1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Hi-PoS hybrid pos/pow no premine/ipo/ico on: July 30, 2016, 11:26:13 PM
Wallet notification of forks would be great to supplement the announcements, but wallet security might be compromised. What do our technical guys think?

In the main, our fork seems to have worked out well. Warnings well in advance, with plenty of cross-checking and advice available. For a real headache of a fork, take a look at Ethereum - it now has two solid competing forks. I'm glad I'm out of that one!
Coin base just picked up Ethereum.....

I just texted the owner to see if he would take TEKcoin, fingers crossed!  Tongue

TEKcoin fast fair, no ico, no ipo, no premine.

Good idea. Why not?!!! With HoboNickels being in some kind of limbo, TEKcoin is the heir apparent for the POS crown. It's certainly is one of the leading POS coins. I'd love to see it listed on Coinbase.

Yup simple is good . Looking good we are moving forward now ,

maybe Now

I do not mean to be rude... But.... does TEK need the face-lift?

can't hurt to fresh'n up the look & feel, I think colors are good but better with a white background myself, then red black over the top
Osmium - great design skills, but I think I prefer the simpler wallet design we already have. Besides your wallet was made for wide screen monitors and mine is a standard one. It doesn't fit.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: June 20, 2016, 12:00:40 PM

PROBLEM SOLVED ... THANKS! I had assumed that my modem had UPnP enabled since all my other wallets supplied by that modem were all working well. I went into my modem's settings and enabled UPnP. My two new HoboNickels wallets are now syncing away.

I was installing them to see if there were any problems as was reported earlier by one contributor. I also wanted to use the addnode= function.

So for anyone experiencing peer-to-peer node problems with their wallet try addnodes= from a list of peers, make sure your firewall is set to allow your wallet's QT .exe, and make sure UPnP is enabled on your modem.

Strange - I wonder why I never had this problem with all my other wallets over the last few years using the same modem.

i don't think it s was a upnp problem , the wallet should sync without open ports
but it help to get lot more nodes

my wallets have not open ports, i can't open them , and they working fine

All my other wallets, including my usual HBN wallet, all work without UPnP enabled in my modem. From my experience it seems to be new installations that need UPnP enabled. Try it. It takes just a few minutes to download the latest HBN wallet and start a new installation. It will quickly become clear if no peers are being connected. The debug file will also confirm this.

When UPnP was enabled I did notice a very significant increase in the number of connections, also with my normal HBN wallet. It currently is 62. Usually it is a handful - certainly less than 10.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone installing a new wallet without UPnP enabled in their modems and only UPnP enabled in their wallets (default setting). Was your experience similar to mine?

Maybe this is far fetched but I'm wondering whether it is possible in some way that someone could be making it more difficult, or blocking connections that are not UPnP enabled for their own selfish reasons?

My debug file reported:
"ERROR:Caddman: :Read() : open failed" and
"ERROR: GetMyExternalIP() : connection to ... failed"
"No valid UPnP IGDs found"

After seeing your message I created another .conf file in notepad, but saved it as "all files" .conf to avoid the .txt extention. Still getting same debug errors, then "Unloading wallet" and "HoboNickels exited". My firewall is set to allow HoboNickels. I'm using the same modem as my good HoboNickels wallet.

I'm wondering whether some ISPs are blocking peer-to-peer connections and whether it's new wallet installations that are affected?

enable UPnP on your modem/router

you need to create the file. be sure windows doesn't add .txt at the end of it. it also needs to go into the data folder (the one with the wallet.dat)

Thanks. I did create a HoboNickels.conf file in the same folder as the wallet.dat and peers.dat but that didn't work. Windows did add a .txt ending to it which I got rid of. I tried hobonickels.conf in lower case as well. Zilch.

My debug file reported:
"ERROR:Caddman: :Read() : open failed" and
"ERROR: GetMyExternalIP() : connection to ... failed"
"No valid UPnP IGDs found"

So I got the bootstrap finally loaded, now the wallet doesn't have any peers.  Do I need to set a custom peers?

Try this list, entered in file "HoboNickels.conf":

Quote
addnode=101.165.17.118
addnode=98.208.92.222
addnode=98.115.147.74

addnode=209.188.18.52

addnode=173.218.97.13
addnode=173.66.42.17

addnode=78.238.254.18
addnode=79.69.27.6
addnode=50.149.214.13

How do you addnodes= (peers) to the HoboNickels.conf file?
The file doesn't exist in my HoboNickels folder. I tried inserting my nodes list from another wallet using the console but it didn't work. My new wallets on 2 different computers (Windows XP and Windows 7) can't find peers.
Has anyone trying to install a new wallet recently have similar problems?

