1  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The so called fuel subsidy removal. on: December 28, 2023, 09:10:53 AM
In my own candid opinion, I disagree with this so called fuel subsidy removal. Standard of living was better during the era of fuel subsidy. It was better when public funds were misappropriated and Embezzled. Let them eat the money and allow us to buy fuel at a subsidized rate.
Imagine since the inception of this subsidy removal dating from 29th of may 2023, I have been unable to run my power generating set (generator) due to high cost of fueling. I now buy Ice block to cool my drinks since I can't use generator to power my refrigerator In my local grocery store.
The one that shock me again is that port Harcourt to owerri I used to pay a total fare #1,500 from my residence to mbaitoli in owerri, I now paid a total amount #11,000. This is disheartening.
When I fuel my motorcycle with #1000 just to go and buy something, I can't use that fuel for the next day because I will be having empty tank. My church generator always shuts down during service since we can't afford sufficient fuel.
The one that anger me the most is that, the so called palliative which was meant to cushion the effect of the subsidy was not evenly distributed, what got to my locality was one cup of rice for one person, I learnt that two bags of rice was given to our chief, he reserved one bag for him and his family and then share one bag to the whole community he also had share from this one bag meant for the community for himself again as though he has collected before. Just the same way he reserved one for himself  I know that is how everybody that had come in contact from that top(federal) had been stealing, hiding and reserving for themselves. What a country.

I know where you are coming from as is biting hard on Nigerians big time. Your discussion have mainly 2 believes 1. People who believed is justified and 2. People who believed is not justified, which I belong to. Whichever believe one belongs to I believe they can defend it. Let me talk about my believe.

Let's start by asking ourselves what subsidy is, it is a premium government pays to augment price of of goods and services in other to bring down the price for citizen to access them cheaper, which is part of government responsibility to its citizens.
Inasmuch government has told us fuel subsidy is a scam, the question we need to ask is ''how is it a scam''? because if you already knew the problem to fuel subsidy, which is scam, then why not address it instead of removing the subsidy
Some people will say is not easy to eradicated the corruption going on in the oil sector but the truth of this matter is that government owns all these ministries and parastatals governing these sector so are we saying government can not control what it owns?
My own take is that government is not ready to do what is right for citizens, they chose the convinient way out but when it has to do with them in governance they will defend it with their blood. When a governor in the south west was sworn in and discovered the level of corruption in the civil service he decided on his own to stop it and put lots of controls in place to curb those excesses and today their citizens are enjoying better dividends (most especially roads) that many governors before him failed to do.
2  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: If bitcoin is not decentralized currency what would have happen to bitcoin on: December 28, 2023, 08:38:52 AM
If Bitcoin isn't decentralized I know for sure it would be controlled by the world powerful economy by now and that is why Bitcoin is distinct and stronger day by day. This is equally the reason why governments are not adopting it's use as they have no say in it's usability & regulations
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Know, But Can i Invest In Bitcoin? on: December 28, 2023, 08:23:49 AM
What is worth doing is worth doing well. You need to understand any business or investment you want to engaged in, with this you will be able to make right judgement on amount to commit.
Don't get it wrong, Bitcoin is a profit investment worth investing in but you need to full understand everything about it and other cryptos.
4  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Let the provider provide for all hustlers on: December 28, 2023, 07:47:50 AM

