2  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In a Democracy should the people have the right to kill their leaders? on: December 27, 2021, 10:37:52 AM
If the leaders have the power to kill the people, then yes.

i think killing of a democratically elected leader is not acceptable in any civilized society no matter how cruel or corrupt he/she is  while there are other constitutional options available to remove him from office. . The history of democracy vindicates that it is not the best system to run the government but having said that what is other better alternative. The world has already witnessed  terrible disasters created by  authoritarian and communist regimes in many parts of the world.

If country has corrupted leader can we still consider that society as civilized? If leader is corrupted are there any other constitutional options to remove him?

So if you feel the need to kill your leader, chances are you're either mentally ill or not in a democracy.

Probably the former.

Not sure how much countries has a democracy at all...  Undecided

3  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In a Democracy should the people have the right to kill their leaders? on: December 12, 2021, 07:45:09 PM
That can never be a Democracy. Or any such act cannot be denoted as a democratic act. Killing anyone (despite being at fault) is not allowed to be done by any individuals. It is illegal to law into hands. Legal processes can be adopted to assure the enforcement of justice. The leaders are elected by the common citizens, so they must vote for some better option. But killing someone still cannot be allowed at any case.

First thing that every gov will assure is to be safe from plebs. So it is impossible to adopt legal processes, simply because it doesn't exists. So of course, nobody will have a real right to kill a leader, it is up to you to do it even if you don't have those rights. But count on that - violent elimination of gov will always be iligal.

I see that but everything good wear its price.

Well, things are quite simple, and not just about computers. You have to make your choice beetween these:
  • quality
  • performance / features
  • price
You cannot have everything, you must sacrify one of those. Or buy something from second hand, if you don't mind.

3. Since it's more like a flash drive, I guess, what happens if it got corrupted by viruses? Or any malware?

It just looks like flashdrive, but it is not. It is not holding any files you send to it, nor it's firmware execute any program from outside. It shouldn't be possible to download private key from it. It should be safe before malware.

I'm surprised that so many people write that if you haven't read Frank Herbert's novel you won't understand the movie. Well, why can't we abstract ourselves from the book and just enjoy a beautifully made film? Dynamic, entertaining, vivid and clever. Personally I haven't read any of Herbert's books and I really liked the movie. I watched it on 123movies. It's so classically filmed that from the very first minutes you literally dissolve into it. It's like you're transported into that fabulous fantasy desert of Arrakis. You really feel the heat of the sand and the wind. The sand grains swirling around you. Yes, the movie is over 2.5 hours long and I got a little tired towards the end. But to say that I was bored I can not.

I agree that the movie is engaging and persuasive and I understand that it can be number one for someone who didn't read a books. But people who read the books are missing that philosophical aspect of whole series and that seductive atmosphere of desert Fremen. For such a people is thus hard to abstract and enjoy  Wink.

I like the movie, but it was just half of first book. The more important things just didn't happen in the movie. And it wasn't good enough. So don't be lazy and read the book!  Grin You don't know what you are missing!

Careful about Thinkpads - there are not like used to be. Maybe some T or X class, but there are lowend Thinkpads too. Lenovo change the image of IBM's bullet proof laptops to casual consumer grade.

But thinkpads have very good properties for cheap.

What should i avoid?

Well, I am not sure by actual offer - didn't buy Lenovo for a long time. But what can I see on wikipedia, I would avoid to ThinkPad E and Yoga stuff. As I wrote before, class T and X are premium laptop class. Class P is oriented for maximum performance and class L is midclass. Avoid any Lenovo non-ThinkPads!

Alienware PC are better like dell, Lenovo and the likes

I cheked them but they are very expensive.

Alienware is manufactured by Dell. This class of products is designed for gaming, thus a little bit fancy and (of course) expensive.

My long time fav are Thinkpads.
I'm one of the proverbial Road Warriors (Field service engineer) and can attest that they work for decades despite constant heavy and not often kind usage. I still have a couple from 1993-1997 when they were still under the IBM brand - but actually made for IBM by Lenovo - aside from being slow (1 is 486M, another is Pentium-M cpu) and the backlights getting dim, they still work perfectly. All ThinkPads are highly dust and water resistant with built-in gutters to drain away spills out the bottom. Never had any issues with hinges going bad nor cracked cases both of which are something very common with other makes.

Very nice thing is that Thinkpads can be easily repaired if ever needed. Lenovo carried on the IBM traditions of assembling them with screws vs 'snap & crack' housing latches, providing actual repair manuals and of course parts lists. Currently using a ThinkPad P15 workstation w/gen 10 i7, 16gb memory & NVIDIA® Quadro RTX graphics. That replaced my T410 circa 2010 which still works perfectly, is just slow because of the i3 CPU and only 4gb of memory.

FYI: When IBM exited the small PC market starting in 2004 there was a massive outcry from users regarding the fate of the near-bulletproof ThinkPads. Lenovo paid attention to that and on May 1, 2005 paid IBM a very tidy sum of money to buy all rights to the ThinkPad brand name along with all other IBM PC's and continue production of this top-end gear. Ja ThinkPads are pricey but well worth it.

