I used VirWoX quite regularly but yes their commission is high I think its about 3% to exchange GBP -> SL then another 3% from SL->BTC or visa versa and if you wish to withdraw from VirWoX they charge £1 withdrawal fee.
A cheaper alternative would be something I would be interested in personally and I am sure there would be others also

I took a chance, I hate mtgox and their AML. unfortunately the intersango people cannot sort a bank out. I decided to give project a go.
I think I first messaged him last night at about 7pm. we spoke for a bit and came to a deal (bitcoins for gbp). I sent the coins first yesterday, 50 of them. and today he put the cash in my bank and I could withdraw it.
the me sending first made me a little nervous - but he is honest and I look forward to using him again when I might require fiat.

This is the interest repayment for this month as agreed.
This now leaves 3 more repayments of $250 on or before 25th Jan, 25th Feb and 25th March as well as the final paypal payment due before end of Jan however will most likely be repaid sooner.

Shouldnt take more than 24 hours - usually less than 2 however this is not guaranteed - if it doesnt show up by tomorrow I would call them.
Barclays -> Barclays is instant.

The times given below are a fair estimate but are not guaranteed. Payments from a Barclays Pingit Wallet take the same time as from any other Barclays current account.
If the recipient is registered:
Payments to other Barclays current accounts will normally go through immediately.
Payments to other UK current accounts with Faster Payment Service could be processed within 2 hours but could take up to 24 hours.
If the recipient is not registered:
Once you make the payment, the recipient has 24 hours to register for Barclays Pingit. The payment will then be made along the same timescales as above. If they don't register in time, no payment will be taken and your instruction will be cancelled.
