wollte euch mein Ergebnis nicht vorenthalten (bin Linux Noob):

12.04.1 LTS - alles Bestens mit CGMiner und Catalyst Treibern!

Beim neuen CGminer 2.7.5 + aktuellsten Catalyst Treibern sind KEINE zusätzlichen SDK Pakete nötig!

Kleine Anleitung von mir:

12.04.1 LTS drauf
Updates machen
Grakatreiber installieren (erscheint ein Symbol)
CGMiner herunterladen + entpacken
Readme durchlesen ;-)
Synaptic Pakeverwaltung als zusätzliche Software installieren
nun mit der Paketverwaltung die fehlenden Pakete (laut Readme!) installieren

Keine weiteren SDK oder ADLs!

Jetzt einfach mit üblicher aticonfig etc fortfahren

Kein Desktopbug wie bei Mint - alles einwandfrei!

Auch Ubuntu 12.03.1 zieht bei mir- ähnlich wie Linux Mint- weniger Strom bei höherer Leistung + Stabilität als bei Windows!

hmmmm ich werds jetzt mal mit Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS versuchen.

Weiß nicht ob ich bei Mint was falsch gemacht habe, aber wenn man sich nicht penibel an die Reihenfolge hält, lassen sich manche Pakete nicht mehr herunterladen (nur bei der 64bit version - bei 32 läuft sogar der catalyst treiber einwandfrei - nur leider läuft CGminer nicht auf 32bit mint) und wie gesagt nach aticonfig gingen zwar alle drei karten, jedoch hatte ich einen bug im "dekstop" (Wenn man nur mined ja nicht weiter schlimm)

BAMT sieht an sich echt toll aus, aber es ist typisch für mein Board - laut google - dass es einfach nicht geht :-(

Hab mir überlegt ob es möglich wäre das BAMT Image vielleicht irgendwie auf eine Festplatte zu schieben anstatt auf den USB Stick - u.U. läuft das.

Dank meines Gigabyte Mainboards läuft bei mir BAMT nicht.... (mag keine USB Sticks mit mehreren Partitionen...)

Alles was ich auf der .org Seite drüber gelesen habe klingt göttlich!

Soweit ich das verstanden habe, ist der USB stick die "Festplatte"? Bzw es wird nicht auf Festplatte geschrieben?

Erinner mich irgendwo gelesen zu haben, dass USB sticks als dauerhaftes OS Medium nicht taugen, weil die schnell den Geist aufgeben...

Oder wie ist das?

I spent a whole day on this thing, but without trying the voltage... had no more nerves for reinstall again and again (after find the max for every card...)

So I again, run it with old original bios - no more 7970...

Hallo zusammen,

da ich erst mit Windows gemined habe aber überhaupt nicht zufrieden war (war nicht sonderlich stabil) habe ich es danach mit Linux Mint probiert, was auch - halbwegs - klappte.

Jedoch läuft das ganze - catalyst treiber (sdk, Adl etc) + cgminer auch nur "so lala". Sobald man bei Linux Mint 64bit alle Grafikkarten mit aticonfig aktiviert- hat man auf einem Bildschirm alles dreimal in der "Taskleiste" etc...

weiters muss bei der Installation von linux mint (Updates, Catalyst, SDK + zusätzliche Pakete für CGMiner) an eine gewisse Reihenfolge halten, weil sich sonst manche Pakete nicht mehr installieren lassen, oder CGminer die Karten nicht richtig erkennt...

Vorteil bei Linux war jedoch: Karten konnten alle auf maximale Taktraten eingestellt werden ohne dass der Computer abgeschmiert ist.

Obendrein ist der Energieverbraucht bei Windows bei mir jedesmal 50 Watt höher, bei ~ 100 mhash weniger als bei Linux.

D.h. Linux = 100mhash mehr (bei drei karten), 50 Watt weniger verbrauch

Auch ist windows regelmässig abgeschmiert bzw eine der Karten- was bei linux NIE passiert ist.


Welches Linux (64bit) habt ihr im Einsatz - vor allem mit CGMiner?

Was hat sich als lauffähig und stabil herausgestellt?

Wäre für jeden Tip äusserst dankbar, ich möchte keine 50 watt bei weniger Hashrate verschenken...