My old wallet on my original computer (XP) works perfectly.

YoBit's wallet shows:
Wallet status: Online (550065 blocks)

When you try withdraw it shows:
Withdrawal for such currency is temporary off.

What does it mean??

It is mean, that they re-synch chain with new 2.4.1 version.
But you never get bought TEK, because Yobit  have no valid TEK coins at all.

Does that mean that all the Tek in Yobit Sell Wall is not worth a single carrot?!!!
Exactly

In YoBit's chat dominikherzog said:

dominikherzog: UltrA1, warden: lonchak, у монеты TEK в сети оказалось несколько форков. Биржа оказалась на одном из них. В ближайшее время мы пересоберём заново и загрузим чейн заново и ваш депозит зачислится.

Translation:

There were several forks of the TEK coins in the network. YoBit was on one of them. Soon they rebuild and download the chain again and all deposits will be credited.

It seems like TEK will be repaired and then pumped.

Who is dominikherzog?

He doesn't seem to be speaking authoritatively on the behalf of Yobit when he refers to them as "they".

Looking at presstab today still a lot under 100 going for stakes!
If the micro staking antics continue, people will become aware that things are loaded against them and avoid investing in Tek like the plague. We should have a better picture of what is happening in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

And again, what is a micro stake? To some it might be anything less than 100. To others with large stockpiles of Tek, it might be as high, or even higher than 1000.

How crucial is the change to the new clean wallet? I'm on the 10th day of staking with the 2.4.1.0 non-clean wallet?

Could I wait till after staking in 20+ days time, or should I do the change to the cleaner wallet now?

Will be on Periscope later with @paradimeshift talking about new @maxcoinproject listing on @StartJOIN.

I look forward to this and hope that it will dispell any doubts and clear up mixed messages.

You have missed it https://www.periscope.tv/w/1ypKdVAPoEVJW

I didn't miss it. I've just watched all 28 minutes. The broadcast was recorded and is still available to watch. Here's the full link to it:

Rather that comment on the broadcast itself, I suggest that all genuine investors should watch it and come to their own conclusions. I've come to mine.

I will say this though: Max Keiser has done a great deal of good work that we should be grateful for. I personally didn't find the answers that I was seeking and for me, my Startcoin journey has ended. I wish all genuine investors well.

Some of the trolls here just put out garbage, but occasionally there is some substance in what they say. So much so that, together with recent events, I'm starting to rethink my position with holding this coin. Here is why:

- Max Keiser no longer claims ownership of Startcoin/Startjoin on his Twitter page.

- When I saw him appear with Karl Gray in support of Startcoin a while ago, he seemed disinterested like he'd rather be somewhere else.

- I think I remember Max recently talking about creating a new altcoin. Why? Isn't Start[Suspicious link removed]d enough to concentrate his efforts on? Heaven knows that it is needed.

- All too often when Max has made an announcement that pushes the price up, there is a big price fall shortly after. It's as if, as the trolls have pointed out, that he is pushing the price up to milk it.

- Max seems to be now pushing his new BitcoinCapital ventures, rather than Startcoin.

- Karl Gray seems to be doing all the running. It's as if he has bought the rights to Startcoin off Max, with Max giving token support.

- Karl was critical of Stacy Herbert showing up late in his first podcast. This might have been mock criticism, or it might not have been. It seemed serious to me. It could be tension in realising he might have bought a turkey, if that is what has happened.

- The substance in Karl's first two podcasts were for me, unconvincing. Some cosmetic changes, but mostly pie in the sky and all in the future. Talking about Startcoin being second to Bitcoin in two years time seems highly optimistic. What about Ethereum? What about Litecoin? And two years is a long time in an altcoin's lifespan.

- I get the impression that Karl's podcasts are a panic reaction to the price falling. All of a sudden he shows his face.

- With Karl's financial backing and Max's marketing real progress in positioning Startcoin well into the Top 10 coins should have been made by now. I'm appalled that Karl has left it so long before doing something.

- I'm also questioning Startcoin's focus on being a crowdfunding coin. Buying it to give to others sounds very altruistic and good, but is altruism what I really want as an investor?

- As the trolls have pointed out, Maxcoin could be a template of what is going to happen to Startcoin. Max and Karl made promises with that coin that never materialised.

I'm voicing my opinion here strongly to get some real action from Max and Karl. Give the community some real substance. Show us all the level of your committment. Otherwise, I for one will be leaving - pronto.

In short, I'd be more convinced if both Karl and Max assured us that Max is still in charge. I'd also be more convinced if Max would beat the Startcoin drum a hell of a lot more than he has done of late - and a lot more than he has done with his BitcoinCapital ventures. Karl and Max, I challenge you both to come out and prove me wrong. If you were both as committed as you have claimed to be, with your resources Startcoin should have been a premier coin long ago.

