81  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Guiminer not detecting 2nd graphics card on: August 26, 2011, 02:56:26 PM
Yeah.  Need more info.

However, cgminer is very good at detecting multiple gpus and setting the best options for them automatically.  You could try that.
82  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: msi twin frozr II 6950 350 mhash max?? on: August 26, 2011, 02:51:42 PM
You should get about 370 MHs @ 900 Mhz.  The fastest fix might be to try another OC application.  Trixx is probably your next best bet.  Also, clocktweak is worth a look.
83  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cant overclock x5 5850 Rig on: August 26, 2011, 02:49:00 PM
What software are you using to OC?
84  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: OC'd video cards at ~70% fans for 9+ months sustainable? on: August 26, 2011, 02:48:18 PM
I hope so.  I've been running mine at 100% for about a month now.
85  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How hot do your cards run? on: August 26, 2011, 02:45:57 PM
All 6950s

Closed rigs seem to be between 75-85C
Open rigs are generally between 55-70C
86  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it still feasible to solo mine at 10gh/s? on: August 26, 2011, 02:37:02 PM
I don't see the advantage of solo mining.  The math works out over a long enough period of time.  Sure, you'll make less BTC per block, but you'll be getting blocks more often.  So it's a wash (over enough time).  But most people like to see a steady income of BTC which is why pools are around.
87  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: miner hangs when i disconnect logmein or unplug monitor on: August 26, 2011, 02:33:48 PM
If it helps, i'm using logmein with no issues, so it's likely not part of your issue.
88  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: is there any free windows os?? on: August 26, 2011, 02:28:15 PM
Free windows doesn't exist unless you steal it.  Try linux.  It's nice and free.

I just want to know is there a free microsoft windows os?
89  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: A sticky would be nice for those just starting out on: August 26, 2011, 02:24:44 PM
The wiki is good.  This forum also has many great resources.  Here is a comparison of gpus that is handy: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=9674.0.

90  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: half the hash rate on: August 26, 2011, 02:16:31 PM
Agreed.  You're like mining on the same card twice.  If you're using guiminer, check the dropdown under each worker and be sure they all point to separate gpus.
91  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help please...I'm a newb when it comes to mining on: August 26, 2011, 02:14:37 PM
Not worth it.  No.

Would it be worth it to mine with a cheap laptop? How exactly does it all work? How much electricity would it take up? And is it worth it?
92  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: client 2 stops working on: August 26, 2011, 02:13:08 PM
I would try lowering the clocks.  Are you monitoring temps?
93  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 4th GPU sitting at connecting? on: August 26, 2011, 02:11:49 PM
Sounds like a PSU problem to me.  But you might give another mining app a try.  I used guiminer initially, but have since switched to cgminer.
94  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Sapphire TRIXX Command Line/Automation on: August 26, 2011, 02:05:47 PM
Yes.  Clocktweak is very cmd line friendly.
95  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can't seem to control memory clock on multi-card setup on: August 26, 2011, 02:04:07 PM
I've had similar issues.  You should try clocktweak.  It's functions well with multiple gpus.
96  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: More RAM = faster mining on: August 26, 2011, 01:59:09 PM
Which driver are you using?  Some of the previous AMD drivers loaded up the CPU with work for no reason.
97  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help me re-evaluate my setup - PPS or PROP on: August 26, 2011, 01:56:30 PM
Prop is great when you get quick blocks, but it will only take a very long block or two to make you wonder why you didn't switch to PPS.  Also, PPS doesn't have the hopper issue of your share of short rounds going down.  Currently, you need medium sized blocks so that you can reclaim your share after the hoppers leave.  In PPS, it doesn't matter.

Also, there are many variants and combinations of these two types.  The pool that I currently mine in uses PPLNS, which I like quite a lot.  You should explore some of the other types as well.  There are quite a few.
98  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: 120 confirmations on: August 26, 2011, 01:05:25 AM
More likely than you'd expect.  Rumors of blocks being invalid after 20 blocks is not unheard of.

a block does not get paid into the pools wallet until 120 confirmations, most pools will not payout before this is reached.

some pools pay earlier, it means the pool operator is taking a risk that the block will go invalid before 120 confirms

You say risk, but ... what is the likelihood of that actually happening
after - say - five blocks ?

Thx Rennex.  Concise and helpful.

100  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: need help with my miner on: August 25, 2011, 09:40:37 PM
Most apps will have an "other" option.  Select that and enter your server details.
