301  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is Bitcoin's tipping point? on: September 12, 2012, 01:24:12 PM
By "wide adoption" I don't mean a universally accepted world currency (this is a pipedream), but a share comparable to silver or gold, as suggested in the OP.
...since about 2m have been destroyed...

Wait a second... 2 million bitcoins have been destroyed? You got a source for that? I would have thought it would be nowhere near that high.
302  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you base your speculation on? on: September 12, 2012, 01:14:46 PM

My palantir never lies
303  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to earn BTC on: September 12, 2012, 12:43:41 PM
It depends what your skills are OP. What are you good at? If you have trading skills or are willing to learn you could consider buying and selling on the exchanges, or arbitraging between them.
304  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Sydney Bitcoin Community on: September 12, 2012, 12:34:54 PM
I think you'll get a good bit of interest for this. I am definitely keen. It is about time Sydney had some meetups  Smiley
305  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do I have to write five POSTS to get out of here? on: September 11, 2012, 02:38:44 PM
If one's serious about these forums, the n00b requirements are hardly onerous, to be fair.
+1
This is why I never understood why people bother to apply for whitelisting. 5 posts and 4 hours is nothing.
306  Other / Off-topic / Re: On Julian Assange and some bets on: September 11, 2012, 02:29:04 PM
He is one of the Australians I most admire. I do not agree that he is a played card. While he is at the helm of wiki leaks, and outside the penal system, I think he will continue to contribute in a meaningful way to the causes of transparency and innovative journalism. He is also great for bitcoin, by showing the world that it is possible to bypass a banking blockade by the worlds most powerful financial institutions.
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [IDEA] Litecoin Roadtrip on: September 11, 2012, 02:11:33 PM
Someone should do a litecoin roadtrip paying for things with only litecoin.

LOL might not get far but it is a thought. Cheesy

Sounds good lets make it happen. Volunteers?
308  Economy / Speculation / Re: [DSP] is 10 the new 5 or is 15 the new 32 on: September 11, 2012, 02:07:52 PM
A stable price of 10 does make a lot of sense with the upcoming block reward halving. So yes, i would agree that 10 is the new 5.

Well done, and keep up the good work!

Ah so it is. Thanks
311  Other / Meta / Forum Ranks on: September 07, 2012, 01:23:41 PM
How many posts do you need to get each forum rank? I'm sure this info is posted somewhere on the forums, but I have personally never seen it.
312  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help! Serious Noob mistake! on: September 07, 2012, 01:18:51 PM
this is good to see
313  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does technical analysis work for Bitcoins as well? on: September 07, 2012, 12:59:10 PM
What do you think? Does the Bitcoin market function like every other (stock) market? Can technical analysis tools be used to forecast market trends?

E.g. Elliott Waves, lines of support, resistance, channels, and more obscure formations such as flags, pennants, balance days and cup and handle patterns.

Do you guys use technical analysis on e.g. MtGox?
I would say that it works. But as with conventional trading, I wouldn't want to rely solely on it. Its just another feather in your cap, along with fundamentals, news, and weekend dip, among other things.
314  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoins on Ebay on: September 07, 2012, 12:38:02 PM
Oh and also.. some people legitely buy btc from ebay just because its the best way they know..

#bitcoin-otc on freenode could also be helpful for people just wanting to buy some BTC.
Its not that hard Smiley

Are they doing it at market rate, or at ebay like prices?
It depends on what you negotiate with the people on there. But yes you can get market rate on bitcoin-otc. It just takes a little bit of patience to initially set up.
315  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do people play satoshidice? on: September 07, 2012, 12:24:58 PM
Some people try to game the system, using martingale method etc. Other than that some people just love to gamble!
316  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Update on Bruce Wagner situation on: September 07, 2012, 12:20:34 PM
It is an unfortunate situation, but a lot of people are in the same boat. My advice would be to wait and take the bitcoins in 3 days. You shouldn't lose any money out of it.

There are plenty of people on bitcoin-otc who would sell to you:

320  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: September 05, 2012, 10:45:59 AM
blockchain.info has good security and a good record for an online wallet. But I still wouldn't trust them to store anything significant. As the old saying goes, if you want something done right - do it yourself.
