I've never looked into altcoins, it seems like most of them aren't really offering anything new. However, I am wondering if anyone has proposed an altcoin that was purely based upon the dollar/euro?
I understand that many people may hate this idea because the "dollar is going to DIE DIE DIE!!" but bear with me and just forget about that for a minute.
What would be the challenges of an altcoin being entirely based on the dollar?
I can see a future where bitcoin fails, but the technology behind it implemented into a nations currency.

There's nothing to look forward to except the collapse of civilization.
When there's a collapse of civilization, you can't buy power with bitcoins to access your bitcoins.
who is this guy?!

The international banking and media mafia controls all.
Bitcoin is no longer a secret and they are quickly cutting off.
They are also closing in on all "piracy" sites.

Freedom in real life is soon to be a story to tell the kids.
OWNED.
I don't see bitcoin bouncing back from the lastest string of bad news. (Tradehill, bitscalper, paxum)
All we got left is Mt.Gox.

Well the likely big companies to do this are probably Facebook/itunes store 2.0 and I doubt they would ever even go the CPU cryptocurrency route. It would likely be in the form of giftcards or points.

very democratic ... In Russia (by law) are not allowed to own any firearm. But you can "become the hunter," or "private guard" and officially have a gun or automatic "Saiga" .. , (not fully automatic, too.)
Well, in the U.S. we do still have the 2nd amendment, no matter how many politicians want to ignore it. The laws banning machine guns are silly. They are "feel good" laws only. To be honest, a semi-auto can be as deadly or possibly more deadly (precision) than a full-auto. This is why certain military rifles have other selections: M4 - 3 rd burst, AN94 - 2 rd burst. All full-auto does is make sure you run out of bullets fast. but why would a civilian ever need a fully automatic rifle? i agree with the law, no regular civilian should have access to these. why would you ever hunt with them to begin with? you dont need precision shooting into a massive crowd

i dont fully understand how OT works. but perhaps you smart fellas could join in on the conversation about the p2p currency exchange.

yes why can't it be similar to what #bitcoin-otc does in irc. effectively bringing the irc channel to an easy to use automated program. a user could specify the lowest rating they allow to complete a trade

this sounds awesome! i would love to do this. maybe we could come up with a group who would like to do an intercontinental trip. everything should be video documented and could be a great bitcoin human interest piece.

Very interesting indeed. P2PX (p2p exchange, yes I just invented an acronym) is an essential step to securing the future of bitcoin commerce. Right now the exchanges are the possible targets of government shutdown.
im no developer, but i imagine this could seamlessly be implemented directly into the bitcoin client, allowing a user to instantly buy and send bitcoins. any idea how they setup the whole fiat deposite scheme? it would be so convenient to have the ability to simply go out and buy a moneypak card, insert the scratch off code into the client and instantly get bitcoins.
