We are suffering from global cooling.  So please, continue to mine and generate heat.   Tongue
42  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: US Mining Hardware Deduction/Depreciation on: April 26, 2014, 04:14:00 PM
Guys in the US.

Just go and incorporate yourself as a company.  LLC, small corp, sole proprietor, doesn't matter.  Spend the  roughly $120 with the state and become a company.  You can afford it since you can afford the miners.  It gives you all sorts of tax breaks.

Miners can be computer or manufacturing equipment.  Classify it as computer, great, then you can use Section 179 accelerated depreciation schedule.  Section 179 lets you deduct a great percentage of  the miner market value.   This depreciation offsets your BTC income.  If you don't have enough BTC income in fiat terms, then it offsets your regular work income.

With a corporate like structure, you can deduct or subtract the electricity cost, internet access cost, network and router switch cost, home cooling cost, trips to BTC convention, gas cost to meetup with your mining buddies, etc.  Basically all these cost deductions will more than offset what you made in fiat when your BTC is mined.

Only thing to watch out for is the 3 year guideline.  If you don't show a positive book profit after 3 years, then IRS can classify your mining operation as a hobby, and reduce your past deductions.  May result in back taxes.  One smart person told me, if that happens, then just close up shop (shut down the company) and stop mining.  It's not profitable anyway.  3 years is a long time in BTC land...

** Not legal advise.  Consult with your CPA or tax lawyer. Keep invoices and receipts when going the corporate route.

Depends on how much space you have left in the panel, and whether you are doing the work yourself.

If you are wiring yourself, then I suggest 240v 20a using 12 AWG copper wiring.  Easier to deal with than 10 AWG.  Provided you have enough breaker spaces in the panel.  Make sure you distribute the breakers between the left bank (side) and right bank (side) of the panel.  Helps with loading.

If hiring electrician, then I would go 240v 30a route with 10 AWG copper wiring.  Time is money.  Less wires to run usually means less install time, and therefore cost less.

In all cases, I would place the heavy electrical loads near the top of the panel where the main feeder cable comes into the panel.

Did you connect the status LEDs from your MBs to your case?  Those LEDs help with troubleshooting. No, didnt see any.

At least connect the computer case speaker and see if it beeps.  Many motherboards beep when the MB passes initial BIOS check.

Sometimes the PSU has a switch to go between 120V or 240V.  Check that. How?

Then don't worry about it.  You have the type that auto switches between 120 and 240V.

Does your MB have built in vga or DIV-D output?  If it does, try removing the video cards first and plug into MB's own monitor ports. Dont have any built in

Remove one of the video cards and CrossFire link.  Treid with only 1 from the start

Is your monitor on?  Set to the right input?  Don't laugh.  I've seen it happen before. ;-) Checked and double checked. Monitor replay "going to sleep"

One other thing to try, reinstall your CPU and RAM sticks.  For the CPU, check and see if the ZIF socket arm is down and *locked*.

Also I just got a miner where the fan refuses to come on. I wasnt paying attention and the miner got to 80c....oops. I took the fan off, look for debris and it is fine. I plugged it into another miner and it spins right up. So it seems to me the miner is not telling it to spin. Any idea what may be causing this?

I had one that did that.  Until the network was setup correctly and cgminer was running.  Then it spinned right up.  Weird.
Another way to make the fan always run, is to strip the connector from the fan, and connect it to the green screw terminal block on top of the blades.  Only disadvantage is you can't plug the fan into a regular connector any more.

Multiple S1s with the same IP address may cause this problem.

What is your router IP address?  Typical router IP address is 192.168.1.1.  If your S1's gateway isn't set to the router's IP address, then it won't see network.

Can your router see the S1?  Router typically has a diagnostic screen that shows what's attached to the router network.

I configure the S1 with a direct connection from computer to S1 using network cable, without going through router or switches.  This will eliminate many potential problems.

How many video cards do you have?

I've tried running two instances of Cgminer with SHA 256 before, doesn't work for me.

Use the recommended setting first at 375 Mhz.
See this document for the configuration.
https://www.bitmaintech.com/userfiles/download/AntMiner%20S1%20FAQ.pdf

I think your high HW error has to do with the time out in ms.  Basically play around with trying out 35-38, e.g. 35, 36, 37, etc.

Clean out the heatsinks with a vacuum cleaner or canned air.  Most of the S1s I've read about are not new.
What is your ambient temperature?  How is the air flow in the room?

Borrow a new router.  My old Belkin router gave me all sorts of random trouble.  Bought a new one, problem solved.  A dual band wireless TP link router is about $55 on Amazon.