Edit: I note that my words are being doctored here and that isn't "Start[Suspicious link removed]d" enough? is coming out as a suspicious link! Incredible.
Edit2: There, it's done it again!

I am not really sure that dude is an AsShole?!
All play by the same rule, if there is someone who have found the way to cheat.. then we can all agree and do a FIX and move on.. everybody just jump into new wallet and thats it!!!
This people will have to do this.. or they will make thair own coin choose or do a fork from this brilliant coin or go after some other smart commodities Smiley
Sorry for my english this evening Wink

+1000
These ppl who are "gaming" the system can only do so because of the person who created this retarded POS scheme.
They don't cheat as such but make use of the rules.
So if you don't like it fix it instead of calling them ass holes !

( For the 3rd time... )
Why don't you guys use coin supply to adjust % instead of network load ? Huh

I would agree with you on linking the percentage payout to the coin supply and cutting the link with the network load. I would like to see micro-amounts prevented from staking for reasons I've stated before and Thundertoe is doing that with an amount he has adjudged to be the best value.

Thundertoe was not pointing the finger at anyone in particular with his 'asshole' comment and it seemed to me that there could have been several reasons why he made it, although I have seen a steady stream of worse examples over the last few days.

If I remember rightly, Thundertoe has been consistent in sticking to the 40% staking possibility for quite some time now. Perhaps he sees that as TEKcoin's 'unique selling point' and wants to retain that claim to fame? Linking the percentage to the coin supply would make 40% increasingly unachievable and lose that USP - making it more like other POS coins. However, I think that it will become inevitable that he will have to bite the bullet on this one at some point in the future.

For the now though, let's let Thundertoe get on with it. He has heard what the community have had to say. I'm sure that he will take that into account with the decisions he will be making.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Hi-PoS hybrid pos/pow no premine/ipo/ico on: October 10, 2015, 10:22:33 AM
Whilst driving through a remote part South Wales with my family for a holiday, I stopped off at a cafe/restaurant with a very poor Internet connection. I was troubled by a series of posts on the HoboNickels Bitcointalk thread from vegasguy. He wanted to know how "to send many transactions to the same address in small amounts" - but was finding it difficult. He was thinking of using the 'sendmany' command. Here's a link to the Bitcointalk page in question: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303749.msg11837695#msg11837695

A very capable member of the community replied to him by confirming that all Bitcoin-derived coins have the 'sendmany' capability. I tried to head vegasguy off from exploring further by trying to suggest that HoboNickels was different because it was a Scrypt-based coin - hoping that others would understand what I was trying to do and pick up upon it.

I wasn't concerned so much about lots of moderate amounts which can help the Network. I was concerned about flooding the system with micro-amounts which is a MASSIVE, theoretical security risk. Stopping the micro-amounts from staking is, to my mind, a very desirable property for TEK to have and should be adopted without further delay.

I think that we should accept a gradual, fair-to-all, falling POS percentage to put a break on an increasing coin supply. I don't think that it's crucial since, at the moment, the TEK coin supply at 42,000,000 is considerably less than most other established coins - surprising considering the amount of time that TEKcoin has been around.

Biomech's and thefix's suggestions seem reasonable to me, although I would prefer the POS return percentage to be simply and gradually, inversely-linked to the coin supply - possibly kicking in before we hit 75,000,000 ... I'm following Biomech's example of plucking a figure out of the air to get the ball rolling.

I agree with Kiklo's observation that "the whole point behind requiring a 1000 per block, was to lower the difficulty so that people could start getting 40% stakes again and allowing the smaller blocks to stay will kind of defeat that purpose". However, I would like to emphasise the security aspect as a further reason for action in this direction.

If nothing else is done, stopping micro-amounts from staking should be implemented as quickly as possible and would increase the security of TEKcoin tremendously.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [START] StartCOIN 2.0 - The digital currency for crowdfunding on: July 11, 2015, 11:42:10 AM
Lots of volatility in other coins too. Litecoin and Peercoin have experienced big jumps, then big losses. No doubt that other coins that are currently experiencing big surges will shortly, likewise, have the rugs pulled out from underneath their feet. Big money is influencing the market, then shaking ordinary speculative investors out.

I don't have a great deal of START. If I sold now it would be piddling. I'm holding the START I have. It's my ticket to ride. Up, or down. Both. There are reports that the big swings are coming from big money play in China. Simon Dixon (BnkToTheFuture > a Startcoin partner > Bitcoin Capital) is based in Hong Kong. This is STARTing to become very intriguing indeed ...  Wink

Advise caution. As for myself, I'm definitely in for the ride!