As for the other Lenovo laptops - meh. Still very well built for being 'Consumer grade' but they ain't ThinkPads...

Careful about Thinkpads - there are not like used to be. Maybe some T or X class, but there are lowend Thinkpads too. Lenovo change the image of IBM's bullet proof laptops to casual consumer grade.

Well, for datacenter you definitely need some kind of monitoring software for administrators (like Nagios) - it can send you a email, when some problem is detected. Power loss can be monitored by UPS - I am sure there is some in datacenter. UPS will be monitored by some software for that purpose (like Network UPS Tools).
11  Other / Off-topic / Re: Windows Laptop broken but OS is in Hard drive on: November 11, 2021, 10:03:14 AM
Can you just install your hard drive in your new machine?

I installed it but it can't read the OS. in Short I can't use windows. I have old laptop which I can open I tried it there but it can't read the OS

What kind of software key is it? Some time ago I succesfully extracted keys from Microsoft products by NirSoft ProduKey - I see it has a command line option to point the program for different Windows installation. So:
  • install both old drive and new drive to new computer;
  • install new Windows on new drive;
  • boot new Windows and install ProduKey;
  • use ProduKey on old Windows directory.

Maybe it’s worth asking him to assist in person to your repair, so that you don’t leave him with your datas alone. This could be counterproductive for opsec reasons anyway.

I have seen that some of the services that offer data rescue in my country offer just such a service - means that the client is present when rescuing data (which of course means a higher price). Yet even in such a situation, is it possible to be 100% sure that the data is being copied to only one location, and that this person is not doing another secret backup simultaneously?

Of course not. If he will use his computer how can you say that data is not copied somewhere else? You cannot be sure if he do not have som program copying your data elsewhere on the background.

I am a fan of books and, well, I think I like it. But it is early to say - first I must see a second half of the movie. But I don't think it will be a masterpiece. The book is masterpiece and IMHO movie is far from it.

Well, if you prefer mac os, you definitelly have a reason to do so. What is it? Can you easily switch to Windows?

What does it mean - powerfull? I have some 12" Dell refurbished with some embedded Intel and Linux onboard and it is powerfull enough for my needs. Do not ask yourself which laptop is more powerfull then other, rather ask yourself which one is powerfull enough for your application.

And of course - there are lots of very important properties and features other then performance.

I want to buy the better option because in future when i need performance i will have it.

Well, I think it is OK to estimate your needs for the (near) future. But remember that (lets say) CPU which is considered as highend today, will be considered as slow power-consuming shit tommorow. Computer hardware is really really fast progressive. You need to consider other aspects in the case of laptop, at least: power consuption (battery runtime), size and weight of machine.

You told that you prefer Mac. Why? Just UX, or are you using some apps on it? Maybe these applications do not have alternatives on Windows or maybe file formats produced by that applications can't be opened on alternatives correctly. So first question to answer is: are you free to switch beetween OSes and apps?

Is it performance your only criteria? Why laptop then? Desktop is much more versatile, more powerfull and cheaper option. So this is second question to answer. If there are other criteria, please, let us know about it. We need to know to help you. If you do not know much about computers and cannot named your criteria, that's fine. Just let's talk about your regular computer usage.

  • What do you use your computer for?
  • What kind of applications are you using?
  • Are you working at one place or you need to take-away? How often?

Remember 'What goes around, comes around' it's not just a phrase but a harsh reality of life. A betrayal relationship doesn't ever last long.
We can't expect happiness by cheating someone. You cannot ever reach a level of mental satisfaction by cheating someone.
Remember if you ever do something bad or betray someone you would have to face the same in the future.

I understand what do you mean. The problem is that reality is not so simple as you wrote: Alice is bad because she was cheating Frank, Mary is bad because she betrayed Alice and Frank is bad because... Because of what?

We were discussing this with Cnut237. There is nothing like objective good and bad. It is just subjective point of view. Thing that can be considered as cheating or betrayal by someone is totally fine for someone else. Who should tell what is and what is not OK?

16  Other / Politics & Society / Re: psychological aspect of human behaviour related to sex on: November 02, 2021, 12:38:58 PM
It's not entirely individual, no. I think I started by saying there is a 'default' right and wrong which is whatever is defined that way by the conventions of the society. A personal right and wrong may differ from the default. There is huge pressure to conform, so in many instances the personal ideas of right and wrong may be suppressed in favour of going along with the crowd view in order to fit in.
We could consider homosexuality as an example. Over the course of the last fifty years, in many societies, the default (and legal) definition has migrated from being 'wrong' to 'right'. And obviously many people have suppressed their homosexuality, which they believe to be 'right', because society in general, or their peer group specifically, believed (or still believe) it to be 'wrong'.

