Did the latest github update break steemd? I installed it on a few computers yesterday without much issue. Today I've installed it on another and once I get the config.ini edited and start steemd, it doesn't load the blockchain, instead it dumps/scrolls

FYI http://steem.secretmoonbass.com/ is a STEEM block explorer made by @roadscape

Thanks for letting us know abit.  Also thanks roadscape for getting something together so quickly.  Any plans on adding other transactions to the explorer?
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][STEEM][POW] - NO IPO | NO PREMINE | NO INSTAMINE (relaunch) on: April 09, 2016, 04:38:42 AM
I checked my miner today and I think I was getting the same fork issue.  I restarted the miner so hopefully that will fix it.  Not quite sure yet.

If it doesn't try to launch it with the --resync-blockchain flag.  You will have to redownload the chain, but the fork should resolve.  It did on my forked nodes.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][STEEM][POW] - NO IPO | NO PREMINE | NO INSTAMINE (relaunch) on: April 04, 2016, 09:27:22 PM
Steem will soon be available on BitShares in this market.

https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/market/OPEN.BTC_OPEN.STEEM

This exchange pair is brought to you by Open Ledger  (aka. CCEDK).

If you want to trade for FIAT you can also trade this pair:

https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/market/OPEN.USD_OPEN.STEEM

You can place bids in these markets while we wait for Open Ledger to enable STEEM deposits / withdraws.

Great news.  Thanks for the update.

I would be interested in running a witness node for steem.  I have been an active BTS witness for the last 2 years or so.

Very interesting.  I'm not gonna pretend that I quite understand what you are doing yet with the vesting, but I'll keep reading.  In the mean time its awesome to see another coin based on graphene.  Sexiest framework ever.  I am currently mining.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: help ENDWAR on: February 04, 2016, 05:23:55 AM
if I get this right

steps
1.  give asset to the war makers
2.  raise the price proposition until they ENDWAR

perhaps they might game the system too Wink
make a WAR seem unendable, asset goes rock bottom, "That's a sure bet that war will never come to peace!"

War-makers buy it up, kiss and make peace.

pay-o-lah!

[repeat]

I don't know where you are getting this give assets to war makers thing.  I personally have borrowed some ENDWAR into existence, and begun giving it out on twitter free of charge.  So far I have given it to Lew Rockwell, Scott Horton, and antiwar.com.  I would not consider any of them warmakers.
also what oracles are making the calls?

"end to hostilites between Saudi Arabia backed pro government forces, and the Houthi rebels"

who determines the truth value?

As the description states the final decision will be with the bitshares committee.  The committee is a special bitshares account that has a weighted multi sig active authority that is determined by the votes of all of the bitshares stake.  There are between 11 and 1001 committee members with the number and their active key weight determined by voting.  To close out this market will require 50% +1 of the voting stake of bitshares.  I am personally currently on the committee, and if I am still on it on 1-1-2017 I will vote true on this market if there is a peace settlement or long lasting cease fire, or if there are no reports of hostilities between Saudi backed forces and rebel forces for a significant amount of time.

If you are looking for a means of making money then I would suggest one of the other prediction markets that bitshares has to offer.  You can bet on the SuperBowl, Democratic Nomination, Republican Nomination, US general election, Crude oil prices, S&P prices, or the price bitshares.  All of these markets will be much easier to close out.  These markets might be more to your liking.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / help ENDWAR on: February 04, 2016, 02:16:31 AM
There is a new prediction market on bitshares.  It is called ENDWAR.  Description is at http://cryptofresh.com/a/ENDWAR it is
Quote
This asset will be worth 1USD if the ongoing war in yemen is ended before 2017-01-01 00:00 UDT. A peace settlement or long lasting cease fire would result in this market resolving to true. There must be an end to hostilites between Saudi Arabia backed pro government forces, and the Houthi rebels. Anti terrorism activities taken on a small scale against AQAP, or any ISIS affiliate should not prevent this market from paying out. The final decision on if hostilites are ended will be in the hands of the bitshares committee.

If you would like to support ENDWAR then you can borrow the asset and either sell it on the market or give it away.  By increasing the number of people that would benefit from a cessation of hostilities in Yemen we increase the chances that these hostilities will end.  If  you do this then you will only lose money if the war in Yemen is actually ended.  I think that is a goal that is worth paying a little bit towards.  You can borrow, buy, or sell at https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/market/ENDWAR_USD

Below is a little more explanation of bitshares prediction markets.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Bitshares prediction markets are assets that will resolve as either being worth 0 of the base asset or 1 of the base asset.  If the prediction market resolves as true then the asset will be worth 1.  If it resolves as false then the asset will be worth 0.  Prior to the market being resolved the price can fluctuate between 0 and 1.

If you believe that a market will resolve as true then any purchase price below 1 will make you a winner.  The price you are willing to pay is the odds you are willing to take that it will resolve as true.  If you purchase at .5 and the market resolves as true you have doubled your base asset.  If you purchase at .25 and the market resolves as true you have quadrupled your base asset.

