261  Other / Meta / Re: The Bitcoin Forum should have Ads on: August 02, 2012, 01:38:00 PM
Lol, I feel a bit stupid. I even turned off my ad block and looked for ads before posting, but I was looking for banners or the like. I do think there is a lot more value to be gathered here than the current ads though. They're kind of subtle, which goes against the purpose of ads.  Smiley

But considering this thread was started on false premisses there probably isn't that much to discuss here.

The reason I don't use Ad Block on here is because the ads are unobtrusive.  The minute the site goes to banner ads or similar, I suspect that many users will block them - to the detriment of the advertisers.

Exactly. If annoying ads ever appear on this forum, I'll just remove it from my Ad Block exclusion list.
262  Economy / Marketplace / Re: CoinURL: shorten links and earn Bitcoins on: August 01, 2012, 10:00:45 PM
It is browser-wide option, not concrete service's. The user just says to anyone that he don't want to be tracked.

Not all browsers support that option, and if I recall correctly such things first appeared as browser plugins. And yes, it's the client that specifies, by sending some sort of flag to the server, that it doesn't want to be tracked. I don't know if there's some sort of official standard for it. It's up to the server to respect the flag or not, but I think it's more polite to respect it whenever possible, so it's great you're adding support for it Smiley

Some more notes: links which have too many "do not track" clicks can be marked as suspicious, and advertisers can choose not to show their ad to people who don't want to be tracked (even because no-tracking may not comply with the privacy police of their website or ad page).
263  Economy / Marketplace / Re: CoinURL: shorten links and earn Bitcoins on: August 01, 2012, 06:50:05 PM
What if an user that clicks on a CoinURL short link is not comfortable with his information being available to the link publisher? Do you comply with any do-not-track standards (i.e. the browser plugins that indicate websites user prefers not to be tracked)?
264  Other / Meta / Re: Board is searchable with Google & Co. on: July 30, 2012, 09:09:16 PM
When you release an address into public, I don't think anything stops people from sharing that address to people not registered in the forum and performing any search on it. From that to Google indexing the addresses, I don't think that's a big step. If you really need anonymity, just do as it's said: one address per transaction, and if you really need your coins not to be tainted, use a mixing service.
265  Economy / Goods / Re: CoinURL voucher codes 15% discount on: July 30, 2012, 09:03:45 PM
I won't use this feature for now, since I don't know of anyone who doesn't use Bitcoin and that has something to advertise, but I must say it is a good idea and I wonder why other advertising services haven't implemented something similar yet (at least to my knowledge).
266  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: URL service w/ thumbnail generation on: July 30, 2012, 12:44:02 PM
Thanks! I have replied, I'll certainly not forget to mention your help on my website and at the partners list on http://i.tny.im .
267  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: URL service w/ thumbnail generation on: July 29, 2012, 01:14:53 PM
Would you be interested in working with my URL shortener tny.im? The URL Preview page (see an example: http://tny.im/3A~ ) shows a thumbnail that is currently powered by thumbalizr, but I don't like it very much (too many "pictures queued"). I'm looking for a better thumbnail solution, and I'd like to know if you are interested in helping.
Credit would be given on the preview page and on the About page, and I could offer advetising space for anything SFW.
268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinEXpress is a scammer on: July 28, 2012, 11:01:58 PM
Well, with so many threads about "BCX: who s/he is, what she does/did, should s/he be banned, is s/he a scammer?", we not only could have a Litecoin sub-forum inside Alt currencies, as well as a sub-sub-forum inside that one for everything BCX and all that happened last week around it.  Wink

