561  Economy / Speculation / Re: Battle of the Bots on: September 03, 2012, 08:05:57 AM
Is there really a competitive advantage when they start acting like this?  I never understood how you could make anything playing with such small amounts.

There's somebody who is running a scalping bot to take advantage of the spreads. This is pretty easy to see as trade sizes are consistently small and tend to lead the main trades by a small amount each time (often on both the buy and ask side).

It looks like somebody else who knows his/her bots has come along and with a little help from excel has calculated the % variables used in the scalping algo. They've used this knowledge to write a script to take advantage of the original scalping bot... in effect, he's stealing the small margin from the original bot on each trade.
562  Economy / Service Announcements / iPhone wallet now available on the official App Store on: September 03, 2012, 07:33:45 AM
For those who have been waiting, the blockchain app is now back on the Official App store (no workaround or jailbreak required). With a blockchain.info account you can manage transactions on your iPhone as per the website. Without an account it will just display unconfirmed network transactions.

https://blockchain.info/wallet/iphone-app

I thought I'd create an updated post about this after I met with Roger from Memorydealers a few days ago. Besides a post buried in the service discussion subforum, there doesn't seem to be much of an announcement or discussion about this.
563  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-08-14 yle.fi /Ajankohtainen kakkonen (Finnish TV2) - Bitcoin on: September 03, 2012, 06:48:19 AM
Has this affected the Euro trading volume recently? I'd expect a rise in volume within the next few days after people have done their research. All the Euro brokers should be set for some growth in trade.
564  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 02/09/2012 - Bitcoin: Alive and here to stay? Or slowly fading away? on: September 03, 2012, 06:32:35 AM
Well written article. The title seems unbiased so it'll be good PR aimed at the sceptics.

when the price drops, i get depressed. why shouldn't i be?

The above is a sure fire symptom that you are being emotional. Emotions and trading and investing go real bad together. It is effectively a guarantee that you will lose money because you decisions are dictated by your emotions.

here is your prescription:

1. Reduce risks you are taking;
2. Read classical book by Jesse Livermore "Reminiscences of a stock operator";
3. Jump to step 1 unless you are no more depressed or ecstatic on every little price movement;
4. Profit.

google: jesse reminiscences of a stock operator

I've read this, its solid material for anyone who wants to take trading seriously. Its also on many investment banks' reading lists for fresh graduates.
566  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Intersango Exchange on: September 02, 2012, 11:29:55 PM
Received my GBP withdrawal today.  Metro bank problems still manifesting, or did you guys sort that out?

Cheers,

Will

It looks like deposits have been stopped but withdrawals are still happening??

I see my withdrawals being processed now too. Thanks.

Looks like there was an article just posted on ZH about bitcoin!
569  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: cryptoxchange trades occurring - but balance not updating!? on: August 29, 2012, 09:25:05 AM
I just put in a transaction at cryptoxchange to buy 1.666 BTC at 10.395 AUD   (A test transaction, because my bids don't seem to be showing up)

Interestingly, bitcoinmonitor.com showed the 1.666BTC trade as a red dot - but my cryptoxchange AUD balance did not go down, and my BTC balance did not go up!

ouch..   I've left a message with cryptoxchange support, but I hope this is just a display issue and not something more serious.

edit: mods - please move appropriately.  I'm pretty sure I've misfiled this within the maze of subforums.

I traded heavy volume there for a brief period but continual problems like this made me give up trading there altogether. Their trading engine is nowhere near powerful enough and very slow at the best of times, let alone it's susceptibility to the affects of dos attacks. Mtgox and intersangos trading engine are much more robust.
570  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 08:49:04 AM
You people seems to forget that the united states is a corrupt swollen asshole, ponzi scheme operators are seen as commodities over here. The only reason Madoff got in trouble is because he also scammed the rich, which is a big no no to the assholes up stairs (feds). If he would have just stuck it to only the little guys, he would be sipping pina coladas off a beach owned and operated by uncle sam on some un-extraditable island country right now off tax money.

Pirate is the Ben Bernanke of bitcoin.