On the other side if you believe you the market will resolve to false you can borrow the asset and sell it.  To borrow the asset you must put up 1 to 1 collateral of the base asset.  If the base asset is BTS you must post 1 BTS for each 1 prediction market asset you wish to borrow.  If the market resolves as false then you are able to buy the asset back at a price of 0 and release your collateral.  Once again the odds that you bet at is based upon the price that you sell at.  If you borrow 1 prediction market asset and post 1 BTS as collateral then sell that 1 prediction market asset at .5 you now have .5 BTS risked, and an open position with 1 BTS held as collateral.  If the market resolves as false then you get that 1BTS back in full and you have doubled your backing asset of .5 BTS to 1 BTS.  If instead you sell at .75 then you have .25 BTS at risk and if the market resolves as false then you have quadrupled your backing asset.

ENDWAR is a bitUSD backed asset, so it requires 1 bitUSD to borrow 1 ENDWAR.

Please let me know if any of this needs clarification.

so the world's first super bowl robot bookie is alive?

Kinda.  The network is not the house though.  The network just allows private parties to take bets in a trust free manor.

Ok, I am trying to figure this out, so who will provide the feed on december 2016?... what happens if the person doesnt enter the result or enters a wrong feed?

Right now settlement is dependent upon the creator of the asset, so in that respect settlement is centralized.  Eventually, price feeds similar to smartcoin price feeds will allow for a completely decentralized solution.

I do not think this is safe to use until settlement becomes decentralized. Augur and Truthcoin are developing far better systems.

Seems that the market creator is testing this approach out. SPORTS.SBLAFC has been set to a committee owned account, and the newest market.  BTSPREDICT is a committee fed account.

In bitshares the committee is a multi sig account whose active permissions are voted on by all stake holders.  You could say that these two markets are now secured by the network.

When it is time to close out the market a committee proposal will be made.  It will require 51% of the active authority of the committee account to close the market.  Even after 51% is achieved there is a minimum 1 hour review period during which misbehaving committee members can be voted out.

Edit.  SPFIVE and WTICRUDE are also now updated to committee fed assets.

There has been talk of moving the authority to close the market out to either the committee, or a committee owned account.  I think this gets rid of the last real weakness of bts prediction markets.  I'm hoping the asset issuer will convert them to a form of committee fed asset.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: There is still widespread confusion about BitShares PTS and Protoshares on: September 27, 2015, 03:00:28 AM
you are clearly subhuman.

The guy that is always calling others fascist and communist says this.  The irony.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are BanxShares as good as GAW Paycoin? on: September 26, 2015, 09:59:07 PM

When I saw you whining on polo about buying pts, I actually felt kinda bad for you.  It would suck if someone hadn't done any basic homework and had lost money because they had based their decisions on outdated information.

So, if I acquire more PTS, it will still count towards the future DAC's(minus BTSX)?

This is damned exciting.  This dac is one of the first things that attracted me to bitshares.

You bought BitShares PTS because you thought BitShares DNS was going to be big, and now you're trying to shit on me for being fooled by BitShares.

How many weeks did BitShares DNS exist?

Okay.  Lets start with your quote from July of last year.  You didn't actually quote me correctly.  You quoted the person that I responded to.  The full quote is below.
What's the difference between BTS X vs BTS XT? Or are they the same product? Where are the other DAC's?

If any newly mined PTS, will that get more BTS X or was that only for the Feb 28th snapshot only?

X is the official chain.  XT is the test network.  There was some talk of naming a stripped down chain designed to do nothing other than get the 2-28 snapshot liquid, XT.  Newly mined PTS will not get you any BTSX, but there are more DACS coming.

So, if I acquire more PTS, it will still count towards the future DAC's(minus BTSX)?

Correct.

As you can see I was responding to someone with questions and answering that question in the moment.  Their question was "So, if I acquire more PTS, it will still count towards the future DAC's(minus BTSX)?  You will notice that they did not say

"if I acquire more PTS, right now or in the near future, and assuming that nothing untoward happens such as nuclear war, civil war, meteorite strikes, supervolcanos, marshal law, and or any other world shattering disaster, or act of god then it will still count towards the future dacs.(minus BTSX)? and can you promise that this is the case and will never change."

Of course they wouldn't say that.  All of those things are implied in the question.  My response "Correct"  Also did not contain any of the myriad of possible things that could prevent PTS from being used as a snapshot.  My words were true when they were said, even though they did not contain a disclaimer about all possible outcomes.  I was attempting to communicate with speeddemon, and I believe successfully did so.  Whats more PTS purchased at that time was in fact used as a snapshot.  My words were true and if speeddemon had listened to me and purchased pts he would now own bts, notes, and soon to be identabits (I have probably forgotten a sharedrop target)  If someone reads this response 14 months later and doesn't check to ensure this is still true then it is their fault for not doing their own due dilligence.

In regards to DNS, It is one of the main things that initially attracted me to bitshares.  I still think using centralized systems that are not censorship resistant is a huge threat to our security and safety.  I am still hoping that someone will solve this issue in a more satisfactory way than namecoin has.  That is a far cry from

You bought BitShares PTS because you thought BitShares DNS was going to be big, and now you're trying to shit on me for being fooled by BitShares.

