K. You didn't actually read my post prior to last. You may reply when you actually do.

I think you don't really understand the idea of Bitcoin.

Oh. Guess BTC is supposed to be government-regulated then.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin article (gizmodo) one more media source stating the death of bitcoin on: August 08, 2011, 06:55:10 PM
Bitcoin is still 7x stronger than 1 US dollar soooo.. if Bitcoin is dead the US is in worse condition than every one thought.

I don't think that the article was trying to make the argument that Bitcoin is invalid once it goes lower than the dollar or tied to a specific exchange rate. Rather, I think they were saying that the wild up-down-up-way down of the exchange rate demonstrates that BTC is controlled purely by speculation and has no value outside of that.  I'm not really sure that, at this point, I disagree with that assumption.

I do disagree with the article that BTC is dead and that it will never have any value because you "can't hold it".  Obviously WoW and other MMOs have proven that digital objects have real value.  For a tech website, who ever wrote that article is really tech ignorant.

there is one positive aspect regarding the sudden price drop...  people might actually spend them buying services rather than hording them.

people held on to them like no tomorrow because they though the price would go up...  now it's proven that isn't the case...  so they might be more inclined to spend them....  if merchants want to accept that risk now.

My thoughts exactly.  The hoarders are what will kill BTC.  Hopefully the rate will stay at $7 for a few weeks will work to assuage any merchant's fears.

Stop hoarding. Support merchants.

No i really did not know who you are but, With all this talk about wallet theft. Sorry no disrespect. Only wanting people to be careful so we may get passed all this wallet theft.
The only thing that is worse than trusting someone without due diligence, is calling someone a scammer without due diligence.

Oh and as far as I know they're the only ones working on getting government recognition as a commodity, so their exchanges can be covered by insurers etc. I suspect and hope that a service like this would also come under such coverage in the future particularly if it's linked to exchanges.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The beautiful thing about Bitcoin is that you have a choice. If you don't like government involvement, then use another service.

Now, for fucks sake, go troll elsewhere.

Ok, so you join a community who values it's commodity for having no government regulation and claims it as one of its virtues and then you work real real hard to do the exact opposite.  Do you think once the government gets involved in regulating just a few exchanges they'll be just pleased with themselves and leave BTC as a whole alone?

Keep up the good work on undoing the whole point of BTC!

Also: pointing out logical inconsistencies is now trolling!

Bitcoin communtiy: Trust NO ONE to hold onto your BTC....unless they say you can really really trust them.

We should be focusing more on getting people to secure their BTC personally than going down the same road over and over.  Even if the operators of an online wallet are 100% honest good-guys haven't we seen that setting yourself up as a singluar target is asking to be hacked and possibly losing everyone's BTC.

Countdown to lulz-a-caust begins now.

FAQ, Help, and Contact links at the bottom of the page did not work - using Chrome in Windows 7.

I am not quite sure how you even managed to see them. Black on brown?
They do not work in opera either.

When people launch BTC sites.. do they even ask for a single opinion before hitting up this forum?
When you splash it here one would hope the most trivial of issues and design considerations would
be worked out.

Scammers don't have time to ask for opinions.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: *** Pledge to spend 10 Bitcoins *** on: August 08, 2011, 03:10:34 PM
So, went ahead and signed the pledge because I'll do my best to spend 10btc whenever I have 10btc. Though, the part the confuses me is the "only if 1000 people do the same." Eff that. I'm going to do it anyways.  I'm not going to help the community only if everyone else is.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: *** Pledge to spend 10 Bitcoins *** on: August 08, 2011, 02:54:21 PM
The language barrier makes that difficult, but I'll see if I can find a way to spend BTCs here and will sign the pledge if I do.

You can always just give me the BTC and I can spend it.  It'll fulfill the pledge all the same Cheesy
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: *** Pledge to spend 10 Bitcoins *** on: August 08, 2011, 02:18:55 PM
If I had 10 BTC a month I'd spend it.  I have no plans to "sit" on any BTC I get as my hardware has now been paid off.

