Hmm, Im not sure Im convinced of that yet. The GPU is in the center of the PCB board. I would assume the fan being directly over the GPU would be better than a fan at the end of the card.
Also, if the reference cards have better coolers why would they swap them with less efficient coolers? That doesnt make any sense. Any revisions should be a step forward not backwards.
You mean the volts arent locked yes? The reference coolers are garbage tho. You cant really give it more volts cause the coolers cant handle it. Personally I would rather have an improved cooler than unlock volts.
Ive been screwing around with my 6970's the last few days. Figured I would share my experience with them. For some reason afterburner and trixx cant control the clocks. I use MSI to under volt from 1175 to 1100 and ATI tray tools to adjust clocks 900 / 270. My temps and noise from fans dropped drastically. From 90c and 50% to 82c and 37%. My biggest gripe was with the noise but with fans that low I can barely even hear them.
I purchased this from newegg 10 months ago. No problems. I still have the original box and contents. All XFX products come with the amazing double life time warranty. Looking for 30 coins. Free ship USA.
Im running two 6970's and a 1000w power supply. Im thinking about getting another but Im not sure if my PSU will be able to handle it. Does anybody know a program that will show my systems power consumption?
