Is there any evidence that DPR, or one of the marshal's dealt with, or acquired physicals in any way? Pretty sure that a coin and its addy with that kind of verifiable provenance, has a premium attached (unlike it being owned by Charlie Lee).

And, who is going to contact the DOJ to ask what they do/did with peeled physicals?

I need to point out that I wrote an article about this case for Cointelegraph  Cool

Seized physicals, maybe?? (im thinking the recent young fat asian guy with glasses, whos name i cant remember and video i cant find, whos officially seized physical collection was flashed on screen for a second) ....which begs the question, what would US authorities do with these after they possibly peeled them?

Knew I had the photo somewhere - apologies going very off topic now Smiley

Well, for me, thats the recently peeled x6 25s. Thanks for posting.

That blue tape is Caldwell's handy work, also.

Disappointing to see the 10 BTC go for the loaded value. Probably not the best timing given the sentiment around BTC and the broader financial markets.
A long held, but controversial, opinion of mine is that we will see the high load value coins (like the Cas 25 or even 10) trade at less than face value at some point.  There are risks such as a private key being illegible over time, the hologram has been tampered with, etc which will be priced in as the USD value of the coins increase.
From the buyer's perspective, I get it. But from the seller's perspective, it doesn't make sense to sell under face value, unless he knows it's been tampered with. And in that case, it makes no sense at all for the buyer to buy it. Long term, I wouldn't be surprised if loaded collectibles can't be sold anymore. There's no reason for the buyer to trust it if the seller accepts less than the loaded value, and there's no reason for a honest owner to accept less than the loaded value.

I imagine most of these will just get peeled by the owners... no one wants to take a loss be it fiat or crypto

Well, someone recently done just that with x6 series 2 Cas 25s....in the same block!
https://casasciustracker.com/?sort=10&flt0_balance_equals=0&flt1_type_equals=S2-COIN-25&page_size=100&desc=1

Now seems like an odd time to peel those coins. Maybe someone passed away or there was a robbery. It makes little sense to hold for so long and then peel after a massive price drop. I doubt the owner was scared of BTC dropping further. What would get me to peel mine would be a massive bubble where I was afraid the price would drop before I could find a buyer.

Hi, thanks for you comment.
Where I live the bitcoin is illegal. Where I store it is legal (in bank in France)

I suggest any prospective buyer to only use a trusted escrow like Minerjones on a transaction of this amount. Too risky otherwise.
I don't understand the escrow system, can you explain me more about this system?

To less than 35BTC it's more interesting for me peeling it.

I put my 25BTC up for sale on here in 2017. I was asking 33BTC. My highest offer was 28.3BTC. I peeled it, consoling myself that i didnt need to deal with delivery risk, and that i get to keep and enjoy it, and can sell the peeled coin easier and quicker.

Have a gander at this thread, for its sentiment/s regarding high value funded coins, exactly like your Cas.....
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5463281.msg62735257#msg62735257
Its showing that high funded coins have little or no premium value, even when traded at established venues.

If you are offered 27BTC+, get on a plane and bite the arm off asap.

Blimey. Really??.....
".....An example of the regular variety 25 LTC realized $13,200 in our April 2022 sale with a reported mintage of 495 coins....."

That would be nice to see again. Roll on June.

Probably looks better in real, it's massive and shiny after all. Does have an ugly vibe to it, though, lol. Still a crazy piece of [Bitcoin] history.

Im qouting @Blazed, and i remember a few peeps backing the opinion. Kinda agree. Yeah, ugly vibe, feels accurate...but with a weird endearing attribute, cos it still makes me smile, and i still get a little bit fuzzy, when in hand. lol.

12  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] SAFEST WAY TO SWEEP YOUR COINS? PLEASE SHARE YOUR WAY AS WELL on: April 23, 2023, 08:01:15 AM
For anytime that I use a hot wallet to sweep low amount of BTC in any wallet, I have a dedicated old phone that is only used thru wifi.

In other words it’s a dead phone…cleaned out with only the operating software and in my example Mycellium wallet.

I activate only when I want to use the mycelium hot wallet thru my home wifi, so its totally free of any malware or viruses and not used for anything else but this.

I use an old android phone, thats been freshly re-installed. I then make sure im updated to latest OS build, then install a Coinomi apk, and use that to sweep.
I just think, if a fresh device can in some way be corrupted (less a dodgy Coinomi apk), with a smart stealer, within the first and only 5 minutes of internet awareness....we'd all have many more problems to stress over. Feels 'safe' for me.
13  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] 2015 Kialara Ruby Labyrinth #12 on: April 20, 2023, 05:49:02 AM
Any interest?

