1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: July 08, 2014, 06:40:56 PM
I'll message our web developer about that. Hopefully we can get it fixed soon.

Thanks   Smiley

the Official Einsteinium Block Explorer url, but it seems that it's not even working anymore, it's stuck to June 22...
I can bump too.

The only thing that einsteinium coin needs to do is add some nice holographic security seals to garantee that nobody has ever seen the private key and there you have the perfect promotion tool.
You can use some "plain silver" hologram stickers from Canton website, or any bitcoin ones. It's the same template so size is compatible.

Maybe it is possible to pay the winners with a GIANT paper wallet. Maybe we can spead some paperwallets in the scientific world, with a how-to on the backside

You are welcome to use mine   Wink

This provide support for Einsteinium addresses and include an einsteinium theme based on others Canton alt-currencies theme. A compressed archive can be downloaded from my github repository, direct link.

Finished wallet:

I actually updated it this week, a "Litecoin" reference was still present on one image. Sorry about that if you already used it. Also I wanted to update it with the Official Einsteinium Block Explorer url, but it seems that it's not even working anymore, it's stuck to June 22... Is there still anyone taking care of all of these things, or is it dead and I should stop wondering about this coin?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Einsteinium Algorithm Vote, FINAL DECISION FOR CHANGE - PoW or PoS? on: July 03, 2014, 11:25:28 PM
Can't vote, but count me in for PoS.

As the open nomination period is over [...]
Since only one nomination was made per seat and officer position, we don't need elections.
Well with a nomination period of ~2 days, during a week end, don't be surprised of not getting enough candidates to do a proper election.
Maybe I'm the only one not following this topic every hour, but this don't especially sounds like a democracy to me.
Maybe you should extend the "nomination" period a little?

Is anyone using paper wallets for cold storage? I am thinking about holding the majority of my coin on paper for safe keeping. Any thoughts?
As I plan to keep the few coins I mined, I use one.
I made it available on this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494708.msg5704701#msg5704701 and you are more than welcome to use it.

BTW can a link to it can eventually be posted on the OP?

Still voting for scrypt. The big money is in scrypt and that is where the future lies IMO. Not with a bunch of small time miners crying fair.
I remember reading the same kind of comments about scrypt mining compared to sha-256. At this time scrypt was predicted to die, everyone was telling that ASIC scrypt will be impossible. But well that was long ago, like 6 months already... Time flies!

Small time miners are unlikely to break even by buying a few ASIC devices, so if it can protect against any 51% attack, decrease energy consumption (a science and eco friendly project? That's a bingo!) and remain "fair" to many new users it seems to me as a good idea.

OP changed regarding hashrapid.
I'm affraid that saying they have too much hashpower may attract more people. But well, will see.
Also it seems that http://emc2.pitythepool.com and http://emc2.coins4everyone.com are closed/down. Maybe time for a health check on all the links and update everyting here, on the reddit etc?  Smiley
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: March 21, 2014, 06:16:23 PM
Hashrapid still @ 58%.  Huh Huh
Maybe some miners don't understand english or something.
Maybe the link to the pool can be removed from the first post too?

I understand that a lot of work ahead, but if you make a website like http://experiment.com and do the same functionality as on it, it would be super-cool! Wink
Or to add a possibility to fund some project there directly using your EMC2s on their website?   Smiley

Please if anyone has the time I would like to have an "Einsteinium accepted here" image I could use for comicon. I could ask the other devs but I really would like the crypto community to come up with one.

I don't see the point of an "Einsteinium accepted here". Wait, let me explain first, I'm trying to be constructive.

We can't deny it, crypto currencies are currently growing, but whenever we want it or not, I strongly believe that only one so far is almost successful, yes the bitcoin. Proof of that? Well any other alt-crypto are at some point exchanged to BTC, then eventually to fiat. So no, I don't see the point of some stores accepting EMC2 as a direct form of payment, at least not before BTC is as current as paypal today (and I hate paypal so much!). But if a store accept BTC, technically they accept EMC2 right? We made it to Moolah, and I think that is the best thing that could have happened to us as it will be a user friendly way to spend EMC2, or any other selected alt-currency to any bitcoin accepting store. Let's show our support to Moolah, and don't try to cut them, or the exchanges we are so desperately trying to join, out.

Let's face it, BTC is barely accepted in stores and by normal people, by normal I mean the 98% that don't even know what BTC is, not any of you, present on this forum. The multiplication of all these coins, lead to confusion. How any specific new coin can be noticed among all of them? Which one can be trusted? Well hard to say. So let's stick to a simple plan, BTC is (or at least will eventually be) for buying stuff, and if you want you can always convert any crypto to BTC using an exchange, and for some lucky cryptos like ours, directly use them with Moolah.

Now let's be smart will you? Let's find a REAL novel use to the coin. The foundation goal is to fund science right? Why? Because science need money. Scientists are always looking for money to run their experiments. We write grants, we beg for money all the time! We always look for donations. Look on any disease foundation you will always find a link to a "donate" page. What if EMC2 was not another alt-crypto coin with a tiny (2%) science friendly side, but an official money to finance science? What if it was on all this donations pages as THE crypto currency to finance all scientific projects, not only 1 project voted by the community. What if every small lab could accept donations this way?

So yes, I think that instead of 5 stores harboring a "Einsteinium accepted here" sign, with maybe 1 potential customer able to pay anything with EMC2, a simple way for any lab or scientific organisation to have a tiny "Help our science, donate EMC2" image would be better. Nothing fancy, the coin picture and/or the "Einsteinium.org" logo are actually already sufficient for this use. If you can couple that to a simple way for a lab to create an address to collect fund without installing anything (yep I'm kind of thinking of a simple paper wallet  Wink ), you have an awesome science funding opportunity.

Now wait a few minutes, think about it, try to be realistic for a short term goal. Are you still convinced than a "Einsteinium accepted here" sign and campaign is still the best thing to focus on right now?

PS: despite my pseudo, which is waaaayyy older than the einsteinium project, I'm not affiliated with anything, so this is a strictly personal opinion!

I asked here for help because i was really impressed with your paper wallets and community.
Thanks for your comment.

The source of the paper wallet is available on Canton github repository and can be modified by anyone for their own use, or to adapt it to another crypto coin as he already did for litecoin and dogecoin, and I did for einsteinium.
I would advice you to start from here if you want to adapt it to your needs, and find someone in your community willing to work on it.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: March 15, 2014, 03:36:21 AM
Those are sexy looking paper wallets. How long did it take you to put that together?
Thanks. Actually it did not take very long, a couple of hours I would say.
But of course it was fast only thanks to Canton who agreed to share his original layered template with me, I only had to modify it, not to start from scratch.

I would also point out, as indicated in the github commit that the GPG signature file is left untouched so if you read the README and follow the advices on the website (but who does that? Wink) the signature will NOT match against Canton Becker's published gpg fingerprint. This is normal.

You can use the 4 new jpeg images and change the few lines of code from the original and GPG matching html page yourself to be sure nothing else is altered.

Hey guys

In honor of Albert's birthday I would like to introduce you to... EMC2 paper wallets!
If anyone is interested I made a few changes to the source code of https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com from Canton Becker github repository

This provide support for Einsteinium addresses and include an einsteinium theme based on others Canton alt-currencies theme. A compressed archive can be downloaded from my github repository, direct link.

Finished wallet:

High resolution of the front:

Add some "plain silver" hologram stickers from Canton website and you can hold your EMC2 for ever!
