1  Economy / Securities / Re: Is GLBSE also slow for you ? on: July 20, 2012, 10:58:44 AM
GLBSE has been having these issues since v2.0 launch  and the Google OTP has just made it worst, as I usually need to type my OTP two or more times before it works and make sure I type it as soon as it recycles to a new one. Then you get to the re-captcha screen which is even more of a pain in the ass.

Unfortunately i'm a small time investor so I'm selling all of my GLBSE assets and buggering the hell out. Mining is moving downwards (at least for the next few months 'til we have a more clear picture with ASICs and stuff), GLBSE is not capable of scaling all that gracefully so I've decided to buy a used old netbook, install Ubuntu and Armory, liquidate all of my assets, including my GPUs and workstations, put all my coins in that laptop and wait it out.

Yea I'm probably going to lose some potential profit in the process but better safe than sorry.
2  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Earnings with GPUMAX? on: May 25, 2012, 09:56:42 AM

Paint me stupid but the PPS is not a secret to anyone... What is "secret" is the asking price of miners + GPUMAX's own cut, which should be possible to be calculated if you monitor the variance in price over a period of days and average.

I'm very interested in DI's debt. I will buy all available debt in a couple of days when my Intersango funds clear...

I thought I went without saying but just in case nobody is talking about breaking anyone's bones. You track them down, have a chat with them and sort a payment plan out. If they insist on ignoring you, then you involve lawyers.

On the other hand if we had a decent scoring system then we would know who to trust.

I'm just interested in everyone's input especially those who have bad debt and/or do a lot of peer to peer business.
5  Economy / Services / Re: The first BTC Debt Collection Agency and DUNS-like database on: April 11, 2012, 09:05:31 PM
The first thing you may want to do before getting in the debt collection business, debt collection 101 let's call it, is learn the correct spelling of the word debt.

noted! Wink

In regards to the legality of it, I think this is open to interpretation. Not paying a peer loan is still considered theft. Also, in the spirit of System D and bitcoin creating a government-free, independent database again seems like the right way and nothing more than a more elaborate OTC implementation.

Again, I'm open to discussion... This is just an idea and a proposal...

One thing you may wish to be careful about is that (and I can't speak for other countries) is that violating debt collection laws in the US opens YOURSELF up to significant damages even if the debt is legit.

We are talking in the range of $1000 per violation.  Those damages are punitive so the debtor doesn't have to suffer any actual damages (in legal sense) to win.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm

You will want to become very aware of the FDCPA.  There are debtors in the US who use the FDCPA and sloppy debt collection practices by some companies to rack up hundreds of violations and then sue debt collection agencies for six figures.

"Not paying a peer loan is still considered theft."
This is one example.  That would be a violation of the FDCPA.  Not paying a debt isn't theft under US law.  Stating that is a material misrepresentation of the debt.  If I was one of your debtors that single false statement could cost you up to $1,000 in punitive damages.  Most debtors in the US are woefully unaware of the rights but the law gives significant protection to them.

Very good information, thanks.

7  Economy / Services / The first BTC Debt Collection Agency and DUNS-like database on: April 11, 2012, 08:40:48 PM
This is it kids, we've discussed it again and again and I think it's time we do this properly.

We need two things:

1. A debt collection agency
2. A way of registering and scoring individuals.

For the first I propose the following:

I am creating a debt collection agency. On behalf of the agency I will need local collectors in various areas. The financials will be arranged as follows:

a. "Buy Out Plan": I will buy off the debt off your back for 20% of its value; or
b. "Collection Plan": I will collect it on your behalf and keep as a fee 60% of it.

As I can't be everywhere I will require the assistance fo local debt collectors who will receive (risk-free) 40% of the fee in Plan A (Buy Out) and 60% in Plan B (Collection). As I will be buying the dept in Plan A and thus putting myself in risk the collectors will get less obviously so the Agency can brake even. In Plan B (simple collection) the agency gets a minimal fee for doing the background research and facilitating the service but the collectors get the bulk of it.

I provide you with the following example for a debt of 200BTC:

If the collector gets the debt from the debtor they get paid their percentage either way they have nothing to lose.

In regards to part 2 of my proposal, I propose a scoring system similar to that used by Dun & Bradstreet. Each physical or legal person gets assigned a nine digit number. This number is linked to a historic score that changes as the legal of physical person's situation changes. The Agency will be responsible for veryfing their identity and maintaining an up-to-date database. Participation is voluntary.

As an example, Party A would like to do business with Party B, Party A can request for a fee Party B's number, score (based on trading history, character, age, location and other risk factors) and associated report (private and confidential information of Party B will NOT be released to Party A just an indication that they are on file). In the occasion where Party B is not in the database,  a request will be made directly to Party B by the Agency without necessarily naming Party A.

1. Party B retains the freedom to decline to voluntarily provide that information. Party A will be informed and they can make their own conclusions if they want to go ahead.
2. Party B, chooses to participate in the database, pays a fee, provides the relative documentation and is assigned a number and a score.

It goes without saying that anyone can volunteer without waiting for a request.

In case Party B is indeed a scammer and the information provided by the Agency have been wrong and a debt cannot be collected by the Agency, the Agency will use its own funds to repay up to 60% of total sum to Party A.

