1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON 2nd gen cryptonote, anon, mobile-friendly, scalable, pruning on: September 05, 2015, 07:22:49 PM
... Can a pool have got a bigger hash rate than the network?

Not sure I was able to come up with a half-decent description on this... Well, I tried  Cheesy

You explained it so plainly that even I do understand :-) Thank you very much.

http://aeonpool.mooo.com/ now:

Network
 Hash Rate: 125.87 KH/sec

Our Pool
 Hash Rate: 152.17 KH/sec

Can a pool have got a bigger hash rate than the network?

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON -- HARD FORK 2015-08-04 - MANDATORY UPDATE TO 0.9.0.0+ REQUIRED on: August 24, 2015, 06:49:03 AM
Thanks for the input Radouch. I'm not going to run a binary from a recent member as I don't have an isolated environment for testing right now, but perhaps that helps others.

I really appreciate your reaction, Myagui. No reaction makes me really uncertain if my reports are of any use.

Concerning binaries: better safe than sorry, no problem. I only want to stress that my account is one year old (and only 6 months younger than yours). I just prefer reading over writing, especially if I do not have anything meaningful to say.

Have a nice day :-)

Super quiet here...  Grin
holidays... Roll Eyes

I used latest cmake (3.3), boost 1.57 and VStudio 2013 as described on the OP, and I'm on Win 8.0 x64.

I used boost 1.59 and VStudio 2015 and my compiled binaries run on Win 7 x64 without problems.
Only I had to rename some folder, but unfortunatelly do not remember which one...

I think I located the problem with the Windows build. If someone wants to create a new binary from github HEAD, we can see if it fixed it.

Tonight I somehow managed to compile from GitHub for Windows (not much easy for me, who never ever compiled anything on Windows... :-) ). With 0.9.1.1 binaries I have got hash rate about 80 H/s, with 0.9.2.0 binaries I've got up to 160 H/s.

So, good work, Smooth! :-)

If you believe me, you can download my binaries from cryptoradouch . tk /aeon/aeon0.9.2.win64.zip
(sorry, but bitcointalk believes this is a suspicious link - this is my VPS...)

EDIT:
Now binaries of aeon 0.9.2.0 for Win 64 compiled by me are available on Google Drive, maybe Bitcointalk will like it more:

New test release

Please test, especially if you have a smaller memory configuration. Very small memory configurations won't work with this, but if you have something that has been barely able to run the deemon previously, this should improve your performance quite a bit.

Report any issues (or even if no issues)

Thanks for testing!

I have tested it today on my desktop Kubuntu 14.04 with 4 GB RAM.

"Official" binary https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/releases/download/v0.9.1.1/aeon-0-9-1-1-linux64-tar.gz does not run at all (reports some error).

Version compiled from https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/archive/v0.9.1.1.tar.gz runs with the memory usage as follows (according to htop):
VIRT: 6158 MB  RES: 2286 MB

Version compiled from git clone https://github.com/iamsmooth/aeon bcmreduce runs with the memory usage as follows:
VIRT: 5640 MB RES: 3055 MB

Conversion of the blockain took quite a long time, but no problem occured.

Good luck!

I could easily start running a node on my VPS, but it has got only 1 GB RAM. It would cause crash I suppose.

Memory problem is really urgent, I guess...

Good luck and good night! :-)

Miners:  We need 2 or 3 of you to move over to Aruh's pool to spread things out a bit.

Yes, and if you are CPU mining, or just running a node/wallet, consider solo mining. It's still not too hard to get blocks.

More features will roll out to encourage and facilitate wallet mining but for now please keep the network strong!

Well, I do not claim to be an expert. But I can see all crypto currencies have got enough own problems. It would be really nice if everyone could take care about his coin for some time. I believe any literate person is able to draw his/her own conclusions from this debate. Enough is enough. Thanks.

Now Delisted from C-Cex!
It looks like this project is well and truly over now.

I guess people aren't ready for freedom just yet.

I am afraid people's readiness for freedom is not the main problem of this coin...

AOEN is fair coin.
(taken from the OP)

I don't see this to be fair to everyone. Loads of crypto users are less tech oriented, own a windows OS and can't compile wallets. This doesn't seem to be fair to every miner.

Well, the term "fair" is hard to define, I think - not only in cryptocurrency. Which coin is absolutely fair? Almost all need a lot of money: graphics cards, memory or really big HDDs (see BURST) are not available for free.

A coin which needs a bit of IT knowledge to be mined is quite fair, I think.

The other thing is that the final goal must be usability for normal people. But: usability <> mineability.

No it doesn't, Bitcoin needs almost none, while this needs people to compile it.

Also the usability is missing here since it doesn't have a gui wallet which 99% of the projects have.

Wonder what a monero dev is capable of if he can't help the above mentioned 2 things.

You did not get my point, I am afraid. Bitcoin cannot be mined without a very expensive device now. Is it "fair"? Certainly not.

Concerning usability: even command line wallet of AEON is hard to use, because it loads the whole blockchain to the memory, as mentioned above. But: I hope it is the beginning, not the end.

No popular coin can be mined without expensive devices, are you implying that this coin is fair because it's unpopular thus the difficulty of mining is low?

So that's a feature?

But: I hope it is the beginning, not the end.

Sadly it's the end since your developer keep trolling other projects instead of developing, do a review on his post history and how frequently he visits competitors vs his own project.

Example Day of forum attacks by Smooth (today, 12th Aug 2015)

Attacking his competitors:

Dash thread: 28 posts (competing with the anon feature)
Vanilla threads: 20 posts (competing for Poloniex volume)
Bytecoin thread: 4 posts (competing "Anon coin")

Posting on his own threads:

AEON: 3 posts
Monero: 0 posts

Smooth's competitors attacking his coins on any threads:

Dash devs: 0 posts
Vanilla devs: 0 posts
Bytecoin devs: 0 posts

And here is from when Smooth was spamming the Dash thread today and my reply with the current info I see problems with with what Smooth is doing that has a big conflict of interest (apart from trolling his competitors which obviously looks like he is trying to remove investors to own schemes)

Well, do not feed the trolls. We shall see how things will develop. Have a nice day.

Is it possible to download the blockchain as a file up to some date? It seems it will be downloading for days... :-)

Yes it is in the first post of this thread (search for the word bootstrap). They are community-provided so I can't personally vouch for them being correct, but no problems have been reported.

Thanks, it worked smoothly and now I can see my recently mined coins... :-)

Only sad that half of my 8 GB memory is occupied...

Looks like very promising coin. I am now trying to download blockchain on my notebook (Win 7 64) and preparing to start it on my VPS with Ubuntu 14.04.

It seems http://ultracointalk.org/ is down for a long time, isn't it? And pools are still off?
Is anybody trying to solve it?

Trading miners working now.

It is not possible to trade miners or report bugs now (for few days). Any information send by web form is not stored. So I hope operator of the web will read this.
