"String" or "Module" refers to the way the Chips are powered. Might be better to think of it as Series or Parallel.

Thanks for the explanation Rich.  Series & parallel quickly relate to my electronics experience.  "String design" sounds all mysterious and high-brow.  Wish people that like that phrasing would instead say "string power design", so some like me don't think it's referring to the logic of the processing that is the string design.
2  Other / Meta / Re: Trust List Analysis - Ethics on: October 03, 2015, 10:35:17 AM
I votes yes, I just hope this will not lead to more drama.

Of course it will lead to more drama.  For those that are outed for using alts, they'll scream and cry.  Similarly, those that are identified as alts and really aren't, will scream and cry.

There definitely will be some drama - some from those that are busted, and some from those that are innocent - but they'll both be singing the same tune.  So how will anyone know what the truth is.  The OP clearly states, it may identify alts.

I have a few questions about this:

How can anyone absolutely prove the accuracy of this kind of analysis?  Without knowing that, I can see that innocent accounts could fall victim to being wrongly identified.

Even though the raw data is publicly available, is it reasonable to examine personal trust habits of all BCT users?  And then to share publicly that analysis?

To make a comparison, just because a person goes out in public, to work, to the store, to the post office, to dinner, (all in the public view mind you), it is not deemed legal (nor appropriate in my opinion) to follow them about and inspect their personal life.  So much so even, that there are laws against that, at least in my country, the USA.

I wholeheartedly believe, that I would be charged with stalking, if just wanted to do my own in-depth analysis of my insurance agent, and followed him about to see who else he interacts with and who he trusts, by following him to different appointments with clients, when he goes to lunch and follow him to where he lives.  I don't think the US Courts would find anything impressive in a defense of, "I was just performing my own trust analysis of my insurance agent.  I didn't invade his privacy.  I only followed him around in public."

Here’s another quick comparison.  Just because I can walk up and down my residential street and see lots of windows open and without any curtains drawn, does not make it okay for me to walk up to each window and take a picture of the inside of the houses on my street (publicly viewed information).  What if I then take those photos, make a compiled list (analysis) of the details of say, everyone's televisions (or whatever), then buy billboard space and list all of that information for public view.  Is that okay?

Here's my last question to everyone: are you okay with this analysis being used for personal purposes other than identifying alts?

There's another current thread about, is doxxing okay.  There seems to be a debate about that.  But after all, it's just public information right?  So it's no big deal to share it, right? :-)  (let's not have a doxxing discussion here).

I truly and genuinely compliment Dogie for publicly asking this question, since I'm at least one person that brought this question to mind.  So I am curious to know people's response as well.

From my personal experience, earlier this week, because of this analysis, Dogie politely PM'd me and asked why I had removed him from my personal trust.  As we exchanged some PM's I was amazed to find out that my personal trust list was publicly available.  I hadn't complained about it, because I didn't know.  Next I was amazed to know that someone had been looking at the trust of little ol' me.  A rather quiet person on this forum.  And finally I was amazed that I was being essentially asked, why don't you trust me.  It was a private decision that I made.  Now I was being asked about my private decision?

So yes, I did feel that it was an intrusion of my privacy.

Would you consider that an intrusion of privacy?

If they thought it was a "personal intrusion" then why haven't they complained about the publicity of trust lists?

As I mentioned above, I didn't know that my personal trust list was publicly available.  To whom & how would you suggest I complain to?  I would like to.

I don't think that my personal trust list should be publicly available.  Who I trust or don't trust, should be my choice to share.  I think the way it should be, is if you want to know trust opinions of a user, send the a PM and ask.  Isn't that how it is in real life?  For me to know who you trust or don't trust, I'd have actually ask you.  I really would need to ask specifically, do you trust DavidT or JohnnyL? (etc)  That's exactly what I have to do in real life, is ask.  I don't have some way to quietly peer into someone's data and find out.

IMO, on the positive side of this, I would love to see this analysis (if it can be proven out) be an additional tool of proving alts, available to admins or staff only.  Not publicly.  If they can use the information, to further a review into specific, possible, alt accounts, let them do that, with discretion, using other input as well.  Dogie mentioned in the OP, that this may help identify alts and that it should be but one piece of evidence (great wording btw Dogie, and thank you for qualifying the possible limitations of the analysis).  It's not an absolute.