Ideas, Input, Interest, Corrections? Let's discuss...

I'm afraid the website needs serious usability improvements and a UI revamp.

I'm not trying to put you off, I'm trying to give productive input. I hope it doesn't come out the wrong way.
9  Economy / Services / Re: Collection agents needed on: April 10, 2012, 06:42:55 PM
Would a "Wall of Shame/Praise" and OTC-style ratings (http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratings.php)  website across the BTC lending world be a good idea?
At least two are scammers (dunno about bcj), not honest defaulters, so no, not really. DI even claims the "DI" who was on this forum committed identity theft.

I see, okay so how about something like Zopa (https://uk.zopa.com/lending/great-returns) where your identity is verified, you're assigned a score and then lenders and share the risk by splitting the amount they invest amongst multiple borrowers.

Anyway I'm in the London area so let me know if I can help 200BTC is quite an amount...

Man, things are heating up around here. I was away for a week (illness/holidays combo) and a helluva things happened. I must transfer some funds to GLBSE asap...
13  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece's New Currency on: March 30, 2012, 09:47:55 AM
now.. on the topic.
As much as i enjoy the bitcoin project , you can understand that its still immature(there are no applications, ease of use) for use in everyday transactions.  A 50-60-70... yr old cannot use / understand this "bitcoin thingie",  they do not own a computer  and so on.
Although it would be an interesting project, in real world terms its too soon for something like this.
If you manage to say educate your grandparents to make/accept payments buy showing a qrcode in their smartphone , we could start discussing about it. until then, stop spreading fud

Well that depends, I've worked with 70 year olds who are very much clued in and I've worked with 50 year olds that can barely send a text. That 70 year old was an economist before he retired, on the other hand the 50 year old is a carpenter. You can see how that works, since the carpenter never had to touch a computer in his life. However same does not go for his 20 year old son who is in the same trade but grew up with computers and consoles. On the other hand the economist was using computers at one form or another since the 70ies.

So it's not about age as much as it's... well, should I say "class"? Don't know, maybe "background"?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proposal: friendly addresses with enhanced privacy on: March 29, 2012, 11:53:14 PM
I see the point of this but I'm still weary of centralising a P2P solution. I think firstbits and btc.co are both valid ideas to resolve this.

I guess my main concern would be to make sure that we still have the option to use all and either way for payments. If we were to do something along the lines of alice^mtgox.com as mentioned above I would prefer something along the lines of OpenID instead of a specific retailer. An OpenID-type implementation that allowed me to create aliases bound to different base58 address.

Having said all of the above we can see that QR codes are becoming more common both in desktop as well as mobile wallets. I truly believe QR or maybe other types of barcodes will prove to be the solution in the long term, since they are designed to be easy and fast to read by a machine and can be read even if the resolution is bad or small parts have been damaged.
15  Economy / Goods / Re: Raw Thai Honey (First 40 BTC of profits go to the forum!) 8 KG for sale! on: March 29, 2012, 12:13:44 PM
I misread it and thought you were sending Thai money by weight. It does have the right sign though :-)

Still, sweet deal.

Do you ship to the UK?

I misread it and thought you were sending Thai Honeys... Now that would have been a good deal!
16  Economy / Services / Re: any psychiatrists here? on: March 29, 2012, 12:08:30 PM
Haha, you are probably right.  But, then again, psychiatrists aren't really trained to be counselors or therapists.

Phycologist = A man or woman who is trained to listen to people with no to mild mental issues, be it temporary or historical, ask questions such as "and how did that make you feel?" or "would you like to talk about your father?" maintain you as a client for an indefinite amount of time and actually make altogether little to no difference into your quality of life anymore than a good friend would. (You can easily substitue mental to physical and get a description for a physiotherapist)

Psychiatrist = A man or woman who is trained to write prescription drugs for craploads of money that you can get from the black market for half the price and twice the strength.

I kid... I kid... New Yorkers and Londoners would have died out without them...

18  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] muBit - Bitcoin Venture Capital Fund (IPO Started with Asset ID "MU") on: March 28, 2012, 07:03:30 PM
would you like to send the future report to some significant shareholders, like owning more than 5% of the company.

Shareholder forum/mailing list would be +1 from me...

Although I would prefer it if there was no elitist "premium" membership caveat involved.
19  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] muBit - Bitcoin Venture Capital Fund (IPO Started with Asset ID "MU") on: March 28, 2012, 01:57:28 PM
Weekly Investment Opportunity Study

Gigamining is about to provide a bond each of which sold at 1BTC and represents 5MH/s of mining power. It's more profitable than PureMining if the price doesn't change in its actual IPO. The problem is that "soon" in BFL's term might mean anything from two months to the end of time.

There are some Cognitive shares asked at a price less than 105% of the IPO price.

Fresca Mining is planning to further reduce its IPO price. We hope they could finally provide a good deal.

TyGrr-Bank will reduce its interest rate to 2.5% from Apr. 3rd.

TyGrr-Bot is already selling its IPOs.

Horses are shit. Anyone who rides horses, eats horses, has relations with horses, and/or owns horses is a complete fool.

Surely not all horse riders... I'm sure I'm not the only one old enough to remember Xena (Lucy Lawless)