On my units, I get average 195 GH/s at 375 MHz.  Depending on the machine, you may be pushing it too hard and already past the point of diminishing returns with higher freq.

Good luck.
50  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [In Stock] Batch 8! Gridseed miners in Stock in Los Angeles. [$225] on: April 23, 2014, 05:31:32 AM
Dude most mining companies pre-mine with their shit.  Bitmain, Gridseed both do it.  That's why many come shipped dusty.  It's not Zooms fault.  That's why it's kinda tricky selling stuff as "new" there are very few miners that are actually "new".  Most are used first by the manufacturer.

Add KnC...KnC Miner... Wink

One other company that shipped new hardware was ASICminer.  Got brand new BlockErupter cubes, USB sticks from the resellers.  I kind of hope ASICminer still makes complete mining machines. One can hope.

Talked to Bob@ Zoomhash on the phone.  Helpful person.

I ordered a blade to play with.

Lets see what happens.  :-)

12/28/13 Cubes have not arrived for all preorders placed. I am issuing refunds to all that preordered and request one via pm. Please state your tx id, amount paid, cubes ordered, and a refund address(preferably the one you sent payment from). Refunds will be processed in 96 hours or less from time received. I have not received tracking numbers/shipping information from AsicMiner as to when the cubes are to be delivered. This is why I hate preorders. Last preorder shipped on time. This one was a complete disaster. If you wish to remain on preorder list, do nothing and I will ship as soon as I get them. A refund is always an option until I ship your preorder.
As to current cubes already shipped, I have not received any warranty units to date. I have shipped numerous individual mini blades, bottom main boards, and entire cubes at my expense. I have no more inventory in hand to ship replacement parts. Hopefully next week, I shall receive my prepaid cube orders to be able to swap out parts and or cubes. If you are having problems with your cubes, please pm me and I will try to work something out. Any new orders of cubes(once they are in stock) will be 0.79 btc each due to cost of swapping parts and time involved in dealing with problems.ANY FUTURE ORDERS OF CUBES I CAN ONLY GUARANTEE THEY WORK IN NON OVERCLOCKED MODE AS THEY ARE VERY TRICKY TO SETUP IN OVERCLOCK MODE IN MY OPINION.

First off I got my 3 hubs today thank you.  You have been a very good seller to me no complaints and the 4 cubes I purchased all work I sold all 4 and mad a few bucks. Posted a trust for the hubs.

My thoughts all 4 cubes failed to work on 3 different  hi end seasonic psu's  . I happen to know that many corsair psu's are clones built by seasonic and that they are exactly the same.  So I would tell very one to not use Seasonic Platinum psu. or sea sonic gold and the corsair that are rebranded versions .  btw this is about 12 models of psu.   I had a cheaper model work fine from fsp it was an 800 watt model.  It allowed all 4 cubes to work.  I also had a problem with fans I put in a noctua hind 25 dollar fan and all 4 units buzzed when powered done.  I switch to 10 dollar silverstones and the power issues stopped.  so  these units are tricky.  If you have a good one please give us the make and model of your PSU.

the fan below moves enough air for low clocking and is quieter

this psu was good

Corsair CX750M works for 2 cubes.  One in overclocked mode.  One in low regular mode.  I have yet to troubleshoot the one that runs in low clock mode to verify whether it's the blades, motherboards, or the PSU.  It's giving me partial xxx's.
57  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [IN STOCK] ASICMiner Cubes 30-38gh/s - USA - .85 BTC - Verified on high clock on: December 31, 2013, 07:03:05 AM
Testers are cranking through cubes tonight. All orders up to this point will be sent a 38gh/s verified unit tomorrow. Any orders past this point will likely be shipped Wednesday(Thursday due to holiday) as the testers catch up to incoming supply.

If you are fine with receiving and unverified cube, and don't care if it can clock high, please let me know and I will ship tomorrow.

What procedures does the testers use to verify cubes will run at high without a bunch of xxxx?

Thank you.

Question for Cube owners who have had them apart.

Do the heat sinks have thermal paste on them or ?

Thanks,

It has thermal pad underneath the heatsink.

None of my 4 cubes had the cards seated properly.  All have lose heatsink screws.  Two heatsink screws were lose in the chassis.

I disassembled and re-assembled the cubes.

One of the cubes gave out the magic smoke on power up.  There was a pop, sparks, and acidic smell.

Shutdown and checked the boards one by one.  One of the boards has capacitor C110 blew up.  The board has revision 3.1 PCB.

Well, that totally sucks.

All the usb sticks I got were top notch, had QC.  The cubes, not so good.

Where can I get replacement boards?  Or just ship me a couple C110 capacitor, I'll fix it myself.