As I read that, I read that there is possibly some margin of error or something similar.  With that in mind, I don't think the results should be shared publicly, because it is way too easy (and likely here on BCT) for it to turn into a witch hunt, where innocent people will be trampled along with alt abusers.

Dogie, thanks for posting the question.  It was your analysis, so it was your question to ask publicly.

My request would be, if this was to be posted publicly, that it only be done, with the blessing of Theymos (in a public post).  (it's really his forum, let him decide if something like this should be publicly shared and let him publicly let us know he has approved that).

When will these be available for non bulk ordering?

And how are sellers such as zoomhash getting 5?  Some are selling.  We just need to find out way for us non-resellers.

I've enjoyed keeping up on this thread, but that is the question I have been patiently waiting for the answer to.  I hope we home miners get to hear something soon.  This is still a great looking product so far.
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: July 25, 2015, 07:56:35 PM
in my opinion s5 it was not a good product, too many problems, so far the best product I've seen were s3 +, those miners were the armed wagon, hopefully in s6 / s7 something powerful and low noise Embarrassed

In my opinion, it has some issues.  Loud fans, and a firmware issue.  However, I also think it's been a good product.

Swapping fans was an easy fix.  The firmware needed repair, but that is a firmware issue and the hardware has worked well.  Overall, I've been pleased with the S5 as a miner.  (that doesn't negate some of the other issues we've seen this year surrounding the S5).
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: July 23, 2015, 05:29:29 PM
Errors happens.

They do happen.  But I have to admit, when it's in big letters, that one should be correct.

To me it looks more like remote access to miners produced by them. You can register dual miner on that website and then you can remotly check and maintain miners in your location.

That is the way I'm reading it.  Management of (your) miners, through the Cloud (or Could).  The Help section reads that way too.  That would be nice.  I was never able to get that concept to work with my S5's.
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? EDIT: BITMAIN WHERE ARE YOU?!?! on: July 22, 2015, 03:54:05 PM
Why limit my own design to the framework of someone else's? I'd rather make something a bit more universal.

Once again, a very smart approach Sidehack.  Thank you for being willing to at least think about making an S2 upgrade option in the future.  Thank you for your support of the community, by actually coming up new miners.  Congratulations GekkoScience!
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: July 16, 2015, 07:12:14 AM
I had both fans wired directly to the PSU "both S5 original fans" then I remove the internet connection and I was still able to view my miner status page. The temp shot up well above 80c <snip>

the bold part there says you are lying...

anyway, your posts are becoming very annoying..

Annoying or not.. I had the same experience he described.

I lost my internet connection when I was out one day.  Came home, heard the miners beeping.  I physically looked at the miners and the heat coming off of them was tremendous.  I logged in and I was able to see a temp of 102 or 106 (I can't recall right now).  I freaked out, killed the power and stuck a box fan on them to cool off.  So I didn't get a screenshot that time.

I don't know what the software should or should not allow (allowing access or not).  I do know I got this screenshot when a pool failed (and the software did not appropriately rollover).  The software also didn't shutdown.  I know the fan was barely spinning (no matter what the screenshot showed).  So I know there are multiple inconsistencies with what the software should do but doesn't.  The screenshot temp was in harmony with my IF thermometer reading.

Don't message me about price, delay or anything, but here is something that may be available sometime in august:

Nice!  Great to see someone working on a product.  Thank you.
9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: May 20, 2015, 07:18:12 AM
I've been offline for a few weeks (by my choice) and am thrilled to see the progress.

Thank you Sidehack & Novak for continuing to work through the development of such a great concept!
10  Economy / Goods / Re: More HOT SAUCE! automatically get 20% off if paid with BTC on: May 01, 2015, 03:02:31 AM
I love the honey too.  Just made a 3rd order on Monday and received it today! (cross-country).

Thank you!

It's really amazing how different honey can taste, simply based on where the beehive is.
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: April 28, 2015, 07:47:58 PM
My next rig has to be Spondoolies.

