Hi there, some years ago I stayed with a family in Tamale, Ghana. Recently I've found out they have a hard time paying the tuition fees for the children in the family. My intention is to support them a bit financially by paying part of the school fees. Of course I want to send them the money in bitcoins directly. Some hurdles: - There are no buyers and sellers on localbitcoin.
- There are no startups in the region accepting bitcoins.
- The family does not have a smart phone or internet, there is an internet cafe nearby which they use.
How should I proceed? I would like to use this opportunity to help them, while using the strengths of Bitcoin. Any suggestions are highly appreciated! |

Goedenavond, de ATM is geplaatst door Bitmymoney (mijn bedrijf) we hebben zo'n 20 betalingen gehad de afgelopen maand met bedragen tussen 5 en 50 euro. Er komt deze week een nette handleiding bij, zodat het nog eenvoudiger wordt.
We houden je op de hoogte.
Vraag ook vooral bij De Waag om te betalen met bitcoins, zodat ze weten dat er vraag naar is :-)

In python you could specify the OP_RETURN value as follows: from binascii import unhexlify

script = unhexlify(hexed)
Set the value of the output to 0.0, replace the transaction script with the binary part above. Do not forget to add enough fee and send the remainder to your change address. |

There is something frustrating about this OP_RETURN discussion as to what the blockchain is supposed to be used for.
High hopes in stories about the blockchain being the infinite third party for proof of existence. Then when people think of ways to leverage that power, they get told not to spam the blockchain, because that's not what it's supposed to be used for.
The same with micro payments. When you get to using it, the fee turns out to be larger than the payment amount (prior to v0.9).
I understand this from a technical view point, but as a Bitcoin user, I find it discouraging.
With v0.9 I believe the OP_RETURN implementation provides a balanced solution: prunable outputs, infinite storage for those who want to build on top of it.
Now let's get us novices up and running with examples on how to create transactions with valid OP_RETURN values. Thank you.

Op zondag 30 maart om 16.00 uur is er een Bitcoin meetup voor beginners in Studio Dudok in Den Haag. Tijdens deze door Bitmymoney.com georganiseerde meetup zijn er drie sprekers die de volgende onderwerpen bespreken: “Wat is Bitcoin?”, “Bitcoin in het nieuws” en “Eenvoudig de Blockchain met kleurpotloden en post-its”. Hi Davout, thanks for responding to all these questions. And good to hear you're back in business. While you're fixing the verification issues, please also fix the "additional documents" needed. I've already uploaded a copy of my passport and proof of residence, yet your site requests a second ID *and* a bank statement. This is not KYC/AML, this is ludicrous. For me personally, uploading ID and proof of residence is the max of what you can expect a customer to provide. Maybe a one time payment from my IBAN to verify the account name corresponds with the submitted ID. Please review your verification policy, if you expect to get a 24-hour volume above the current 31 XBT ;-) Kind regards, Robert |

Wat Bitonic schrijft, geldt ook voor ons: we verkopen geen bitcoins die we niet kunnen leveren. Extra checks gebeuren altijd binnen een uur.
Je hebt wellicht minder van ons gehoord omdat we een jonger bedrijf zijn. Bitonic is iets langer actief dan Bitmymoney.
Bitmymoney helpt, naast iDeal verkoop online, (web)winkels bij het accepteren van Bitcoin als betaalmiddel. Bijvoorbeeld De Waag in Delft en de Hackers & Makers conferentie OHM2013.

As to my knowledge, a double spend needs quite some preparation and timing. So to do it on a POS-situation, would be rather hard. You need to insert two transactions on two distant places in the network.
For a coffee or a beer, that would not be worth the trouble. For a car or watch, it might be.
I do not know about the guarantees of Bitpay, but for small amounts, it should not be an issue. If you do sell luxurious watches or cars, do double check. For these amounts waiting for 2 to even 6 confirmations would not be too much of a pain.

I have the same problem: trying to sell some BTC to cash in: trades keep status "Pending".
Opened a support ticket too, hoping for an answer.