I can't make this pledge as I don't think I can actually mine 10 BTC a month, but I'll do my best.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [FORBES] The Bitcoin Crash - New Article, Forbes Claim is Doom on: August 08, 2011, 02:14:49 PM
The only thing that will kill BTC are the hoarders who sit on more than 500 BTC hoping to just cash out.  Spend your BTC on businesses that will, in turn, encourage more to accept BTC.  If you won't spend it, give it to me and I will.

In before everyone loses BTC to another online wallet.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EvE online should be a prerequisite to having BTC on: August 07, 2011, 09:57:38 PM
Thanks for not making any sense.

If the "eve douchery" was so successful in teaching everyone not to trust, then how can it still be happening?

Thanks for not taking more than half a second to think about it.  We can all wait for you to mentally catch-up with the rest of the class.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EvE online should be a prerequisite to having BTC on: August 07, 2011, 08:10:57 PM
...or just use common sense. never played eve online, and never got scammed.

btw. like you sig

Yes, common sense is what is needed. But I'm saying that EvE can help people who have never had experience with virtual commodities and haven't developed that "common sense" can use EvE as a chance to get scammed but without the huge consequences.

Sometimes you need practice to develop a true understanding of how things work as not everyone is magically gifted with the same "common sense" abilities.

I did the trial for EvE, and really liked it, but can't justify spending a monthly fee to play a video game.

I didn't know about their in-game money system, though. That's interesting. They should use bitcoin!

Well, EvE does have someways where you can use the ingame currency to buy game time and, thus, play for free.

The thing about EvE, or any popular MMO for that matter, using BTC as the in-game currency are multiple. First, they'd be dealing with a real currency and be subjected to all kinds of new regulations and infrastructure to deal with it.  Second, it would defeat the purpose of my post which is that people can get scammed for "practice" without losing big Smiley
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Want to save Bitcoin? Here's how YOU can help. on: August 07, 2011, 08:08:33 PM
There are many unique aspects to Bitcoin. For a few months, it was exposed to a quickly. growing audience and, consequently, grew in value, which in turn made it attractive to investors, who inflated the value even more. It now appears that many speculators are getting out. Those of us still willng to use bitcoins as currency are trading it for goods and services, and I, for one, only trade it for USD when necessary. As more and more merchants join the movement, I expect this necessity to diminish.

BitBrew is doing its part to stabilze the BTC economy by keeping prices static, come hell or high water.

If you trade

Says the guy selling a $20USD cup of coffee. Through the internet. Like it or not, you have to deal with the fact that BTC can be traded for other currencies.

Sorry, but I don't understand any part of your reply.

I think he's trying to say that you said that BTC shouldn't be allowed to be converted into other currencies and he pointed out your coffee pricing for...some reason.  Anyways, you obviously weren't saying that and he was just using a straw man against you.

Anyways, I agree with you edd. All these people who worry about BTC's USD value and complain when they can buy a product cheaper with USD than with BTC are doing nothing to help to economy.  People who SELL products with BTC and not just hoard them so they can cash out some day are the real BTC heroes.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / EvE online should be a prerequisite to having BTC on: August 07, 2011, 08:03:42 PM
Anyone who has ever played EvE Online knows the mantra "trust nobody".  Scamming with the ingame currency is not only allowed, but almost encouraged.  There have been "player operated" banks in EvE that have gained trust over years and then with no warning walked away with TONS of ingame money because they can.

I see people making the same mistakes with their BTC that they could have learned to avoid by just spending a few months play EvE.  I really would recommend it.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much faith do you have in Bitcoin now? on: August 07, 2011, 08:01:15 PM
Same as before. People who don't know how BTC works get scammed, people who do are able to do business successfully.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Tom Williams" likely sold the entire myBTC.com bank @ ~13 and bought back at $8 on: August 07, 2011, 08:00:38 PM
If that's what he did then he is acting just like a real bank.  Good for him.  He wouldn't even have to do it with ALL the bitcoins, just a decent portion of them.

Not saying that I necessarily think that is what he did do, but the hypothesis is a smart one.
