, except use tokens to represent ownership of the stocks.

They bought a Wall Street firm that is already approved by SEC to trade stocks.

This can potentially create new, additional opportunities for StockBet.

Sorry, but I do not understand:

"how token sales system after the ICO"

Nobody buys token before it is distributed.  It is created by the software.

Do not understand:

"which token is already being distributed?"
