141  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Labs ASIC release date - no earlier than February 2013 on: June 19, 2012, 12:44:00 PM
Hi guys, I basically had a prophetic dream vision last night, that the BFL Labs ASIC won't be shipped until February 2013 at best.

I don't even want them to ship, they're gonna ruin Bitcoins. I spent ~2000$ on quad 7970's, only the cards, and they're planning to release a "coffee warmer" 3ghs+ ASIC that does more than my cards for 150$? Eff that, difficulty will skyrocket and put a strain on video card miners.
Delicious tears

No, it won't ruin "Bitcoins"
It will ruin your fail investment, only that. And you deserve that.

Bitcoin will only gain from ASICs
The 7970s will still be worth a LOT if you sell them, and there is no hard timeframe for this vapourware at this stage, so you're in no danger.

+1
GPUs can and will be reused for something else. If people are selling their GPUs to get FPGAs, then it's a good time to get some cheap GPUs and keep them until the reward halves, or the ASICs are out (not this year I guess), or it's not profitable any longer to run them. Buying and selling (probably) at the same price is a win/win deal in ROI terms.

I just looooove such threads!
Soz for the off topic Tongue
143  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL ASIC Announcement - Truth or Troll ? - The LONG CON just got longer on: June 19, 2012, 06:14:49 AM
I can understand BFL for not posting delivery times for devices that are still under development/construction. But the fact they don't post every single detail about the trade program, makes me think there is a (possibly) shady reason for that.
144  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What do you use to track your Bitcoins and investments? on: June 18, 2012, 09:15:26 PM
I use a spreadsheet as well, that takes care of the calculations. I suppose more advanced methods do exist... Anyone else?
145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IPv6 now live on bitcoin network - please test on: June 18, 2012, 09:02:25 PM
Glad to hear that Bitcoin has gone IPv6! Unfortunately I don't have IPv6 equipment just yet, to test but soon (I hope...)
146  Economy / Services / Re: CellCoin: Pay for your Prepaid Wireless Refills with bitcoins and save up to 5% on: June 18, 2012, 08:23:59 PM
They are all US wireless.  We are looking at a new vendor which will offer an expanded line up including IMTU (International Mobile Top Up) which allows unified refills on just about any international prepaid carrier (400+ carriers in 102 countries).  There are a couple technical issues to work out though.
I'd be interested if you supported Greek carriers at some point. Looking forward....
Congrats for the useful service Smiley
147  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] OpenBitASIC : The Open Source Bitcoin ASIC Initiative on: June 18, 2012, 05:27:30 PM
I really like the Open idea of this project.
I too would like to see devices for smaller-scale miners. Devices priced close to $500, attractive to a wider audience.
Last but not least, I'm in favor of the bitcoiners' direct investment in the project.
A project made from us (open source), supported by us (direct investment), targeted to us (lower cost of ownership).

Watching closely.
148  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 17, 2012, 06:03:24 AM
P2Pool release 3.0 tag: 3.0 hash: a4cde222d397b47ae5646ca74a8036025d745df8

Windows binary: http://u.forre.st/u/lgljvrzx/p2pool_win32_3.0.zip
Source zipball: https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/zipball/3.0
Source tarball: https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/tarball/3.0

Changes:
* P2Pool will "skip ahead" to building on blocks not yet processed by the local bitcoind based on block headers received from P2Pool peers. This should significantly reduce the number of orphaned blocks we have if everyone upgrades.
* Latency/high CPU usage caused by requesting shares from old nodes is fixed by now not downloading shares more than a day old

This change increments the share version to 3, so once 50% of people upgrade, the rest will be notified by messages on their P2Pool console. So, please upgrade! Note that this isn't a hard fork of the P2Pool chain, so old nodes will continue to work, only spamming the upgrade messages.

Node upgraded with version 3. I too would like to check the Win64bit version if possible please.
149  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Intel HD Graphics 4000? on: June 14, 2012, 10:06:44 AM
I haven't used this chip you're talking about. Considering though a GPU like 5750 hashes for about 170MH/s and the APU of AMD A8-3850 (which is 6550) does a 65MH/s, I seriously doubt this Intel chip can go up to 100MH/s.