This whole forum indeed looks like a giant Trashcan section, and with events/discussions like the recent ones confirming it even more, no doubt why I used Bitcoin for almost a year before registering here... a decision I'll regret later. I admit though, this isn't the best place to post my complaints and rambling.
269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinEXpress is a scammer on: July 28, 2012, 10:33:57 PM
Do we really need these many threads to discuss "the BCX subject"? IMHO we're spamming the forum with this subject...
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BBQCoin is dead, cool! on: July 26, 2012, 10:59:29 PM
Why people (including, of course, its creator - or so it seems) even attempted to trade this coin is behind me. I have always seen it as a joke/playground to learn how a blockchain works, but it seems people gave it too much attention.
271  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] skude.se/BTC - an easier way to request your daily free coins on: July 25, 2012, 01:43:19 PM
To me at least, MyCryptCoin didn't pay anything for a long time before it broke. There are also small errors ("you address") reported in their thread which never got fixed. It's an abandoned site, I think.
272  Other / Off-topic / Re: Received a strange phonecall today.... on: July 24, 2012, 10:20:21 PM
"Great," one can think, "at least I'm famous!"  Cheesy
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ozcoin Litecoin Pool proportional payouts port80 mining available on: July 24, 2012, 05:56:57 PM
Of course it is! And in fact, I just did some math and realized that the difficulty to submit a share is higher, but as because of this there are also less shares submitted per round, each user ends up earning the same as before, at least in the long term. The only difference is that one gets less "yay!!!" on the miner output.
274  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Advertising on Twitter - CPM less than .001btc - FeedZeBirds.com on: July 24, 2012, 04:27:45 PM
I must be acting blind/stupid, but I can't find how to set up a campaign on that website...
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ozcoin Litecoin Pool proportional payouts port80 mining available on: July 24, 2012, 04:15:44 PM
^ I guess that explains why I can't make any money anymore at the lc.ozcoin pool. OK, I'll just give up and admit mining Litecoin with my CPUs is not profitable. Smiley
276  Economy / Gambling / Re: Does satoshidice.com own satoshidice.net? Or have I just been scammed? on: July 24, 2012, 01:59:19 PM
Then either the ad was on an advertising network, or stick to the page you were visiting.
Assuming it was posted on some advertising network (and the publisher of the page you were visiting is not affiliated with the ad in any way). I'd say it is more likely to be on some of the few active advertising networks accepting Bitcoin.
I searched...
Anonymous Ads: There is no SatoshiDice ad there other than one that points to their official .com domain. So no scam here.
BitcoinAdvertisers/BitcoinAdvertising: There's an image ad for SatoshiDice and, after clicking it on a website, I see that it also redirects to satoshidice.com
Operation Fabulous: It's hard for me to check which ads are being shown, and the advertiser chooses in which websites to advertise making it even harder.
CoinURL: I couldn't find a SatoshiDice ad there...
Dailybitcoins (they have their own advertisements system): It's hard to search for ads but from what I could see, there's nothing SatoshiDice-related there.
CoinAd: No SatoshiDice ad that I could see.
(if anyone knows of more places where people can advertise that the OP may have visited, please post)
BitVisitor: no SatoshiDice ad as of now.

Either I was (un)lucky enough not to see the scam ad on any of these websites, or it may have been removed already, or it is on any other advertising network, or it may be in no network and be just posted to some page. There are many possibilities but if nobody searches we'll never be able to find exactly which ad/website it was that the OP clicked.

Firefox portable doesn't log history? I believe it does, except in incognito mode (or whatever it is called in FF).

I guess I'll need to cross-compile minerd myself then...
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BBQCoin, the coin you want to eat. on: July 23, 2012, 07:03:14 PM
Yeah, specially when it's not meant for trading and it's just for fun... the world needs a currency that is just for fun Cheesy
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BBQCoin, the coin you want to eat. on: July 23, 2012, 05:19:41 PM
I think the default port is 59332. I have this a try just to see how it would be to build a *coin client from the source - turns out it was easy. Also, I can't seem to mine any blocks with my CPU using either bbqcoind (in generate coins mode) or minerd (pointing to bbqcoind in server mode), which is strange, because the difficulty is so low...
280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AndLTC Miner! (Android LTC Miner)| PlayStore | Updated v0.51 07/22/12 on: July 23, 2012, 05:15:40 PM
Would you mind posting here a direct download link for the minerd executable?
a) Not everyone can install from the Play Store
b) Not everyone has an Android device running 2.3 or higher, required just to download minerd (and setting up an emulator is a PITA for such a simple thing)