We are getting very close to basic question I am thinking about: Where did that default right and wrong come from? What do you think is the basic of this crowd view?

psychology is simple
its the thought of if the friend is banging her ex now. then her friend might/must have wanted to before the divorce and so thoughts of betrayal that the friend might/must have cheated with him whilst first marriage was going on. or that the female friend may have been less loyal to alice in the first place and just wanted some frank meat between her legs all along. pretending to be friend with alice just to get reasons to be near frank

yes it might not be the case. but thats not the point its what alice might be thinking could have happened

the other aspect is things like. alice the now ex wife cant have open conversations with mary about the divorce and complications of the first marriage because mary is now getting pounded by the very guy alice has negative thoughts about. so from a therapy stand point. alice cant openly vent her frustrations about frank to the woman now yearning for franks genitals. so its a loss of trust and companionship

its just basic psychology. no one wants to talk to a person knowing what they may say might get back to the other party they are talking about. no one likes to open up about someone where the person you are talking to might be biased towards the person your talking about.

its a trust and loyalty thing.

Nice. I understand. But Mary is not obligated to do psychology stuff for Alice, so it is not a reason to be angry to Mary if Alice started to thing that she cannot have opened conversations about Frank.
17  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best brand for laptop on: November 02, 2021, 11:33:11 AM
I have to add one more observation, because IMHO lots of people who recommend some manufacturer are wrong. Lots of manufacturers have different classes of products divided based on quality, price, features etc.

Lets take Dell as an example. This manufacturer has some classes for home users (low cost Inspiron, high end XPS, Alienware for gaming, etc). Other classes are addressed for business customers (low cost Vostro for small office, high end Latitude, high performance Precision, etc).

We have similarities in other manufacturers. HP's Pavilion and Envy for home customers and it's ProBook and EliteBook for business. Lenovo's IdeaPad and low cost ThinkPads for home users and highend ThinkPads "X" and "T" series for business. I do not have much experience with other manufacturers, but I am sure it will be the same.

If you choose some high end computer from whatever manufacturer, I am sure that you can be satisfated. Personally I don't like HP much, but I saw perfect EliteBooks I cannot say anything bad about it. Lenovo the same. So when I want to buy laptop I do not looking for some specific manufacturer only - I am choosing from offer of high end laptops from various manufacturers and choose some with fits my needs.
18  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The end of democracy in Europe on: November 01, 2021, 12:29:18 PM
People in Europe forgot long time ago how cool is the life in totality. People will gladly exchange their freedom for a peace of convenience or for appearance of security. What can we expect?
19  Other / Politics & Society / Re: psychological aspect of human behaviour related to sex on: November 01, 2021, 12:22:07 PM
it is totally natural to assert yourself at the detriment of others, but I am not sure if it is OK to do it by force without using rational arguments.
People do it all the time; you only have to look at some of the anti-vaxxer threads on here to see people starting from an emotion-derived conclusion and then attempting to prop it up with logic. But it's not just them, of course, I'm sure we all do this sometimes, to some extent.

Funny you started to talk about this. Two different opinions, but I hope that respect or at least tolerance for other's action are on both sides... But it is off topic here.

There's no single answer, because the root cause will differ from person to person. You'd have to unpack someone's whole identity to understand why they feel a certain way about something.

Of course. But here I would like to go back to my original questions - I am observing some level of dogmatic view to matters related to sex across whole society. So maybe it is not so individual as it can be seemed?
20  Other / Politics & Society / Re: psychological aspect of human behaviour related to sex on: October 31, 2021, 05:08:16 PM
I think the underlying cause is that wherever you have a group of people interacting with each other (even when this is only two people), you have a situation where each participant in the interaction wants different things. The outcomes that you as an individual want are 'right', and those you don't want are 'wrong'. Your own 'right' and 'wrong' will differ from other people's 'right' and 'wrong'.

In this situation, for Alice, the idea of Frank being with Marry is 'wrong'. It doesn't really matter what in her mind the 'right' outcome is, whether she would like to be with Peter but also stay with Frank at the same time, or whether she doesn't want anyone to be with Frank, or whether she just doesn't want her friend to be with him. It's enough for Alice that Frank being with Marry is 'wrong'. She has not reached this definition of 'wrong' through any logical reasoning, it's simply an emotional position. What she then does is to try to seek any reason she can find that might support this conclusion. She then decides that Marry's action is not compatible with the rules of friendship... because this is a reason that supports her desired conclusion, that Marry+Frank=wrong. Alice's reasoning is superficial and inauthentic. Her 'reason' for Marry's action being bad is not a reason at all, it's simply a mental prop to support a pre-established conclusion. It happens all the time. Consider for example the painful logical contortions that creationists will go through in order to deny the truth of evolution through natural selection.

Yes, I understand and agree with principle that good and bad are terms we use to describe our subjective point of view. And this point of view may be based on our actual emotions only. What I consider as pathological is the human need to force own opinion to others. It may looks OK, because it is totally natural to assert yourself at the detriment of others, but I am not sure if it is OK to do it by force without using rational arguments.

You were talking about Alices's pre-established conclusion coming from emotional position that Mary's actions are wrong. Where does this specific conclusion come from? What is the origin of such a judgement?