Waiting for XX55XX to post real life results from his new laptop Smiley
150  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone actually got mining results for a 7950? on: June 14, 2012, 07:30:47 AM
500MH/150W != 500MH/20W. I wouldn't say it's comparable. About resale value you right.

Agree.
With a price per KWh 0.08 EUR the electricity bill will be:
1.152 EUR per month for the FPGA
9.734 EUR per month for the GPU

The only reason I use GPUs (yet) is their resale value.
151  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Intersango Exchange on: June 13, 2012, 11:55:49 AM
Dear Intersango,

I paid a closer look at the EUR order book today and noticed that over 75% of the total BIDs are “fictional”. People are placing large buy orders with ridiculously low bid prices creating that way a false demand of bitcoins and are a bad influence on the market itself. I don’t see anyone selling BTC for 0.0011 and 0.00010 EUR per BTC any time soon.

I propose BIDs and ASKs that are over or lower than 30% of the average market price, to be excluded from the graph at the top, so we have a clear picture of the supply and demand of bitcoins. The bids will stay on the order book of course, they’ll just not show-up on the graph.

Your thoughts?

The graph only shows bid/asks which are within 15% of the best bid/ask.

phantomcircuit,
Thank you for the clarification.
152  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Intersango Exchange on: June 13, 2012, 06:05:39 AM
miernik,

I respect your opinion, just two questions:
1) Did you check the graph I'm talking about?
2) What was your first impression of it?

Lastly, if no one should view the sum of BTC bid orders as a measure of BTC demand, then what's the point of having the graph?

Looks good now, no errors Smiley

EDIT: Any plans to support Unicode character set? I tried to add an advertisement with comments in Greek but the characters were converted to Huh??

Hmm, I'll try to fix this problem ASAP.

Edit: should be fixed

Sweet! Thank you Smiley

Brilliant idea, well done.

... but unfortunately I get a 500 - Internal server error right now on the http://localbitcoins.com/ Please note that other URLs work fine, like for example http://localbitcoins.com/location/DE/Berlin/

EDIT: By the way, would it be possible to sort by price? When you get too many results close to you, you might want to pick the best price ;-) (unless it will only display 10 results at a time, so no need for sorting)

Well, there were couple of bugs, they should be fixed now and there shouldn't be 500 errors any more. If you are still getting them, drop me a msg.

We will add ability to stort by price, but that is currently minor priority, since there aren't any sellers to make this kind of sorting sensible.

Looks good now, no errors :)

157  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: http://www.pyramining.com/ - Mining Company on: June 07, 2012, 08:59:46 AM
Smoovious, you're absolutely right! The usage of the insurance service itself does not pose any risk.
If eliale meant only that (i.e. using the insurance does not pose any risk), then please accept my apologies... Because he talked about both cost (i.e. no cost) and risk, I thought he meant that if you get insured, you will not have any risk of losing your coins, at no cost.
158  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: http://www.pyramining.com/ - Mining Company on: June 07, 2012, 07:58:05 AM
Also, do not forget to ask a referral number to us in order to get insured at no cost and no risk for you!
Thank you!

According to your terms, you will not pay the insurance certificate if Bitcoin will be declared illegal by the USA and/or The European Union. So there is a risk for customers, it just depends on two things instead of one (pyramining closing down AND Bitcoin declared illegal). Please don't get me wrong, I do believe your service is innovative and useful, I just disagree on the no risk part ;-)
159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Password Leak] LinkedIn database hacked on: June 07, 2012, 07:46:23 AM
The safest thing you can do as a consumer is user a random password at each site.
Doing that is much easier with a dedicated password manager, like LastPass.

Apologies to all for the offtopic but if you think about it, it's not.
We're talking about a major password leak at LinkedIn, but we're comfortable to have ALL of our passwords stored on an online service (!). Reading more about LastPass and watching the video on how to use it, I understand that LastPass saves the passwords online, so it can "restore" them to another browser on the same or another computer. Moreover, there are features to store auto-fill information (address, email, etc), so you don't have to fill it every time on every site.
Can you imagine the impact if this site has a similar leak of user data?

Local storage (encrypted ofc) or even what Steve suggested is the way to go IMO.
