In some cases you don't even need to change anything, just mine the new genesis block and start a new altchain (like Bytecoin)

.. but since the last few weeks it's almost impossible to find something really valuable here. I think it's just impossible now to follow all those new "coins". I stopped a two or three days ago at YACoin and ELAcoin and just don't get what happened after them. FC2, GLD, PWC... wait a second, WTF are they? But wait, maybe there is also a WTF coin already...
I think since now we just need to let the market decide which of those altcoins will survive. I hope when I get back to read this subforum frequently in one or two moths there will be clear situation with new (> March 2013) altcoins. Personally I'd like to see YAC and ELA still live, and I have big hopes for CureCoin.

release with full windows exe, full guide to mining and ensure everyone has a fair chance. Better to have a perfect launch rather than a rush job.
This. Even if some people hoard a lot of coins at the beginning, the coins will be legitimate and make you rich OP. So this seems to be the fairest altcoin release in spring 2013 +1

I don't think so as this coin is considered dead or almost dead.. But it's still possible to connect to FBX network

Here is an interesting example of real-life transaction with cryptocoins: In early bitcoin days someone bought two pizzas for 10000 bitcoins. It was someone from this forum. http://quezi.com/14845I still can't sleep when I think about it. Ten thousand bitcoins... I hope those pizzas were tasty.

Litecoin also started like this, there were only exchange for BTC and other altcoins from that time (like IXC, I0C, SC, GG). And now there are many web services accepting LTC. Most of them are gambling sites, but still LTC is the only one beside BTC which can be used outside coin exchanges

+1 for OP it's realy hard to find some interesting post here. Maybe an subforum for all the new coins? Would help to find much more infos here.
Moderators don't agree to create subforums because this is BITCOINtalk and altcoins are only guests here.. You might try http://cryptocointalk.com/ - it's a new board dedicated to altcoins

BTC works - it really does work well. So, why would a real world merchant need to use another coin? Please, tell me why.
BTC = long term investments, big transactions (like buying a car or real estate) LTC = everyday use for small transactions. BTC is just too slow for everyday use with small amounts. LTC wins here IMO.

Whats with all the self-moderated topics lately?
For false transaction threads like "buying 1000 frankos/royals or whatever for 1000 BTC" and right after "thank you, great transaction" so people could believe that this new alt-scam is worth something.

I don't know if it's only my issue but I've noticed that this site loads very very slow..

I think that only PPC (aka peercoin) and YAC are worth watching them. Both are innovative to the previous altcoins, YAC is the first altcoin with scrypt-jane algo (GPU resistant at the moment, CPU only mining).
Chinacoin is pump&dump made on chinese subforum first. BBQ was made rather for fun but then gain some popularity. BTE is 1:1 copy of bitcoin, nothing innovative