... denn ich nutze grad wieder win7 :-(

since RBE doesnt work with HD7xxx series I looked for a way to flash the bios - so I could overclock a bit more.
With ATIFLASH it worked! I took a ASUS 7970 Bios online, download it and flashed it to 2 different 7950.

I use Linux Mint. Reinstalled Linux Mint + drivers - everything working. Started CGMiner - everything working... but!!! but...:

More heat while Idle (think because there is more Voltage on it)
Yes more overclocking - but also much more power use (for every 10mhash > 10 watt)
If you drive your overclocking to the point the card stops working - the whole system - even after restart - goes crazy!
I tried it twice, and everytime after reaching the limits, I had to reinstall linux!

If you are willing to play around (make bios backups first!) - and stop overclocking at about 1180 Engine Clock (test with Saphire 7950 3GB OC) - it works. Most 7950 (or all?) have dual bios- so you don't even need to flash back, just switch the switch to the other position.

So to me: Makes no sense because of power costs, I've a system running in total 580w at about  ~1360-1380mh.

before flashing I have a max (7950) of about 580mh, after flashing 615mh - and for every mh there is at least 1w of power use!

I think this could be because of more basic voltage on it after flashing. But I didn't want to play around with voltage - so I don't know.

Intensity 12 is the point where it gets "hot"... 13or14 is way too much, like you said +50w power more then used with 12, 11 is solid, 12 is possible.. 13 not (worth it)

I use the latest version 2.7.5 - still using the bitminter pool (1%fee for more security..) - don't know if I should change... I'm happy atm that everything works fine.

The only thing I'm still on is the "Intensity" - CGMiner instructions says, that going above 9 is showing higher hashrates, but makes no sence and those hashrates could not be true in the end... my setup runs at 9/each card, but 7950 have +8mh/each if I go up to 11-12... still wonder if it makes sense and how I can check what really goes on. Ive almost no rejects - no matter if 9 or 12. So perhaps better go with 12.
 
Atm I have ~  1394 (Bitminter live statistic) - and could add additional 16mh so I would have 1410... not bad for 580w I think ( minus lets say 80watt CPU+System = 500w).

Next thing I'm going to do is flash my GPUs ATI Bios to overclock some more - the temps are still nice at about 72 celsius/1100mhz core (7950)
On the other hand I could lower the memory, which is connected to the core with 7950 - so no lower than 900 possible at 1100mhz.

It's nice to see the power/w drop which every lower memory step :-).

I hope I don't do anything wrong while flashing bios...

ATM you can not download WINE - some pakets are not available - no connection... perhaps its good to give me time think about doing it or don't

I'm using CGminer with linux mint 13 now and everything works fine. After aticonfig every card was supported! (But the "Desktop" has some strange behaviour- but no matter - only for mining no problem (desktop shows everything 3 times where tasks are located)

Win 7 + Bitminter Software = lower hashrates, no chance to use max. clock rates - system crashes, high power consumption

Linux (mint) + CGminer = higher hashrates + max clock rates without system crash! + lower power cunsumption in total

Lets say it like this,

simple amd 2x setup - 3ghz, 2gb ram, 2x7950, 1x5770

Power consumption windows (lower rates, system stable) : 640w  - power consumption high rates (unstable/crash) : >700w

Power consumption Linux - high rates system stable: 580-590w ;-)

Hashrate total ~ 1370 (optimized up to 1420)

(max. with windows stable: 1200 with higher wattage!)

but wait... what is ... the efficiency..... (never seen before with bitminter.. never used CGminer).... is 87% not good? ;-)
(what could be the problem? the mixed cards?)

... where can I overclock my cards in linux? catalyst seems not to be the best option for that...

till now I used Win 7 for mining with Bitminter - but I'm not happy with the Win 7 and Bitminter Software as I think Win + the Java app etc - alltogether - use too much power and I would like to start mining with linux. On my notebook I have Linux Mint 13 - which I like a lot.

I tried Linux on my mining rig but the first big problem is, that I can't use all three GPUs (2x7950, 1x5770). If I use catalyst driver+control center I can see that there are 2 more cards - but there is no description on them and no option to activate them. Dummy Plugs are not working/solving the problem.

My second problem is, that I don't know (from the point I can use all three cards already) how I can setup Diablo Miner or Phoenix for my multiple setup.
I searched/googled for hours but I was not able to find an easy instruction on how to setup Diablo or Phoenix for more then one card. Found only instructions for one card.
