681  Economy / Economics / Re: Bristol to launch their own currency in September on: August 21, 2012, 12:47:34 PM
I hate to spoil your joy over this, but this Bristol currency isn't really a currency. As far as I know, it's fixed to the british pound in 1:1, thus it is merely GBP in another form. The reason why they started this project is that once you exchange your money to the Bristol thing you usually spend it there. If you just had GBP you would likely spend it somewhere else. So it helps the local economy. From our point of view this turistic attraction is irrelevant.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I got my information from newspapers and it may be wrong.

683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Distributed bank of bitcoin. on: August 21, 2012, 12:28:55 PM
To sum it up,

1) you've been ''enjoying this whole boom and bust' yet you're deeply concerned about 'sharp swings caused by major trades and market manipulation'
2) in the beggining you wanted to solve this problem by a central bank that isn't central
3) and now you want the free market with regulations

Maybe you're not a man of greed but you're most certainly a man of contradictions.

...or maybe it's just my empty stomach that conceals my clear thinking. Now I'm going to get a late lunch.
684  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Retro Bitcoin on: August 21, 2012, 12:05:31 PM
It's such a kawaii and 1337 design. Why isn't it the default?

Could you explain? I will be honest I really dont understand, We are not native speakers in english, so sometimes it is hard to understand.

Best regards
-Bitcurex.com-
Kawaii is japanese (with english transcription) for cute. 1337 is 'leet' or elite in leetspeak.
Basicaly Fluttershy said that (s)he likes the design.

I understand that you're confused. Many native speakers would not understand that gibberish either.

Fluctuations are natural. Even more so when the market is THIS tiny (when compared to ..mature markets). As the market grows in volume, it will also grow in stability and become less volatile. This is free market and that's why we use bitcoins in the first place. I know you're probably speculating on its price and now you're upset because of the recent crash, but hey you can't blame the system. We can only blame people on the market.

Furthermore, who would be the one to decide what the right price is? How would the banker determine, what bitcoin is truly worth and what price should be 'defended' by his intervention? 9 dollars? 20 eur? 13 dolars? Why 15 dollars? Why not 12 or 14? I tell you what. I trust the most volatile free market more than I trust the most intelligent banker.

Once again, the price didn't crash because the system is wrong. The price crashed because people who use bitcoins are idiots. Do you want to maintain healthy progress of bitcoin? Be resposible, use your brains, teach people, fight scammers, don't panick when the price falls... No institution can save your ass if you're too stupid (i don't mean you personally, i speak in general), the world can improve only if we improve. We must be better, then the world will be better. There is no other way.

Also:
When USD value becomes ZERO, then what is the value of BTC then?
BTC's value isn't directly dependant on USD's value. Your question doesn't make much sense.
686  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Retro Bitcoin on: August 21, 2012, 12:12:30 AM
Don't really care about graphics, I'm just curious about Bitcurex as a whole.
How active is it? Seems like the EUR market is almost dead (not more than 10 active traders) but the PLN market gets a (relatively) lot logins.
How many bitcoins is traded there per day? I looked at statistics, but only saw transaction count which doesn't tell me much (100 transaction of 0.2 bitcoins is not much, you get the picture).

Thanks for answers.

The anatomy of a ponzi scheme:

week1 - 1 person joins 0 receives dividend
week2 - 10 person joins 1 receives dividend
week3 - 100 person joins 11 receives dividend
week4 - 500 person joins 111 receives dividend
week5 - 1000 person joins 611 receives dividend
week6 - 1611 persons get screwed, the first 1/3 get less screwed since they receive some dividend - 2/3 dont receive much of a dividend and make a huge loss

This scheme can also be seen in the world economy, in the stock market, in the housing market in a smaller extent.
eh no. a ponzi scheme isn't THIS linear. also markets have nothing to do with ponzi schemes. buying high and then selling low in a panic attack is a whole different story.

Is this Miss Bitcoin Savings & Trust?

I'd definitely 'invest' in her.
695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If I were to run a Bitcoin scam... on: August 20, 2012, 07:20:39 PM
I presume the price will crash when pirate pays out...all those coins rushing back to folks who could sell them...
>implying pirate will ever pay out
imho pirate is already selling his assets and that's the main reason behind the price crash (beside all the people jumping on the bandwagon, going apeshit insane and selling their btcs under value). There is no market manipulation, no magical business model, no secret mumbo jumbo. Just pure ol' Ponzi scheme pulled off in the classic way, although with extraordinary effort.

Also, those who still believe hope pirate is legit should cut their nutsacks off so they won't be able to reproduce. Chances are their kids would be as stupid as their moronic parents. And before someone asks : yes, I'm mad.
696  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reason for current Bitcoin crash on: August 20, 2012, 08:21:36 AM
I'm kind of hoping Bitcoins go back to around 5 or lower, so I can buy back in.
Sell everything till it goes down to 3 USD/BITCOIN

This will not happen. If you want to buy, now it's the right time do that. The price is recovering, so I advise you to move your asses and go bullish.

none of this really matters.  will BTC reach $15 ever again?  yes.   will people be scammed again?  yes?   will the market crash again?  yes.  its all trivial, but BTC always will recover somehow.
Words of wisdom, dear sir. Words of wisdom.

Your stupidity harms the community. It is people like you who made the price fall. I hope you've learnt your lesson.
699  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reason for current Bitcoin crash on: August 19, 2012, 10:18:51 PM
pirate@40 plan seems not a ponzi but a very succesful way to influence the btc exchange rate by taking the coin out of the exchanges and sitting on them. the price will return to where it was before pirate@40 started to take large quantities of coins out of the market. as the coins are put back into the market and back on to exchanges price will return to where it was when BCST started.
wrong. less bitcoins mean higher price. thus, if he took large quantities out of the market (as you claim), the price would go higher. if he gave them back, the price would fall.
700  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reason for current Bitcoin crash on: August 19, 2012, 10:03:05 PM
Yeah, a crash of this magnitude set off because people fell into a ponzi scheme is not good press for bitcoin.  Sad
It's not bitcoin's fault. Things like this happen all the time with fiat currencies. People just have to learn basic economics. Some of the them the hard way. Everything will be alright, once the market wakes up from the shock. That's all.