This quote is demonstrably false runpaint.  Why did you lie runpaint?

I hope this exercise will demonstrate why your method of pulling up ancient quotes out of context is a dirty trick that should not be directly responded to.  It takes far more time to respond to these attacks than to carry them out.  Even when the attack is ill formed, and weak.  If you would like your system of attacking to be more effective in the future I would suggest you only quote old things, and never respond directly runpaint.  It was your responses and gross misrepresentation of what happened in this thread that led me to stop taking you seriously.  The problem with negative attack ads is that the viewer can end up taking a negative view of the attacker instead.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are BanxShares as good as GAW Paycoin? on: September 26, 2015, 07:43:18 PM
I an not a banx investor.  I am a bitshares guy, and was interested in lottoshares, and was actually a little concerned about banx involvement since I had seen the beginning of this thread.  After reading through yesterday's fun, I feel much more comfortable with banx.  I'm still not sure if I'll buy into lottoshares, but if I don't it will not because of a fear of Banx.

Runpaint you have shown yourself to be a juvenile internet warrior.  After this I doubt I will ever take anything you say seriously.  Which is sad, because you could probably provide some value somewhere.

When I saw you whining on polo about buying pts, I actually felt kinda bad for you.  It would suck if someone hadn't done any basic homework and had lost money because they had based their decisions on outdated information.  After seeing how you have used the permanent nature of the internet and the vagaries of the human language to completely distort what has happened in this thread I no longer believe anything you have said.

DE doesn't know Streisand Effect

DE doesn't know what words like communist and fascist mean.  Or at least is incapable of using them properly.

I'm not sure if we should blame public education, the main stream media, alternate media, his parents.  I have tried to communicate with him, and I have come to the conclusion that he is in no way interested in communication.

He is the type of person that would talk about free speech if he was told to shush in a movie theater.  He might honestly believe that he was being censored.  I'm not sure you can reason with a person like that.

I would take him more seriously if he was able to
1) articulate an intelligent point, rather than spout large words he obviously doesn't understand.
2) Show a modicum of respect for private property, and  the slightest manners.

While I would hope the above is apparent to all, I fear that the mindless hostility exemplified by DE, the media, and politicians from the right and the left is so prevalent because it works.

I fear for a society that allows such vitriol to be taken as serious arguments.  I fear for the minds that are swayed by such.  Now I am getting off topic.

If you are interested in learning the truth about bitshares and the motivation of the people behind it I would suggest you head on over to bitsharestalk.org or post in one of the many threads in this forum.  https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=2853.0 Is one of my personal favorites as its the thread that did the most to attract me to the bitshares community in the first place.

We should all blame public education, the mainstream media, alternate media and your parents that you are too uneducated to realize that there is no difference between corporate fascism and communism.  For each is control of the state by corporations, the former via state capitalism and the latter via state socialism.  Both resulting in a state monopoly which destroys the middle class and leads to an ever expanding disparity between the rich and the poor.

I respect private property.  You Bitshares Communists are the ones which implemented a system which allows Chairman Stanlin to seize money out of peoples' accounts and redistribute it to his own wallet.  You're all a bunch of liars, cheaters and thieves.

Words have meaning.  When you use two different words that have distinct meanings and claim there is no difference between them you just show your ignorance.  While I would agree with the sentiment that both corporate fascism and communism are evil, they are most certainly not the same.  You continue to show that you clearly do not understand what you are talking about.

Identabit is a step in the right direction from the centralized solutions we have available today.  It is an upgrade compared to credit cards or paypal.  If adoption takes off, I will most certainly use it.

I wont be completely happy with it, but I will be happier with it than the current system.  We cannot allow our desire for complete and utter change to cloud our vision when steps in the right direction come about.

I am not speaking of violating principles.  If anyone here is purely using crypto in their daily lives, I both envy and applaud them.  I however am in what I believe to be the majority that use all sorts of state controlled forms of electronic payment when necessary.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitShares 2.0 on: August 30, 2015, 11:32:27 AM

So you are whining not because you didn't get sharedropped on, but because someone else got more than you?  I really am trying to understand.  There have been numerous sharedrops on top of BTS, and there are more coming.  As a bts holder you will receive your part of that sharedrop.  Why are you upset that someone else will receive more than you?

Envy is disgusting.  Rather than attempting to improve your own attractiveness as a sharedrop target you are complaining that someone else is getting more than you.  Hmm.  I wonder if there is a good reason for that.

I still did't received all my BTS because I invested after 28/2. Envy is disgusting? What about clear fraud. Obviously you are new investor. You will learn. Just buy more BTS. Good luck.
I donated to ags after 2-28 as well.  I am also not happy with the current price.  The difference is that rather than complaining I am trying to make things better and ensure that 2.0 lives up to its potential.  I donated with full knowledge that the btsx snapshot had already been taken.  Im sure you did as well.