Lol love it.
571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [MARKETING]Get ZeroHedge to publish an article about Bitcoin on: August 25, 2012, 10:47:45 AM
Agreed, I know some well capitalized people that read zerohedge as part of their bread and butter.

+1, I'd even write the article if we the group can get to a general consensus as to what should be said. Smiley

Stu

Zh has a great audience. A huge number of financial professionals and funds make it a regular read as well as being on the top blog lists of all the major business publication sites.
572  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Theory on what pirateat40 is doing on: August 25, 2012, 10:09:28 AM
so...

pirate payed out a few people, and hasn't said anything for 2 days?

who claims to have been paid? i call fud...

Just a few (between 1 and 11) bitcoinmax accounts.  The total is less then 700 BTC and all only a few of those 11 have been verified.  So far less then the assumed accumulated interest for one day.

Interesting. Links to claims would be awesome if you have them.

Maybe he's buying himself some time??
573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone encoding a message to the address with 400k coins? on: August 20, 2012, 12:59:02 AM

Oh :/

Thanks for pointing us to that.

What a boring message though.

Let me guess... you were expecting satoshi to reveal his innermost secrets?
574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Streaming market data from Intersango on: August 19, 2012, 04:13:25 AM
I've been trying to connect to Intersango's streaming market data feed for a while now but haven't had much luck. Does anyone have any idea or code they could share to do so? From their site here:

https://intersango.com/api.php

Streaming Market Data: Is available as line delimited json messages on intersango.com port 1337.

When using the stream_socket_client() function in PHP, all I get is 'Connection refused'. Using WSSH I get the same thing.
575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Slashdot effect suck balls these days. on: August 17, 2012, 04:46:17 AM
I'd be interested to see the site traffic on slashdot over the last 10 years. Its a pretty niche crowd that I cant imagine has grown much compared to the 'lighter' to read tech blogs like engadget or gizmodo these days.
576  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Introducing a new 1.5% fee on Barclays cash deposit on: August 15, 2012, 07:03:19 AM
I won't call it a new service per se, but yes it will work normally like a Bank Transfer with however a 1.5% fee. This account only accept GBP indeed.

Ok, regardless of whether it is a new option or not, it was a well kept secret.    It is not mentioned in the list of options for "Add Funds".

So, just to clarify ... the Mt. Gox account owner can go to a Barclays without being a Barclays customer and still deposit cash and have it (less a 1.5% fee) arrive in the specified Mt. Gox account?

And there is no need to notify Mt. Gox about this?  Simply deposit cash and for the memo give the Mt. Gox account number (as described here?):

I'd also like clarification on this. Am I right in saying that online bank transfers won't be charged?
577  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: {ANNOUNCEMENT} WBX Exchange Frozen on: August 15, 2012, 06:55:03 AM
On the price appreciation, that sounds nice for those out of pocket $$, but those out BTC might be less happy.  I don't think there was ever a comprehensive list of creditors available either.  Given six months has passed, some pro-rating payment might be easiest to put the whole thing to rest.

I did consider that Patrick, however the opposite would be true if the value of BTC went down since then. Having through about it carefully, repayment amounts for the purpose of paying back customers should be calculated as of the rates at the time WBX was shut down.

Happy to hear recommendations though. I agree that something should be done given the time that has passed.

Has anyone made progress from a legal front?

Dooglus, whats your stance?
578  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: {ANNOUNCEMENT} WBX Exchange Frozen on: August 15, 2012, 05:00:54 AM
Anybody made any more progress on this one?  is it time to call it yet and just divide up the BTC ?

I have a suggestion. Given the appreciation in value of BTC. If the current holdings are liquidated at current price, can everybody be paid back at the rate/price it was when WBX stopped trading?
579  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MAGAZINE ARRIVED! on: July 19, 2012, 04:07:57 AM
Out of interest, how are the sales of the magazine going?
580  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: {ANNOUNCEMENT} WBX Exchange Frozen on: July 19, 2012, 03:54:52 AM
Any progress on the address check? I'm in the process of seeking advice to serve legal papers.
