I think that DigiReports are really important so that community and also possible investors know that development for the DigiByte is ongoing.

Are there any statistics on number of transactions per day in DGB network, transaction volume in DGB/ USD etc. ?

I haven't used Linux much - which Linux should I use for Digibyte Core Wallet so that everything is safe?
The wallet was built and tested with the latest version of Ubuntu.
Thanks!
not sure if ubuntu will sit on an arm rpi? I'll check that out when I get a round tuit but do let us all know if you find out first.
Actually I asked about Linux which I plan to install on a desktop computer, keep it offline and keep my DGB there.

Probably stupid question - if I mine Digibyte (with USB miner on Raspberry Pi) then I am a node too? How much difference does one node make at this stage?

If you are mining through a mining pool, then no you aren't a node.

You are a node if you have the full wallet open and connected on your computer.

If you were solo mining through the full wallet, then you would be a node, but few people do this.

Thanks for the answer.
So I could mine through mining pool on that Raspberry and also have wallet open on that same Raspberry all the time to contribute to the network, right? But how important for network is one node at this stage?

A cryptocurrency uses nodes to transmit messages, it's part of the process of creating/verifying transactions. The way I understand it, the messages are sent to random nodes each time. So with more nodes on the network, these transaction messages are not being sent to the same nodes over and over. The more nodes there are on a network the more secure it is.

Unfortunately, there isn't any incentive to keeping the full (core) wallet open on your computer all the time. In fact, it's a bit of a security risk to your wallet if someone gains access to your computer. But, it does make the network better. A good solution would be to add an empty core wallet that you never use to your computer and leave that running. Keep your personal wallet on another computer.

It's up to each person to decide if they feel it's helping or not.  In reality, one wallet isn't going to make a difference, but if everyone thought that way and turned theirs off, then it could limit the effectiveness of the network.

Thanks again.
How big flash card do I need for Raspberry to mine and run wallet (node)?
Can anyone help with this question? ^^^

Kinda cheap?
Are there more powerful USB miners?

What USB miner for using with Raspberry Pi 2 would you suggest that does not consume much electricity (few cents a day?) but mines somewhat meaningful amount of DGB? Whole operation runs at loss of course.

Does this mean I am mining?

2GH/s SHA-256 ?  You might get 200 DGB in a month of mining with that, if you are lucky.
200 DGB/ month - doesn't sound good...

Speaking about Digibyte network - in Digiexplorer there are many transactions of value less than 1 USD.
Do we know what typically are those transactions?
Real people sending DGB to each other? People sending themselves from one wallet to other? Something else?
probably payments to small miners. We need lots more of them. We need the community to mine for glory in massive numbers.
People don't do it because it is expensive but if you truly believe in DigiByte, you will mine for it. You will be mining for, what looks like on paper as a loss, but there is nothing more useful you could do for DigiByte than this. At the same time you should buy small amounts of DigiByte and hold all of it.
I call the people that do this Knights because it is them that defend the coin and boy does it need defending.
I tell you what if you put a usb miner to work in the DigiHash pool where they take 3% to support development. If you leave your rewards untouched and in your wallet for a month after you have mined them, then I will pay you 6% back out of my own pocket!

In fact, this offer open to the community. PM me if you are interested. Smiley

I haven't actually mined anything yet. Where do I get this USB miner? I understand that it will be unprofitable for me to mine but I could still try it for fun.
Now, that's the spirit felix_one. Have a look on ebay for for a small bitcoin miner that suits your pocket.
Is this any good?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antminer-U2-1-6-2-0-GH-s-USB-ASIC-Bitcoin-Miner-/281758438257?hash=item419a1c9371
yes that is fine, I'd give you 6% back on that. Have a good look around to see if you can get it any cheaper but I think that is about how much they go for. With a usb miner you will need a computer that is on all the time connected to the internet. A lot of people use raspberry pi's as the controller because they don't want to tie up their machine. As you are the first to take me up on my offer, I will extend my offer to you personally for anything up to a Bitmain U3 (63GH/s). Wink
Thanks, I have some more questions though. What OS do I need to install on that Raspberry when I get it? Does mining use lot of internet bandwidth?

I guess the point is - DigiByte doesn't sound like it is money.
Digi = digital, byte = basically also something digital for most of the people. No reference to it being money/ money-like.

Can you give an example of a fiat coin that sounds like money? If i'll take baht, rupee, rand, yuan, yen, dollar, euro... don't sound as money to me neither. Only the crypto's did glue the word coin to their brew.

Behind every fiat there is a government with all its administrative/ information resources - therefore everybody knows that fiat in question IS money. Digibyte doesn't have that of course.

There is this comment posted under the first DigiReport edition on Youtube:

Hi there, I looked around for this cryptocurrency, found it interesting somewhat.
But then I stumbled into this video.
I find it interesting, but I noticed some problem with the whole thing, doesn't look convincing and professional to me.
I am a graphic and communication expert, so here are my hints:
1) first of all the name. DIGIBYTE. What does that stand for? A byte is already digital, it can't be analogic. So digibyte essentially means nothing. Why not DigiCoin? Just to be original? Bad choice. DigiCoin would have been so much better. Even DCoin would have been better. I know it's difficult now to change the name, but you should, in my opinion.
2) in general all the graphics looks unprofessional. Logos here and there look quite bad. I am a graphic, so I know what I'm talking about. The D shape is ok, but the blue color is banal. I'd choose another shade of blue, more hi-tech inspiring.
Good luck with the project.

Valid points?