Only 20 of these made!!! Cool

Yeah, but that starting bid kills me when I think back in time lol... Cheesy

I have a faint memory of TMAN being one of a few peeps to secure a number of these.....and put up for resale on here, for around $3000, at that time.

Edit: ......or was it 'To the Moon'. Sorry, ole bastards memory at work, here!

Got worried there. Not being able to easily shift, the perfect entry level Cas, would not have been a good look....
15  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Titan Mint Coins- Serious Issue- Titan Mint Bitcoin Coins ***NEW UPDATES*** on: April 16, 2023, 06:38:00 AM
Somebody  try PM detector on their coins? Like Sigma Metalytics?

I own a pk silver Titan  coin so i do not really care if it is silver.
But gold coin bought from an individual with such a terrible feedback, mmmm i would be cautious and test it.

I bought two gold coins from Tim when he came here a few years back and was selling some gold coins.

All coins were sold without any holograms. I sent them both to MinerJones to confirm they were pure gold.

Both came as gold with no issues. Gotta say I love his coin designs...especially the gold ones.

Too bad this shit is happening.
I bought a 1BTC 2013 from Titan Mint. I peeled it when Tim replied to me, with bullshit regarding the forks.

Im looking at the coin as i type. Would this even sell at auction?
16  Economy / Collectibles / Re: My Cold Keys Just Got Swiped! All Cold Kuntz!! on: April 14, 2023, 06:53:59 AM
I was chatting with a lawyer in the EU who's familiar with this situation.  His words "Unfortunately I'm 99% sure that taking legal action is completely useless. The "damage" is relatively small and mostly for people outside of France, so this will definitely not be considered a priority.  And obviously the fact that it concerns crypto makes it even more complex.  There is no real legal framework, no customer protection legislation.  Also how in the earth is someone going to explain the concept of physical crypto to a French civil servant".

I just wanted to share.  I don't care if I see any money back from all this, I'd rather see others affected get it over wasting it trying to sue him.  My last thoughts on all this.

If what you are saying is true...then its a damn shame that this thief is gonna get away with all of the BTC he has stolen and premiums destroyed! Not counting also that he has stained our hobby for years to come as well.

All I would want is him to be held accountable for his actions. But like you mentioned it seems that he is going to get away with it. Its a damn shame really how such a thing can happen and nothing can be done.

Would this fall under a cyber crime? And if so I am sure France has. Also if the FBI were contacted would they be able to go thru InterPol about this since many USA members have been affected.

Not sure about France, but if the alleged thief resides in England, and you know their name and address, and police are not interested enough, you would start a civil small claims court process. You dont need a laywer/solicitor. But that means you would need to explain, to possibly a legacy judge, what theft looks like in the blockchain world. Hmmm.

We can all see how criminally pathetic and desperate this piss-flap is, but I think you would need more than one French citizen who was/is affected by this, to officially report it to the french police, for you to have any chance of this escalating to a criminal matter.

Looks like those coins were resold by HardBTC.org This was a very early Bitcoin related UK Ltd company owned and operated by David Bailey (not the American Bitcoin guy), from 2012. He was Mike Caldwells' main guy in the UK, back in the day.

19  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Ballet launching Physical Bitcoins! Loaded PURE Bitcoin... on: March 31, 2023, 12:37:52 PM
I knew there was an issue with credit cards purchasing crypto but whats the problem with debit cards? Debit card is whst you use on the exchange?

Debit cards have a higher success rate than credit cards, but still too many are being rejected. Feel free to give it try.
Are there any patterns you can identify regarding buyer country location?
20  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Stacks Bowers Physical Cryptocurrency Auction 2023 Thread on: March 31, 2023, 08:07:44 AM
Would love to see a 10BTC Casascius go for auction there....loaded and unloaded.

I can't recall ever seeing a 10 BTC peeled Cas coin for sale on forum in all these years here.

Yeah, rare as hen's teeth Tongue
I have only ever seen one in all my years....

For you to say that means quite alot!  LOL

In all my years in crypto...I was able to acquire a silver 10 BTC redeemed one....and once came across a 10 BTC silver/gilt in very bad shape on ebay years ago. Since then its been pretty dead.

If you ever want to buy a loaded one of either type, you know where you can find them… I think the reason they aren’t seen more often is because buyers want them for 10.5 BTC and sellers want to sell them for 15 BTC. The only sale I can recall ever seeing here was I believe Anduck selling his. I think it was for sale for 14.5 BTC for years before someone finally snagged it.
Is that the whale guy? (avatar of whale rising from the sea??). He seemed to buy much Casascius. I sold him my one and only 10BTC Cas while he was travelling UK shores, back in the day. It was part of a multi-coin deal, so cant remember how i broke down the cost of the 10BTC Cas.
