61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think I fucked up... sent 2btc to wrong address.. help?! on: August 14, 2013, 02:26:46 PM
Probably not. You probably clicked 'Get New Address' on SR which just generates a new address for your account. As far as I know, it does not deprecate the old ones meaning you can still fund them and the balance should be credited to your SR account (only the latest one 'generated' is ever displayed which I'd guess could be confusing to users). I would suggest you wait until you get 6 confirmations on your TX (you have 2 now) - then wait 15 minutes for the SR system to update its website. If your deposit hasn't appeared after those two conditions are satisfied, you might have a problem - but preemptive panicking is not necessary at this stage.

62  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Launching Bitcoin-Anchor.co.uk in a few weeks on: August 09, 2013, 10:30:42 PM
I'd be interested to know how you get on with getting your bank account since it seems notoriously hard to get a bank account in the UK and USA for BTC centric business operations. Some other guys here: http://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinUK/comments/1k0vxv/no_joy_with_hsbc_any_bitcoin_friendly_ukeu_banks/ in the UK reported problems trying to get a business account when they mentioned the *B*(itcoin) word.

Best of luck anyhow - we could do with more UK options.
63  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Safest and lowest cost place to exchange GBP/USD for BTC? on: August 08, 2013, 08:40:04 PM
You've got a few options:

-> bitbargain.co.uk
-> localbitcoins.com
-> speedybitcoin.co.uk
-> bittylicious.com

Some offer peer-to-peer purchases, others are businesses that sell directly.
64  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BTC Fridge.... on: August 08, 2013, 04:41:04 PM
Is there any call for a website like this what with the new UK based exchanges?

What new UK based exchanges?

Likely more forward thinking than the rest of Europe... hopefully.
67  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Ray Ban Shades High Quality on: July 26, 2013, 11:46:31 AM
60 to 70 USD is very expensive for fake RayBan's. They're selling in Phuket* (Thailand) for 150 BHAT (that's about 3 GBP or ~5 USD per pair). Quality fakes to boot.

* Infact they're pretty much endemic throughout Thailand and the islands.
68  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitstamp: Should we be worried about it being shut down? on: July 25, 2013, 04:27:10 PM
Bitstamp is not a UK company and to my knowledge they do not fall within the jurisdiction of UK authorities (FCA and/or HMRC). Yes, Bitstamp Ltd is registered with Companies House but likely this is for tax purposes (by offshoring their profits to a holding company they are not liable for corporation tax in their resident state; Slovenia). The actual company running Bitstamp - as registered in Slovenia - is most probably not the same and has a Slovenian registered address.

The upshot of this means they only have to comply with the Slovenian authorities requirements on AML/KYC - which they most likely do.
69  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trying to sell Bulk BTC... Have been selling for 3% under gox, tired of it on: July 21, 2013, 08:43:20 PM
You've come to the conclusion that 3% under Mt.Gox is unreasonable for 15K USD volume? Interesting since the currency difference between most of the major exchanges vs Gox is significantly greater than 3% (Gox 91 USD vs Bitstamp 85 USD vs BTC-E 83 USD). For that volume most buyers would probably expect 7%+ under Mt.Gox... Seems like 3% is a pretty strong deal...
70  Economy / Currency exchange / [WTS] - 25 GBP iTunes voucher for BTC on: July 19, 2013, 10:30:08 AM
Looking to sell a 25 GBP iTunes voucher (sealed as new) for BTC. Please PM me any offers.

Buyer sends first (you can review my previous transaction history) or we can use escrow (buyer pays fee).

Any questions, give me a shout.
71  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitinstant is Down... no return date on: July 14, 2013, 05:14:10 PM
So basically, after launching their 'new' site and having nearly every feature fail spectacularly (an insult to the application of the word 'beta') - they've been forced to suspend their 'service' for an indeterminate period of time. This is apparently from one of the shining lights of professional Bitcoin centric businesses. Laughable. Still - lasted longer than their Bitcoin Wireless venture...