5  Economy / Economics / Re: Would you prefer to own a luxury watch or invest in bitcoin or other assets? on: December 27, 2023, 02:00:13 PM
High end watches are good source of investment as it commands good return on investment over time like paintings. Investors should always diversify into many portfolios because there are up and downs for all investment.
6  Economy / Economics / Re: Food security in the world has been shaken by Russia's actions on: December 27, 2023, 09:16:43 AM
Russia only weaponize this which of course is a strategy to win war that's why all countries needs to come together to discourage any form of war because at the end the weaklings suffers the most
7  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / YOUTHS AND 2024 on: December 27, 2023, 08:04:34 AM
With the saying that youths are the leaders of tomorrow, which I believe doesn't really resonate with most Nigeria youth, how are we going to change this narration come 2024 as hope for youths in this country are getting dimmer and dimmer by each day.
I need us to deliberate what Youths can do to take their future back as things are not looking good as 2024 approaches
8  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: The mental strength of Nigerian youths in the face of Hardship and pressure. on: December 27, 2023, 07:55:53 AM
This is known as survival instinct. If you are boxed to a corner with no where to go you will be surprised where ideas will come from to get out of the scenario. Even in Nigeria, children of rich men are just book-wise not street as they have nothing to think about but many ordinary Nigerians have to enter street to survive since they have to fend for themselves.
9  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Make Una Avoid Ethnicity Here in the Forum. We're all One. on: December 27, 2023, 07:50:05 AM
To me, having different Nigeria languages here doesn't portray division or ethnicity. If this board didn't recognize local Content we in Nigeria or other countries wouldn't have gotten their Local board. So far rules of engagement remain same all we be same.
10  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Limitation curse due to over dependant on: December 27, 2023, 07:40:05 AM
Is not always good for an able man to depend on family member. If you come from an affluent family then leverage on their connections to stand on your own as is always good to know how to kill a fish than to be handed over to you. If your affluent family decided not to help you then help yourself to survive as there is dignity in it, thats where respect comes from.
11  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Help someone in the year 2024 on: December 27, 2023, 07:35:21 AM
Inasmuch is good to help people or lift people up with business opportunities and ideas it needs to be done right. You need to do such to people with like minds as soon will pull you down.
Study individual and tailor your help to them
12  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: House rents frustrating while solutions are ignored on: December 27, 2023, 07:32:55 AM
Solution you proffer isn't going to cut it as government did not have any power on Landlords and that's why they have kept quiet and shying away from addressing these rent issues.
Everything we do in this country we do it on our own as government has left their responsibilities to some few greedy folks that are making money off it.
If you build in Lagos, which is the most frustrating place to build, permits alone is killing not to talk of stress involved.

Nothing is properly regulated in this country from the sand and gravel, look at the price of cement that most of its ingredients are locally sourced in the country to house fittings. To do roofing alone not matter how small runs into hundreds of thousands and mind you the water for the house will equally be provided by Landlord so how will government intervene?
Is just about buying and selling and to be honest Landlords are always at the receiving end.

To build good, modern 1room apartment now, stand alone apartment for illustration purpose, you will need nothing less than 800k(conservatively) and this same landlord will rent it out says 130k/annum which means it will take him more than 6years to recover his sweat which is not good business but not bothered as he knows that housing is a long term investment.

14  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: When last did you drank to stupol on: December 27, 2023, 07:03:21 AM
Drinking is good but getting drunk is extremely irresponsible as it's consequences are not always good physically & health wise. Man should be able to caution self even in the face abundance of alcohol as there is no medal to who can drink the most.
15  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Glo and it's network wahala on: December 23, 2023, 12:14:18 PM
It's happening everywhere my brother. In my area I can't stream ordinary videos on YouTube. Was told by insider that the problem stems from mismanaged human & Financial resources by the owner of the business. They said they run the business like the way politicians are running Nigeria to the extent that diesel will not be available at BTS or some functioning parts are not available and owner refuses to approval money for replacements. Was told before you even get approval to him might take months and at the end he will not still approval as everything in the company must pass through him what department head are to be doing.
16  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: CBN lifts ban on cryptocurrency transactions on: December 23, 2023, 12:07:07 PM
Is a welcoming idea and we are waiting for the government framework on it's regulations.
17  Economy / Economics / Re: Learn to use DEBT in a proper way to create asset on: December 23, 2023, 12:04:34 PM
We need to under what debt stands for before we start discussing it's usability. Debt is a loan you take to help you attend to a need and when is not properly used then it becomes a problem.
For you enter into debt then you must have a means to repay back as agreed and I won't advice anyone to enter into debt all in the name of stating new business as most times it does work as new businesses often have start up challenges the debtor might not have factored into their calculations but if you want to get it to boost existing business that is paying already then is fine
What defines good or bad debt is in usability & ability to repay back and this boils down to individuals. Debt you don't have means of repaying back should not be taken.
18  Economy / Economics / Re: Why the us dollar might crash significantly on: December 23, 2023, 11:49:31 AM
US currency is one of the most stable currency around and will be difficult to crash like anticipated since bulk of international trades depends on it.
Removing 300b from Russian will not have any negative  impact on it as is just not that significant enough to crash it. This has been ongoing for 2 years now that they have been clapping down on Russian assets and yet US dollar keep appreciating.
19  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Implications of War on Individuals on: December 23, 2023, 11:43:12 AM
Conflict most times doesn't translate into war as conflicts most times are disagreements that can be settled and when not properly settled it degenerates into war.

War on its own is total breakdown of everything including law, order & Economy. When it happens, people think only about their safety first before anything and aftermath is always devastating. Even after war people still think about survival not economy or investment.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA LIFT THE BAN ON CRYPTOCURRENCY IN NIGERIA on: December 23, 2023, 10:43:05 AM
I knew is all about delaying the inevitable. Instead for past government to study pros and cons of cryptocurrency and devices their own frameworks concerning they went ahead to ban it but we are glad we are back on track