Used? Or are you seriously looking to be a B2B customer and their newer offerings?

I was thinking used product as well as new.

However, after looking at the SP-T announcement today, that sure adds a big wrinkle to BTC things.
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: April 27, 2015, 07:19:55 AM
Our team has contacted you multiple times and requested to have a session to verify the status of the machines and attempt to debug the situation. These sessions have a very high success rate yet you have repeatedly refused to help us assist you. Even then, you have been offered to RMA the machines but have chosen to ignored our communication attempts.

We certainly honor the warranty and would like to help, but we cannot do that without your cooperation.

I again ask that you reply to the latest communication and proceed with the RMA process.

For clarification, only communication with support@spondoolies-tech.com is documented and officially responded to. We do our best to answer questions asked on the forum but can only guarantee response to contacts to our official support email.

If the issue is not resolved to your satisfaction after you respond to our communication, I will gladly take ownership of your ticket to see that the issue is resolved.
We appreciate your support and cooperation,

Gadi

I just have compliment Spondoolies on their support here.  I am glad to see such great customer service!  My next rig has to be Spondoolies.

Even a couple others mentioned the same thing and had screen shots showing over 80 degrees, which shouldn't even happen if the shutdown is 80.

I'm one of the others that this happened to.  Two of my miners lost internet and the temps rose to over 100C.  The same symptom: very slow fan and lots of heat.

I completely agree it should be a software fix.  It is too bad that it hasn't been a priority.  I'm glad some others have not had this problem (as mentioned when I posted about my problem).  But at least some of are having this problem.  I was able to consistently duplicate it.

Sorry this happened to someone else.  Thank you for bringing it up, so hopefully  Smiley Bitmain Smiley will fix it.
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: April 23, 2015, 08:49:44 PM
@sidehack

Thank you for sharing your skills and effort on this project.  I think it is a great idea, to have something simple and low cost that people can learn with.

Although have an S2, S5's and had some S3+ miners, I've never dared to tinker with them.  I don't want to mess up a miner that I had to pay that much for (nor void a warranty).  This will be something perfect that I can try different things with.

Great work.  Keep it up!
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 17, 2015, 06:13:19 PM
Thank you Sfards for doing something new and for communicating with the community.  Thank you for being willing share the development process with us.

I'm looking forward to seeing a completed miner from you.
16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain tech support and warranty on: April 10, 2015, 06:22:52 PM
Will Bitmain sell extra control boards or hashing board for backup purpose? Always good to have spare part around. Especially hashing board and controller.

That's a great idea.  Would you reply here, after you've checked.  I'd like to know if they'll do that, and how much.
17  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: M's Miner (Ant/SP) Monitor v5.2: alerts,auto/mass/scheduled reboot/mobile miner on: April 05, 2015, 06:20:03 AM
I had two Bitmain S4s being hosted offsite.  Recently, the PSU blew shortly after the 90 day warranty expired.  Apparently that's not uncommon with S4s.  Like others, Bitmain basically said "too bad, so sad" and refused to replace the junk PSU.  They then admitted their supplier only gives a 90 day warranty on their PSU.  In other words, the PSU is junk.

Ouch!  That sucks.  Sorry you got bit.
18  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: April 03, 2015, 04:24:13 AM
Please wait for the official announcement

Could you please tell us when you plan to make an announcement about new miners and when you plan to announce upgrade kits?
19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? EDIT: New info 3/11 on: April 01, 2015, 12:49:44 AM
I don't understand why everybody is so eager for these S6 upgrades. They probably will cost as much as a new S6  and buying 2/3x S5 seperately will be cheaper probably like it was with the earlier upgrade.

I'm not looking for an S6 upgrade... since there's not even a released S6 to be able to upgrade.

A lot of us are eager for an upgrade path for the S2, since it's been a great workhorse.  Probably... could be... I bet they.... is all speculation.  Which is all we have at the moment.  It might be costly, it might be cost-effective.  So we're anxious to see exactly what Bitmain will have to offer.

Having said that, Pekatete has some great logic on the concept (and others).

Testing was started 2 weeks ago.

Dang.  I thought I'd been following this closely.  Where did they say they were testing?  Thanks.