72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Users' Bitcoins Seized by DEA on: June 23, 2013, 10:42:46 PM
It would seem quite difficult under current laws to pin the drugs on the individual unless they've actually been signed for or they've (enforcement agency) established payment for the merchandise in question (which they appear to have in this case, albeit retrospectively). That's the thing about Silk Road, Atlantis and Blackmarket Reloaded et al, - there is no way to link the purchaser directly to the delivery. Any individual with malicious intent and spare financial resources could order a whole host of illicit merchandise to a victim.

Of course, you could argue that receipt of multiple packages is tantamount to an admission of guilt, but this may be difficult to prove if the 'two-way' nature has not been established exchange (E.g. payment<->goods). What if the recipient just discards multiple packages as junk? Okay - it might be reaching but without establishing intent, it would seem that law enforcement might have a hard time making any charges stick.

If they get the Bitcoin Wallet, or somehow link the keys to you then this may be a different matter - but likely, Silk Road etc don't pay your funds from a deposited address any more than Mt Gox transmit BTC withdrawals for you exclusively from BTC address that you have used to deposit funds. Establishing this would mean law enforcement would need to seize the actual addresses that made the payment *and* show they were made to Silk Road etc. As far as I'm aware, SR does not taint it's deposit addresses with nice little notes to this effect...

74  Economy / Speculation / Re: We going back to $30 on: June 09, 2013, 08:35:11 PM
I assume you mean half a million dollars of "new" money, rather than turnover. E.g. I mean people trading their coins with others for fiat - but where the total price of those trades is greater by 500 K than the preceding day. I presume this means any current hike (like the one from 12:15 to 21:30 UTC on 9th June) that has rallied to 100 USD, is likely unsustainable?

That shut me up Smiley
77  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitinstant removed cash deposit option USA on: June 08, 2013, 02:22:01 PM
bitcoin has never been concerned with the former and has never been worried about the latter.

bitcoin has been concerned with decentralization. and that just might mean leaving the us behind and going offshore with bank accounts and servers and abandoning the verisign controlled tld's.

This argument often comes up... but Bitcoin is not what most of the world transacts in - not yet anyway. Until that day comes, you'll be using your Pounds, Euros, Dollars, Yuan etc and that means you need somewhere to change from one to the other. And that's where "they" get you.

No government will wage an active campaign against Bitcoin the technology, they don't need to. They just wage war on the arterial routes that give Bitcoin its value; the exchanges and money service businesses that convert your BTC into something you can use to buy your Bottle of Pepsi at the local 7/11.  And for the record, before someone says "yay, everyone can go OTC" - they won't. The average person doesn't want the hassle or uncertainty of interacting with strangers. Sure, a few will - it's a bell curve - but the majority won't.

Humans generally want an easy and automated life. Like it or not, Visa/Mastercard and to a degree the monolithic banking system currently provide that.

78  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitinstant removed cash deposit option USA on: June 08, 2013, 01:29:19 PM
can't they just locate servers  and bank accounts off shore and use something other than a . com TLD? what could dhs do then?

No is the short answer. Not if you want any legitimacy and longevity. Do you think PayPal founder Elon Musk would be as wealthy as he is or if PayPal would have lasted as long as it has if he'd moved PayPal offshore to avoid US regulation? They (The US government) had Kim DotCom's entire MegaUpload operation terminated... and the guy was living in New Zealand. My point is that you can't work against them (the US or pretty much any Western Government), or at least not for long - and instead you need to work with them (and of course, this costs money and limits your options... E.g. no more cash deposits).

It's a painful and bureaucratic situation, but challenging the status-quo always is.
79  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitinstant removed cash deposit option USA on: June 08, 2013, 01:20:27 PM
Of course they did. It's the same reason Kraken, Coinsetter et al haven't launched. They are all scared to death of the US government - and rightly so - a few million of VC investment is not going to shield you from a DHS seizure.  Bitcoin is an awesome technology, but it disrupts one of the most fundamental tools of Western government; money. They're not going to let that happen without a fight.
