-snip-

Does backing up your wallet.dat onto a USB key do anything if the original wallet.dat on your desktop is compromised?

If by compromised you mean stolen then no it wont do you any good from what i understand

I found out about it when looking for a way to have some extra income from ads that weren't an annoyance(As we all hate those ads) and fitted in with my little small unknown forum its theme and came across anonymousads and saw that they worked only with bitcoins so started to look into what bitcoin actually was as their way of showing ads was the way i wanted the ads on my forum to be and in the end i kinda got hooked on the whole idea of using bitcoins for things

For some reason i just dont seem to be getting any shares and yes with only 50ish mhash to spare to it im not talking about in a few minutes but the other day i let my miner run for 8 hours(while i was asleep) with the correct settings and it still just didnt get anything what so ever and even after rechecking the the userid and port and all that several times it just doesn't get anything what so ever after a long time so im just wondering if its something on my end that im doing wrong or?

Even my g/f's laptop with a Geforce 660M was getting shares, and that was only at 25MH/s or so. For sure check your setup.

its just even when i check the site itself tho it doesnt say that im doing anything and on the miner it seems to be correct thats why im wondering if i did do something wrong even tho it should be working

1 good thing that comes out of a topic like this.
You learn how stubborn some people can really be when it comes to trying to get free btc
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What kind of tools can I produce for the bitcoin community? on: August 06, 2012, 12:46:55 PM
A tool to split your wallet in two so that each half can be backed up to different cloud servers but neither half can be used to spend your coins...
you can compress and split with rar files
just tried
no unrar without both halves Smiley

Would you bet BTC500 it's secure? BTC100,000?
If you're really offering a bet, I'd be very willing to take it. It's a very simple, but functional solution. Smiley

I'm not offering a bet...I'm asking would you run this process on your wallet worth up to a million bucks and send someone 1/2 of the RAR file set? I don't know the details of RAR well enough other than the program doesn't do anything unless you have the whole set.

From what i gather is that without the other rar file the first one is just random data that will cut off somewhere and considering the wallet is such a small file the file itself will be unreadable

This is very sad.

It's sadder than you know.
Was it really that sad?

I think client wise a simple balloon popup tutorial on first time startup would take the confusion away for those who have trouble getting the hang of how the clients work(i think this would also make some people rather use 1 of the clients then a website for their wallet)

Something i was wondering about why it was not in any of the clients(that i checked) was the ability to check the exchange prizes based on what exchange you want to get the info from eg mtgox or something it would make it easier to see how much you already have also if you where to convert it over into actual cash.
Just something that would save people time from having to go to an exchange to check how much their bitcoins are worth.

Or even a step further would be to be able to use direct an client towards mtgox then give it your api key and trade directly out of your client that would solve the having to use 2 places to trade at.

Sounds like two project proposals to me:

Farmers Market Campaign

&

Bitcoin Global Village Construction Sets

How about both? If you can buy equipment with bitcoin it would be a hell lot easier to accept it. The problem however is without some sort of lobbying people will be far too exposed to government thugs.

Hence why you would get some people who are trusted in the community to be payed in bitcoins to do all the lobbying for us as well Smiley
